APPLIN, ELIZABETH JANE (Nee Woodward)

October 18, 1940 - June 24, 2022

Jane was born in Boat Harbour to Elder and Muriel Woodward. She was raised there until she went to St. Anthony to work at the hospital. On May 8, 1962 she married Gordon Applin. They lived in St. Anthony for a number of years before moving back to St. Barbe. She and Gordon had two children Dennis and Sheila. Jane was an active woman who loved knitting and enjoyed card games, berry picking, gardening and camping. She and Gord enjoyed working in their garden as well as spending time in their camper. On Friday Jane passed peacefully away.

Jane is survived by her husband of 60 years Gordon as well as her children Dennis (Mary Ann), and Sheila (Bob), also her grandchildren Shannon (Angela), Kerry (Lisa) and Mateo (Charlotte).and great-grand children Ella and Evan. She is also survived by her sisters Eleanor, Gladys, Ethel, and brother George.

She is predeceased by her parents Elder and Muriel, brothers Nelson and Harrison, and sisters Bessie, and Evangeline. She will be sadly missed.

Visitation to take place from the United Church in Pidgeon Cove beginning the evening of Sunday, June 26, 2022 and will continue until the funeral on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 2:00pm with Rev, John McGonigle officiating. Interment to follow.

PILGRIM, VELMA BERNICE (Nee Tucker)

October 25, 1944 - June 8, 2022

Today we honor the life of our dear wife, mother and grandmother. She was a truly amazing woman whom we loved and cherished.

Bernice was born in Ship Cove on October 25, 1944, the oldest child of Annie and William Tucker. She lived with her parents and two younger sisters until she was 16 and then left to work with the Grenfell Mission and attend school in St. Anthony.

While working in St. Anthony she met her life-long partner and future husband, Guy, The two were inseparable and did almost everything together. They were married in 1966 and had on child together.

Bernice loved her flowers and was often seen outside attending her flower beds or in the greenhouse. She also very much enjoyed going to the cabin, berry picking, knitting, and spending quality time with family and friends.

She dedicated her life to her family and making sure they were supported in whatever they did and that they never felt anything other than loved.

Left to always remember and mourn are husband, Guy; Daughter, Trudy; Son-in-law, Keith; Grandchildren, Bradley and Jenna; Sisters, Sandra, Mamie and a circle of extended family and friends.

After her passing, cremation took place in St. Johns. A funeral service took place from the St. Anthony Bight United Church on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 11:00 am with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. GENGE, MABEL

January 1, 1932 - June 24, 2022

Passed away June 24, 2022 at her home in Deadman’s Cove at the age of 90 years.

Mabel is forever loved and remembered by her Daughters, Joy (Michael) Byrde, Una Genge; Son, Jock (Dale) Genge; Grandchildren, Danielle and Christopher; Great-grandchildren, Karlee, Hannah, Isaac and Alyssa; Sister-in-law, Olive Samson; Brother-in-law, Cyril Shepard, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mabel is predeceased by her Husband, Rendell; Son, Floyd; Parents, John and Edna Chambers; Brother, Curtis; Sisters, Mary, Olga, Ethel, Minnie, Bertha, and Marion; Mother and Father In-Laws, Charles and Eva Genge as well as many brothers and sister in-laws and other family members.

Visitation was held from St. Matthews Anglican Church in Anchor Point from where the service took place on June 28, 2022 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Short officiating. Interment followed. KEATS, EDWARD RALPH

Edward Ralph (Ricky) Keats

Ralph (Ricky) Keats passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Centre, St. Anthony, on June 17, 2022, with his family, at his side.

He was born in St. Anthony on July 2, 1932, the son of Samuel and Emma Keats. Ralph married Mabel Moores from Red Bay, Labrador on January 16, 1963. They had three children, Sharon, Shawn, and Terry.

Ralph worked with the Department of Highways as a heavy equipment operator for twenty-five years. He enjoyed the outdoors -- gardening, fishing, hunting, berry picking…

He leaves to mourn his wife, Mabel, sons Shawn (Madonna) and Terry, grandson, Mark, and sister Gertie.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Sharon, parents Samuel and Emma Keats, brothers Baxter, Joseph, and Raymond, and sister Edna.


