BUCHANAN, CATHERINE (KATIE) FRANCES

September 22, 1995 - April 20, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Catherine (Katie) Frances Buchanan announce her passing at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on April 20, 2023. She was in her 27th year.

Katie was born to Louise Reid and Andrew Patey on September 22, 1995. She came into this world early weighing only 4lb 7oz but she was a fighter from the beginning. Her brother often remarked that her red hair was her warning label and that anyone who got in her way should have known better.

Sometimes you know you’ve met someone special and that’s how most people felt when meeting our Katie. She was non-verbal but somehow you knew she had an awesome sense of humor and had the greatest laugh ever.

Katie loved music and dancing; she adored beef jerky and swimming. She loved to people-watch but hated it when people would touch her hair. She was curious by nature and loved to go for drives to see the sites.

In later years, she had been living independently with a wonderful team of homecare workers that took care of her.

Leaving to mourn with loving memories: Mother Louise; Stepfather Rick; Father Andrew Patey (Heidi); Siblings: Liam (Emma Reardon); Olivia; Nikki; Danielle (Liam Bradley) and Holden (Dharma Wilkinson); Nephews: Owen Bradley and Gerald Reid; Grandparents William (Buck) Buchanan; Frances Patey; Jean and Levi Reid; Uncles Steve Patey (Lyn), Tracy Reid (Cathy); Aunts Martha Newell (Paul Larkham), Rhoda Rose (Paul), Iris White (Sam), Paula Krawiec (Andy), Dawn Walsh (Mike) and Tammy Patey (Chris); Godmother Nadine Ward; Special Aunt and Uncle: Debbie and Chris Humby; and Caregivers Tracey Burden; Bernice Byrne and Chrissy Whalen.

She was pre-deceased by her grandmother and namesake Catherine (Kit) Buchanan; Grandfather Bruce Patey;  Uncles Barry Newell and Bruce Norman; and cousin Matthew Reid.

Visitation will take place from St. Anthony United Church on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday April 23 from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will take place on Monday April 24th at 2:00 PM from St. Anthony United Church, Rev Nath Larkin officiating.
