HUMBY, MAXWELL WILLIAM
Passed away June 16th, 2018 at the age of 84 years. Maxwell William Humby (affectionately known as Max and/or Mackie) was born on May 22nd, 1934 to Edward (Sr.) and Jessie (Adams) Humby. Max was born in St. Lunaire-Griquet, NL and moved to Roddickton, NL in the early 1950’s. There Max met and married the love of his life, Margaret Marie Denney on the 24th day of November 1955 with the wedding being officiated by Pastor Samuel G. Newman. Together they were blessed with nine (9) children, six (6) girls and three (3) boys. They were also blessed with fifteen (15) grandchildren and fifteen (15) great-grandchildren. Max was well known and respected in his community and worked for a number of years in various occupations. He was employed with Bowater’s as a wood cutter, Eli Decker’s Garage as a mechanic, E.G. Humby and Sons Oil Company, and Roddickton Town Council as a heavy equipment operator/snow clearing/water and sewer maintenance. After his retirement Max continued to work as a “JACK OF ALL TRADES” paving driveways, potholes, parking lots, etc. Max had a very outgoing personality and enjoyed life to its fullest. He was the BEST Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather that a person could ever ask for. Makie will be sadly missed but those who mourn his passing are blessed with cherished memories of him that will last a lifetime. GILLARD, FANNIE VIRTUE
passed away June 15th, 2018 at the White Bay Central Health Center at the age of 77 years. Mary was born on August 15th, 1935 at Cook’s Harbour. The daughter of Ernest and Rita Hill. On August 28th, 1951 she married George Rowbottom from Quirpon. Together they raised 11 children. She passed away on June 6th, 2018. She will be greatly missed by all. GIBBONS, JAMES
November 3, 1947 – May 20, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of the late James Gibbons announces his passing. James was born on November 3, 1947 on Current Island. In 1969 he married Gladys Bonnell, together they had two children; Jimmy and Winnie. He had five grandchildren that he adored. He had two sisters; Edith (Isaac) and Lillian (Jim) and bothers Martin (Annie) and Edmund (Paula). He was a fisherman for 30+ years and was an active member of his local fisherman’s committee. Jim was also a proud member of Loyal Orange Lodge and enjoyed Saturday night with his member friends. He will be forever missed. He leaves to mourn his wife Gladys; Children Jimmy (Carol) and Winnie (Darcy); Grandchildren Luke, William, Ben, Makenna, and Micah as well as a large circle of family and friends. James was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Myrtle; Brother Martin; and Niece Eileen. PILGRIM, GORDON SAMUEL
Gordon Samuel Pilgrim was born February 17th, 1931 to Charles and Sarah Jane Pilgrim in St. Anthony Bight. He died in St. Anthony Bight early in the morning of May 26th, 2018, his sister Mabel present with him. Gordon was a fisherman and a bachelor. He lived all his life in St. Anthony Bight. Gordon was not a traveler, but enjoyed a trip to the United States in 2004 and a trip to Belle Island despite this. For a short time, he and a cousin ran a restaurant in the Night, the “Wagon Wheel”. Gord had the reputation of being “easy going”, until this winter he loved playing darts and of course there was moose hunting, which he particularly enjoyed. Gord loved life and lived it well. Gordon leaves to mourn his sister Mabel Strain; niece Sarah Strain (Wayne); nephews David and Leland Strain (Cindy); grand-nephew Noah Strain as well as a long list of extended family and friends. Gordon is predeceased by his parents Charles and Sarah Jane Pilgrim; Brother-in-law Roy Strain; as well as two small sisters who died as infant babies. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Wayne Pilgrim was born in St. Anthony on August 9, 1950 and passed on December 30, 2017. He was married to Bernette Campbell on December 5, 1969. They had one son Brian who is married to Yvonne. Wayne and Bernette had five grandchildren: Travis, Tyson, Danielle, Chantelle and Janelle. They had three great-grandchildren Bentley, Callie and Aubree. They had a special niece Sandra (Lorne) Pilgrim. Wayne had two sisters Jean Canning and Cavell Kippen. As well, he had two sisters-in-law Pat (Clyde) Patey and Belinda (Ray) Richards. Wayne and Bernette were raised in the United Church in St. Anthony and remember most fondly the laughter and the singing. He leaves to mourn his wife Bernette (Campbell) Pilgrim; Son Brian (Yvonne); Grandchildren Travis, Tyson, Danielle, Chantelle, Janelle; Great-grandchildren Bentley, Callie, Aubree; Special Niece Sandra (Lorne) Pilgrim; Sisters Jean Canning and Cavell Kippen; Sisters-in-law Pat (Clyde) Patey, Belinda (Ray) Richards; as well as his Nephews, Nieces, extended family, and friends. DECKER, NEVA IVY
was born in Miles Cove, NL to Stephen and Rhoda (Short) Normore on September 28, 1941. She had one sister and four brothers. She met Samuel Decker while he was teaching in the area and they were married on September 29th, 1960. Neva was the proud mother of three sons: Moody, George, and Stephen. Neva and Samuel were also blessed with four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; whom they loved dearly. Neva followed her husband, Samuel, to his hometown of L’Anse aux Meadows; but they spent many years living in Ontario and Corner Brook before returning to L’Anse aux Meadows. They later moved to St. Lunaire-Griquet where they lived out the remainder of their lives together. Neva was a homemaker at heart but spent most of her working life at the Fisheries Products Plant in St. Anthony. She had a love of quilting and gifted her family with her homemade expressions of love. Neve was predeceased by her husband, Samuel, on October 20, 2017. They were committed to the faith, loved God, and regularly attended the Pentecostal Church in St. Lunaire-Griquet. She leaves to mourn her Sons, Moody (Sue-Ann), George (Yvonne), Stephen (Wanda); Grandchildren, Bobby, April, Stephanie, Vanessa; Great-grandchildren, Lucas, Leah, Skylar; Brothers, Cyril (Avis), Lloyd (Flora); Sister, Joy (Cecil), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends. Neva was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Wilfred Decker; Father, Stephen Normore; Mother, Rhoda (Short) Normore; Brothers, Eric, and Lesie.
