CAMPBELL, ALVIN

July 1, 1932 - October 4, 2023

It is with heavy hearts, that the Campbell family announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend. Alvin Warren Campbell, age 91, of Wild Bight, formerly of Cape Norman, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital.

Alvin was born on Cape Norman to the late Gertie (Bradbury) and Jacob Campbell.

Alvin worked 35+ years as a Lighthouse Keeper on Cape Norman where him and his wife raised their four boys.

Before trucks and cars, he would provide transportation to the hospital by snowmobile for anyone in need. He also took on the difficult task to recruit teachers to the area and would provide them housing.

He was an entrepreneur providing many services to surrounding communities such as a Yamaha and Dodge dealership, Campbell’s Esso Auto Body Shop and Gas Station and Harbour View Lounge and Take-out that many would argue had the best chicken around.

In his younger days, he enjoyed boat building, carpentry, snowmobile rides to the sawmill, helping out at the garage and bartending where he met lots of fishermen from around the province.

He loved the company of his children and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to mourn are his sons Warren (Faye) Campbell, Randy (Emily) Campbell, Everett (Juanita) Campbell and Craig (Carolyn) Campbell; grandchildren, Tammy (Brad) Hedderson, Shannon (Carey) Pittman, Sonya (Donny) Cull, Jeremy (Tiffiny) Campbell, Monica (Cameron) Campbell, Jessica (Grant) Gaudet; great-grandchildren, Devon, Dana, Tyler, Riley H., Riley P., Annika, Mila, Remi, Reid and Wyatt; brother Lyle; sisters Marjorie and Elsie, sister-in-laws Virginia (Fred) Bursey, Grace Laing and Tamsey Laing.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Jessie; parents Gertie and Jacob Campbell, his mother and father-in-law Jane and Norman Laing; brothers Malcolm, Joseph, Seymour and Everett; brother-in-laws Walter, Curling, Stewart, Lloyd, Stanley; sister-in-law’s Elizabeth, Martha and Evelyn.

Visitation will be open to the public on Friday, October 6th, 2023 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, followed by a family service at 8:30pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 7th at 2pm from the funeral home with Rev. Nath Larkin officiating. A graveside service will follow at Cape Norman graveyard.

CAMPBELL, BESSIE CAROLINE (nee Decker)

April 11, 1940 - March 5, 2022

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Bessie Campbell (nee: Decker) announce her peaceful passing on Saturday, March 5th, 2022 at the age of 81 years. Bessie was born in Cook’s Harbour, NL on April 11th, 1940 to proud parents Garland and Dorcas (nee: Downer) Decker where she was lovingly raised with her siblings. On February 3rd, 1959, she married the love of her life, Seymour Campbell and together they raised 7 children.

Bessie will be remembered fondly as a hardworking devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always welcomed family and friends into her home with open arms whether for a cup of tea, a meal, a chat, a friendly game of cards, a song or a dance. Her beautiful smile will live on in the hearts of many.

Left to mourn with cherished memories are her husband - Seymour, daughters - Elaine (Rick), Karen (Johnny), Bernette (Kayward), Maxine (Dave), Betty (Ken), Deanne (Jeremy), son - Jamie and ex son-in-law Brian. Grandchildren: Justin, Craig, Ashley, Tiffany, Marty, Nadina, Kaylauna, Melissa, Kelly, Mark, Kane, Paige, Tessa, Damien, and Olivia. Great Grandchildren: Siera, Braden, Breah, Kylen, Kira, and Karley as well as a large circle of extended family and close friends.

Greeting her at the gates of heaven are her parents: Garland and Dorcas; siblings Reginald Decker, Maxwell Decker, Margaret Pynn, Myrtle Elliott, Dorothy Anderson, Douglas Decker, Harold Decker, baby Lloyd, Maxine Sandell and Gary Decker and her son-in-laws: Roy Kelloway and Martin Larkin.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to everyone who has reached out in any and all ways. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Visitation to take place from the Anglican Church in Cooks Harbour on Friday, March 11, 2022 from 2-9 pm with the funeral service taking place on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11:00 am with Rev. CAMPBELL, MILDRED ELIZA

Born April 4, 1933 at Rexon Cove, NL, passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony NL on July 4th, 2017 at the age of 84 years. Mildred was a generous, loving, person and a friend to all she met. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking, ice fishing, and berry picking. She loved playing bingo and cards. Her family meant everything to her. Mildred touched many lives on her own life’s journey and the influence she made on those left behind will ensure she is never forgotten. Left with loving memories are her sons; Harrison (Sandra), Cyril (Barbara), Thomas (Vivian); Daughters Bernice, Dorothy (Howard), Mary, Dorcas (Sidney), Bella (Clarence); Daughter-in-law Elsie; Sister Bella (Henry); Brothers Graham (Patricia), Bill (Nellie), Harold (Velma), Paul (Martha), Carl (Janet); Sister-in-law Daisy and Florence, 21 Grandchildren, and 26 Great Grandchildren. She is predeceased by her Husband Stanley Campbell Sr.; Son Stanley Campbell Jr; Grandchildren Tanya Campbell, Damien Burden; Great Grandchildren Dylan Campbell, Hunter Butt; Parents Charlie and Dorcas Larkham; Siblings Cyril, Clifford (Charlotte), Hayward, and Bernice. Visitation took place at the Anglican Church in Pinsent’s Arm from where the funeral took place on July 8th, 2017 with Rev. Alice Moores and Pastor Slade officiating.