RUMBOLT, ARTHUR MICHAEL

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Arthur Rumbolt age 84, of Castor River South on June 17, 2022 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony surrounded by his loving wife of 62 years (Clara) and all of his loving family.

Art was born on St. John's Island on July 29, 1937 to Lawerence Rumbolt and Jane Gaulton (pre deceased).

He married the love of his life Clara Tatchell on July 26, 1959 and started their family in December 1960.

Art was a very hard working man. He fished along side his brother Lawerence until he retired.

He loved to visit his cabin and go sight seeing for moose, he spent lots of time at the gardens, wood, lawn and berry picking. Although this wasn't his favourite thing to do (LOL), he always went along with his wife. He loved playing cards, especially a good game of poker and spending time with his family.

His family and wife were everything to him. He was a very devoted husband, dad and pop. He loved to see his family visit. He has many fond memories of the time they have shared.

He is survived by his four sons Lyman (Edna) Rumbolt, Luke (Theresa) Rumbolt, Jim (Phyllis) Rumbolt, Stewart (Jessie) Rumbolt. His four daughters Eliza (Stewart) Tatchell, Alva (George) Tatchell, Velma Rumbolt, Vina (Tony) Plowman.

Grandchildren Linda (Dion) Caines, Marvin (Terra-Lynn) Tatchell, Joshua (Kim) Tatchell, Lyman jr. (Sabrina) White, Mindy (Blake) Skappak, Kendra (Kerry) Plowman, Kandice Plowman and Reid Myers.

Great grandchildren Colby Baines, Carly Tatchell, Brielle Rumbolt, Marian Rumbolt, Adrian Rumbolt and Lincoln Skappak, And a large circle of family and friends

Art was brother to Ralph (Laura) Gaulton (pre deceased), Lawrence (Rebecca) Rumbolt, John Genneaux (pre deceased), Frank (Irene) Rumbolt, Cliff (Erma) Rumbolt, Kevin (Carmelita) Rumbolt.

Sisters Dulcie (pre deceased) (William) Tatchell and Bridget (Donald)(pre deceased) Scanlon.

Rosary will take place on June 18, 2022 at Queen of The Angels in Castor River South at 7:30 p.m. Family service will take place June 19, 2022 at 7 p.m.

Funeral service will take place June 20, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Queen of The Angels Church in Castor River South with Fr. Rossi Officating, cremation to follow at a later date.

The family wishes to thank those who visited, sent gifts, food, messages, prayers and calls during their time in St. Anthony.

Thank you to the staff of the Dialysis Unit at Curtis Memorial Hospital. You were wonderful to him. Also, thanks to the staff in Palliative Care Unit, your thoughtfulness and kindness will never be forgotten.

REEVES, HARRISON RAYFIELD

July 1, 1949 - June 9, 2022

Passed away June 9. 2022 at the age of 72 years.

Harrison was born in Englee on July 1, 1949 to Sidney and Ada Reeves. He met the love of his life, Doris Curtis in 1969 and on May 27th 1970 they were married and together they had 3 daughters, that were his world.

Harrison worked hard in his lifetime at different places, starting with the Whale Plant in Williamsport, and then the fish plant in Englee for a good many years before taking his family and moving to St. John’s where he worked as a carpenter. Eventually they moved back and settled in Bide Arm where he worked on the floor of the Fish Plant until he was promoted to foreman, and he remained until the closing of the plant. After that he did the next best thing to the plant- he went fishing. First with the Englee Pride (Reuben Curtis) and The Green Islander (Alvin Cassell). Overall he was a hard worker, he would help anyone who needed it no matter how sick he was or not, he wouldn’t say anything, he just wanted to make sure he got it done.

Harrison gave his heart to the Lord in April 1998 and everyone who knew him, knew he was a changed man who loved God, and certainly also loved his church.

Harrison was dearly loved and will be missed by his Wife, Doris; Daughters, Darlene (Perry) Cassell, Tina (Brad) Randell, Colleen Reeves (Kyle Frank); Grandchildren, Bronson, Dylis (Skyla Cull), Laura (Peter Norris), Chantal, Angus (Rebecca Pendleton), Josh; Great-Grandchildren, Bentley and Layla; Brothers, Harold (June), Alfred (Shirley), Wilfred (Josie), Derrick (Linda); Sisters, Margaret (Bill), Barbara (Baxter), Josephine (Woodrow) and Ruby, as well as a large number of in-laws, nieces, nephews, as well as many, many extended family and friends.

Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Church in Englee, followed by the funeral service on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 2:00 pm with Majors Arley and Darlene Masters officiating, supported by Corps Officer, Major Lillian Pelley. Interment followed.

RYLAND, CYRIL

August 6, 1948- June 10, 2022

Born to Samuel and Sarah Ryland on August 6, 1948. Passed away June 10, 2022 from the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 73 years.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his Wife (common-law spouse) Gertrude Applin; Sons, Damien Ryland (Jocelyn), George Ryland (Sheena); Daughter, Tracey Applin (Darrell); Stepson, Edward Brinson (Colleen); Brother, William Ryland (Adeline); Sister, Eileen Toope, as well as other extended family and friends.

Cyril is predeceased by his Father, Samuel Ryland; Mother, Sarah Jane Ryland; Brothers, Clarence Ryland, Edward Ryland; Levi Ryland, Terry Ryland, and Joseph Ryland.

PATEY, ANNIE VIOLA

February 26, 1935 - June 7, 2022

Viola Patey, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, NL at the age of 87 years.

Viola was a long time member of the St. Anthony Lion's Club & A.C.W

Viola is survived by her children Phyllis (Ed), Madonna (Francis), Lana, Rodger (Sandra). Grandchildren Michelle (Keith), Sheldon (Terri-Lynn), Craig, Chad, Melanie (Brad), Justin (Meghan), Jonathan (Shaunna).

Great-Grandchildren Jenna, Tyler, Cameron, Shelby-Lynn, Peter, Nikolas, Dylan. Sister-in-Law Adelaide Richards and a large circle of family & friends.

Viola is predeceased by her husband Harry Patey. Parents Cyril & Mary Richards. Sisters Rose (George), Beatrice, Cenith (Norman). Brothers Fred (Elizabeth), John (Elizabeth), Ben.

The family would like thank all the doctors and nurses at Curtis Memorial Hospital that cared for Viola during her stay, especially Dr. El-Hadi.

MCCARTHY, JEROME PATRICK

Jerome Patrick McCarthy, born in St. Anthony on March 13, 1957, passed away peacefully on June 02, 2022 at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 65.

Jerome began fishing with his family at a very young age. He moved from St. Juliens to Goose Cove in 1972 where he met his loving wife Agnes. Together they raise three beautiful children. His battle with medical conditions over the years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile.

Jerome was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Laura McCarthy, brother John McCarthy, and grandson Lincoln McCarthy.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 40 years Agnes McCarthy, Daughters Patricia McCarthy (Shane), Sarah McCarthy (Chad), son Troy McCarthy (Natasha), brother Ron McCarthy (Lynn), Sisters Annie McDonald (Kevin), Alice Parsons (Steve), sister in law Eileen McCarthy, Grandchildren Joshua (Katherine), Claire, Jack and Leo. As well as a large circle of family and friends, including the Hunt family from Conche.

Special thank you to all of the home care workers who helped to take care of Jerome over the past 6 years.

April 12th, 1971- June 1st, 2022

Tammy Passed away June 1st, 2022 at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family at the young age of 51 years after losing her battle to cancer. Tammy is forever remembered by her loving husband of 26 years, Ike; Daughter, Keisha(TJ); Son, Logan; Parents, Emmanuel and Rosalie; Father in- law, Isaac; Grandmother, Rhoda, as well as a large circle of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. Predeceased by Sister; Marilyn Genge; Mother in Law, Hazel Genge; Grandparents, Levi and Goldie Mitchelmore; Grandfather, Clyde Mitchelmore Sr; Aunt Marilyn; Uncles, Clyde, Harris; Cousin, Sonya Parrill.

Tammy loved being at the cabin with her family and friends, loved being at the dry spruce with her husband, loved to dance and have a good time, and she loved spending time with her two children. She met a lot of friends at her two jobs, which she loved dearly.

The family would like to thank the staff of Straits of Belle Isle, and Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital for their generosity and treating us like family.
