Passed peacefully away at Corner Brook Western Memorial Hospital in his 84th year, Ross Whalen of Flower's Cove on April 7, 2019. Born in Flower's Cove on October 30, 1934 to Henry and Chatfield Whalen. He married the love of his life, Ellen (Genge) and they were wed on November 27, 1958 and shared 60 wonderful years together. Ross and Ellen were blessed with three children, daughter: Judy Sheppard (Ed); Sons: Lorne Whalen (Wanda), Melvin Whalen (Judy); Grandchildren: Chuck Sheppard (Michelle), Chad Sheppard (Emiley), Corey Whalen (Shawna), Chelsie Astles (Andrew), Ross Whalen; Great-grandchildren: Jenna Sheppard, Kayla Sheppard, Logan Sheppard, River Sheppard, Gracie Whalen, Haley Whalen, Claire Astles; Sister: Hazel Archel. Family was the highlight of Ross's life but he also enjoyed berry picking, fishing, cutting wood and playing cards. He had several working skills, he worked with NL Hydro as a Meter Reader and a Groundsman; he also worked with Lundrigans building the roads in the St. Anthony area; he was part owner of a scallop dragger. He was a jack of all trades who instilled values of hard work and independence of his family. He was and is deeply loved and fondly mourned. Gordon was born to Francis and Bernadette Alyward on April 22, 1962 in Main Brook. The family moved to Goose Cove from Fishot Island in 1970. Gordon was a very quiet man, who enjoyed the simple things in life, like having get-togethers with family and friends. He loved his family dearly. He was very proud of his daughter, Pamela and two grand kids, Matthew and Aiden and spoke of them so often. He would light up when talking about all his brothers and sisters and mom and dad. He faced many challenges but always had a smile. He will be forever loved and sadly missed by his Father Francis; Sisters, Eileen, Denise (Wes); Brothers, Fred (Maureen), Steven (Sharon), Leonard (Mary), Wayne (Dianne), Clem, Edward (Charmaine), as well as his extra-special Aunt Jose and Uncle Dorm who held a special place in his heart. Also left with fond and loving memories are a large extended family of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. He will be missed as well by his special friend Gloria and the caring staff for the John M. Gray. Your care and compassion will never be forgotten. Passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in his 74th year, Wilfred James Noble of St. Anthony on March 27, 2019. Born in St. Anthony on September 11, 1944 to Pearce and Bertha Noble of Great Brehat; Wilfred was the first of 7 children. After finishing high school Wilf met the love of his life, Selma Bussey, at a hockey game. They were wed on December 20th, 1967 and shared 52 wonderful years together. Some time after marriage, Wilf and Selma were blessed with two beautiful daughters; Adella and Lisa. Family was the highlight of Wilf’s life but he also loved berry picking, fishing, hunting, and his dog- Pop’s Girl- Coco. Wilf fished all his life but finishing his fishing career with a 16 year stint his brother-in-law Eric in 1992. He was a jack of all trades who instilled values of hard work, selflessness, and independence of his family and friends. He was, and is, deeply loved and fondly mourned. Passed tragically away in Conche on March 16th, 2019 at the age of 57 years. Jerry was a man of many talents. He was a fisherman, woodsman, carpentry, tour guide to tourist and friend to all. He loved to talk and took the time to speak to everyone he met and always said hello. He loved music and dancing. He leaves to mourn his Mother, Ellen; brothers Garrett (Selina), Michael (Bernice), Kenneth; Sisters Christine (Matt), Frances (Gary), Elsie (Bob), Doreen (Jean-Guy), Margaret (Bill). It is with great sadness that the family of Claude Randell of Englee announce his passing at the Roddickton Health Centre on March 9, 2019 at the age of 69 years. Claude was born on April 12, 1949 in the small outport community of Williamsport, NL. In 1969, his family resettled to Englee, NL where he met and married Joyce, his wife of 48 years. Claude loved the great outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing darts and watching hockey. With loving memories, Claude is remembered by: his wife Joyce; daughter, Kathy (Barry) Randell and son, Jamie (Stephanie); 2 Grandchildren, Chad Randell and Darla (Eric) Yao; 3 Great Grandchildren, Sienna; Ethan, and Jack. 2 brothers, Joshua (Pauline) and Roger; 5 sisters, Ruby (Wilson) Randell, Selma (Robert) Randell, Pansy (Reuben) Curtis, Pearl (Wayne) Fillier, and Rita (Frank) Pittman as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. McGONIGLE RANDELL, JENNIFER TARA
October 26, 1974 – March 6, 2019
Jennifer Tara McGonigle Randell was born in St. Anthony on October 26, 1974 to John and Ruby McGonigle. She was born with health problems but never allowed those problems to prevent her from becoming the loving and caring person she was. On September 16, 1995 she married Barry Randell of Bide Arm and there they made their home. Here they raised their two sons. In spite of numerous health difficulties, Jennifer developed her special talents. She was very artistic, enjoying a variety of different craft works, her specialty being mat hooking. She embroidered quilts and with the help of her mother-in-law and aunt finished a number of projects that she had set as goals after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2018. She did not let this diagnosis defeat her, but courageously battled until the end. She left her family and friends early on March 6th. She is survived by her husband Barry, sons William and Jonathan, her parents John and Ruby McGonigle, Brothers Christopher (Laurie), and Jason (Jacqui), Nieces Bethany and Krista, and Nephew Alex. She is also mourned by her mother-in-law Margaret Randell, brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous friends. Jennifer was predeceased by her Grandparents, William and Rebecca Pilgrim, and Francis McGonigle and Marylou McGonigle-Vance, as well as one Aunt, and three Uncles. As we remember Jennifer, we remember a courageous woman who refused to be defeated by the difficulties of life and who fought bravely to conquer this dreaded disease and who loved her family passionately. Family and friends were received at the Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm from where the funeral was held on Sunday, March 10, 2019 with Pastor Howard Canning officiating.
