WHITE, FREEMAN

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Freeman White announce his sudden passing on April 2nd, 2017 at the Flowers Cove Health Center at the age of 87 years. He leaves with a lifetime of fond memories his wife of 65 years, Lorrie; Daughters Linda (Derek), Gladys (Kevin); Sons Amos, Ossie (Jackie), Terry (Pat); his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; Sisters Louisa (John), Gladys, Sarah; Brother-in-laws Archibald (Hazareth), Claude (Lillian); Sister-in-laws Mabel, Irene, Selena; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, and very special extended family and friends. Visitation was held at St. Thomas’ Church, Sandy Cove from where the funeral service was held at 2:00 pm on the 5th day of April with Rev Omar Reyes officiating. PENNEY, GLADYS EMILY

Passed away on March 29th, 2017 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 71 years. Visitation was held at the Anglican Church in Port Hope Simpson from where the funeral was held on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017 at 2:00pm with Rev. Perez officiating. Interment followed. SIMMS, OLIVE

Passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on March 25th, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Olive Simms was born on April 25, 1921 in Great Brehat to Thomas and Jane Cull.  She was one of ten children. On December 18, 1940, she married Jacob Simms of St. Anthony Bight.  It was here that they lived and raised their two children, Celeste and Wes, and where Olive would live for the next nearly 77 years.  In 1971 Jacob died, and Olive continued on.  Olive was friendly out going person who had a lovely smile and a wonderful laugh. She was a faithful member of the St. Anthony Bight United Church, as well as a loyal member of the United Church Women and a faithful contributor to the Canadian Bible Society. On Saturday, March 25th, Olive passed peacefully away in the presence of her family. She is survived by her children Celeste (John) and Wes, as well as her grandchildren Wade (Sheila) and Brenda (Eric), great grandchildren Shawna (Ryan), Erika, Tony and Jodi and great-great grandchild Eva.  She is also survived by her brother Walter and sister Florrie. She was predeceased by her husband Jacob, her parents, her son-in-law Tony Cooper as well as three brothers and four sisters. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral on March 29th, 2017 at 2:00 pm from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. BURDEN, EUGENE

Passed away into peace at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony NL, on the 23rd of March, 2017, Mr. Eugene Burden of Mary's Harbour Labrador in his 83rd year. Left to mourn with loving memories; Sisters Alma (Ron) Poole, Ida (Dennis) Dyke, Grandchildren Ryan, Darius and Reanna, Great  Grandson  Deklan and large circle of nieces, Nephews, family and friends. Eugene lived to mourn the passing  of his parents Harriett and Tom Burden, his beloved daughter Tina, His sisters Elsie Poole and Selina Brown. Visitation was Held at the funeral home in St. Anthony form 10:30 am to 12, and 7pm to 9pm on the 25th of march, after which it was continued at the St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church in Mary's Harbour from which the Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, The 28th of March 2017, with Rev. Pervez Bag Officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Mary's Harbour Anglican Cemetery. Funeral services were entrusted to Kerry M. WYATT, EFFIE JOY

Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family on March 14th, 2017, Effie Wyatt (Patey) of St. Anthony at age 74 years. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are her husband of 49 years, Joseph and her loving boys, Jeffrey (Deann), Gregory (Mario), grandson Scott (Brooke) and her precious great granddaughter Jade, born on March 4th, 2017. She looked so forward to her arrival and lived long enough to see pictures of her. Also leaving with fond memories are her six brothers, Wilbur (Loretta), Eric (Marjorie), Jerry (Doris), Dennis (Goldie), Alvin (Valerie), Larry (Robin) her only living Aunt Blanche Biles and her brother in law Charles (Joanne), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Edith Patey, mother and father in law, John and Emma Wyatt and her precious nephew Joshua Patey and niece Amanda Swinimer (Patey). Effie’s life revolved around her family, whom she loved and cherished with all of her heart. Her nightly phone calls to her boys and brothers, where she always wanted to know in detail how everyone was doing will surely be missed. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral service took place on Saturday, March 18th, 2017 at 2:00 pm from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony with Rev. Katie Flynn officiating. Interment followed. 
 

ELLSWORTH, AUDREY ALICE

Passed away at her private residence in Englee on March 13th, 2017 at the age of 76 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her brothers Roland, Ralph (Shirley), and Ronald (Wavey); Sisters Lillian Pilgrim and Drucella Parsons as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by parents Thomas and Jessie Ellsworth. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held Friday, March 17th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor George Burton officiating. Interment followed. SMITH, GEORGE EDWARD

Passed away in St. Johns on the 8th of March 2017 at the age of 83 years. He leaves to mourn his Children Boyce (Kelly), Delphie (Craig), Cicley (Jeff), Maitland (Guy), Joy (Dan), as well as his grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, the Woodward family (Jenny, Cindy, Rod & Sandra), friends, and family. He was predeceased by Eliza Smith and Margaret Woodward. Visitation took place at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church on Monday, March 13th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Katie Flynn officiating. MCCARTHY, JOHN JOSEPH

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of John Joseph McCarthy at Curtis Memorial Hospital on March 2nd, 2017 in his 53rd year. John was born to Leonard and Laura McCarthy in St. Juliens, NL on June 2ns, 1963. The family moved to Goose Cove, where John attended St. Mary’s School, and then on to Harriott Curtis Collegiate in St. Anthony where he graduated in 1981. After graduation he fished with his dad and brothers. John fell in love with and married the love of his life, Eileen Alyward. They had two beautiful children, whom he cherished, Jordan and Christine. Just over a year ago they were blessed with their first granddaughter, Mya, whom he adored. He also had a lot of love for his two little furbabies, Pepsy and Rebel. In 2007 John enrolled in a Heavy Equipment Operator Course in Badger and from there was employed with CEDA International in Alberta, where he worked for the past 9 years and met some great friends. John’s greatest passion besides family, was for motorcycles. Over the years, with his wife by his side, had many motorcycle adventures. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Soulmate Eileen, Son Jordan (Chrisoula), Daughter (Christine), and Granddaughter Mya; Sisters Anne (Kevin), Alice (Stephen); Brothers Jerome (Agnes), Ron (Lynn); Mother-in-law (Bernadette) and Father-in-law (Francis) as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents. The cremation memorial service took place in Goose Cove on March 9th, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Vitus officiating. GILLINGHAM, LENORA ANNIE

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lenora (Annie) Gillingham announce her passing on Thursday, March 2nd 2017 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, NL., she is 81 years old. Annie leaves to mourn her son Michael Gillingham(Caroline), Granddaughter Cicely Ann Gillingham and Katherine(Chris)Gill, Great Grandchildren Matthew (Kennedy) and Monique Gillingham, Great Great Grandchild Willow all of Labrador City, NL, Her sister Marie Anderson(Willie); Irishtown,NL; special Nephew Reg Locke(Pauline Gilley) Corner Brook, NL; special friends Bob and Maryann Dredge, Blue Cove, NL; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, friends and the families of Reginald Rumbolt and John Pittman. Annie was predeceased by her Baby Son James, Parents Chelsey and Mary Jane Locke, Brothers Jim(Blanche) and Willis(Rebecca)and very special friends in life Reginald Rumbolt and John Pittman. Visitation was held at The church of Advent in Plum Point from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 8th day of March 2017 with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating.
