Barbara Brown (nee Samson), Brig Bay, NL, October 14th, 1941 – February 3rd, 2020 Passed peacefully away in the arms of the Lord on February 3rd, 2020, at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre at the age of 78. She leaves with fond memories her daughter, Diane, son in-law Douglas, granddaughter Brittany (Dale Herter), step-daughter Christine (Wilson Pickett), sister Elsie, sister in laws Eileen (Cecil Dominaux), Jessie, Bernice, aunt Ursula, and special nieces, Marilyn and Linda. She is predeceased by her husband Wilson, parents Peter and Bessie, sister Marina and brothers: Thomas, Hiram, Conrad, and Kevin, brother in-law Grant, sister-in laws Emma and Effie. Barbara dearly loved her family, from Sundays spent at her parents’ house with her siblings, to extended vacations with her daughter and granddaughter in Ontario. As a true Newfoundlander, she loved a good game of cards and cooking her Sunday’s dinner. She will always be remembered for her caring heart and sense of humour. She is now resting peacefully and will forever be in our hearts. Passed away January 22, 2020 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 77 years. Christine was born on July 5, 1942 in Cooks Harbour, NL. She met the love of her life, George Carroll in Cooks Harbour, in 1961 they married and moved to Locks Cove. In 1966 George and Christine moved to St. Anthony where they raised their three children. Christine had many jobs through her life including working at St. Anthony Motel, Flavour Crisp Chicken, and Fishery Products where she worked until her retirement in 1992. Throughout her years, Christine was a happy and enthusiastic person, enjoying a good game of darts, bingo and cards. George and Christine will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Wilfred, a kind-hearted, gentle, hardworking man who was well loved by family and all who knew him. He was born to Clement and Gertrude Richards on May 7, 1931. He married Emma, the love of his life on July 22, 1955 and together they raised five children who were the apple of his eye. Throughout his life he was a fisherman, truck driver, forestry ranger, a carpenter and a businessman. Out of all of those jobs not one could compare to his love of the work he did for his church. A wonderful, loving, kind man, with a heart of gold who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered. On August 26, 1946 she married Claude Hopkins of Englee and together they raised 9 children. Anyone who knew Drucella appreciated her great sense of humor. She had a very positive attitude and loved to have fun. She loved everybody and made it a point to let them know before they left her house. She was a very open-minded, strong-willed and independent individual. She will be missed by everyone who knew her because to know her was to love her. Viola Elizabeth Humby (nee Earle) was born to Augustus and Mary Anne Earle of St. Lunaire on February 15, 1933. She was one of nine children. In 1949 she married John Humby of St. Lunaire and together they raised eight children. She was a home maker for all her life and worked hard to provide for her family. She loved her garden where she grew all her favourite vegetables. One of her greatest hobbies was knitting and she spent much time knitting socks, sweaters, mitts etc. for whoever needed them. Many, many hours she spent preparing for the long winter months by picking berries and drying rounders and caplin to feed her family. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each one was special to her and she was known to always send each child a card on their birthday with a little money tucked inside. Above all, Viola loved the Lord and was a faithful member of her home church. She held the WM group close to her heart and was more than generous in her giving her time and financial support to the church. Thomas Simms was born to Effie (Reid) and Reuben Simms of St. Anthony Bight on July 17, 1944. Tom lived in St. Anthony Bight until he went to Moncton, New Brunswick to take training as a pilot. After completing his training he worked in gander, as well as Goose Bay, returning to St. Anthony in 1976 to work with Grenfell Regional Health Services. He worked there until he retired in 2009. In 1967 Tom married Peggy Budgell of St. Anthony and together they raised two children, Tommy and Tammy. Tom was a kind man and a great friend to all. He enjoyed nature, his gardens, and tinkering with all kinds of engines and could get anything that wasn’t working to work. Tom was a man of great faith and was always faithful to his church. After battling cancer for several years, Tom passed away peacefully on Monday evening, January 13th, 2020 at the age of 75. He leaves to mourn, his wife of nearly 53 years, Peggy; Son, Tom (Sherry); Daughter, Tammy (Dave), as well as his two granddaughters, Amanda and Ashley; Two great-grandsons, Jorden and Jackson. He also leaves to mourn his sister, Bernice (Roy); Brother, Roy (Irene); Sister-in-law, Marie; four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
