Elizabeth Sarah Richards was an only child born to Charles Whyatt and Florence Rose of St. Carols. She spent her whole life as a stay at home mother in St. Carol's, devoutly looking after her children and other family members. Forever loved and forever missed by family and friends. She leaves to mourn her Sons, Willis (Shirley), Headley (Faye), Harrison (Judy), Hubert (Barbara), Lester (Viona), David (Jackie); Daughters, Nellie (Richard), Florence (Freeman), and Alma (Wayne); 40 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, and 10 great greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by her Husband, John; Daughters, Nina and Evelyn; Son Glenn; Grandchildren Brian, Tyrone, Janice, Henry, and Christopher. Visitation was held from the Anglican Church in St. Carols from where the funeral was held on October 2, 2019 with Rev. Katie Taylor- Flynn officiating. Interment followed. Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Nursing Home in St. Anthony at the age of 82 years. Margaret Best (Quinlan) was born to Fannie (Brown) and Walter Quinlan of Wild Bight. She married Norman Best on December 3, 1955 and together they raised four children. She leaves to mourn with fond memories, her Children; Keith (Trudy), Kevin Sr. (Shirley), Elmore (Sharon), and Dwayne (Daphne); Sisters, Viola (William Seeley), Linda (Don Butler); Brother, John; In-laws, Frances and Lewis Pynn, Patricia Best, Ruth Quinlan; Grandchildren, Bev (Tim), Sheryl (Darren), Brenda (Brad), Nikki (Terry), Curtis, Candace (Justin), and Kevin Jr; Great-grandchildren, Parker, Preston, and Stanley. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Norman; Parents, Walter and Fannie (Brown) Quinlan); Brothers, Raymond and Ross; Sister, Beatrice Patey; In-laws, Edgar and Gertrude Best, Bud Best, Hazel (Maidment) Quinlan, and Baxter Patey. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and will continue on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 2-4 pm with the family service taking place at 8:00 pm Thursday evening. POWELL, JANINE
August 31, 1989 - September 22, 2019
On September 22nd 2019, our beloved Janine passed peacefully away in the loving arms of her parents in St. Anthony. Janine Powell was born to Wanita (nee Normore) and Clifford Powell on August 31st, 1989 in St. Anthony, where she was loved dearly by her mom and dad, and brothers Jonathan and Alexander.
Though she faced a myriad of challenges that set her apart from her peers in many ways, Janine held an incredible presence that had a positive impact on many. Those challenges were met with a resilience and fortitude that inspired all who knew of her story. Friends were drawn to her presence from everywhere.
Through her vulnerabilities Janine gave us the gift of insight and showed us things we might otherwise have missed. She helped us to see her beautiful soul. She gave us the gift of perspective. She reminded us that most of our problems are not really problems, and to be grateful for what we have. We must savor the sweet, beautiful moments we have every day. Janine gave us the gift of unconditional love. Unconditional love is loving even when it hurts, even when it’s not easy. It’s loving because you simply can’t help but love. And that is the greatest triumph of any life. To love and be loved. And Janine taught us how to love without words, without limits, without reasons. She gave us the gift of beauty. Her life was not easy, and it was not glamorous. There were a lot of hard times, for her and for her family and friends. But she taught us that we can see past the difficulties and find the beauty, for there is always beauty.
Janine was a student at St. Anthony Elementary where she was cared for and nurtured by her professional teachers and student assistants. She spent time at the family cabin, known as Janine’s Place, and in the camper with her family on road trips. She was the core of the family unit, spending much time embraced in the arms of loved ones. She was blessed with various caregivers who showed her much love, compassion and devotion. Janine was always present and involved in family and community events, whether it was snow sculpting, sliding, fun camp fires, Christmas parades, finger painting, ski doo rides, boat trips and annual family Christmas tree hunts. She participated in holiday events including Hallowe’en, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter celebrations. She was a member of Sparks, Brownies and Girl Guides.
Janine is predeceased by her paternal grandparents Myra and Winston Powell. Left to cherish her memories are her parents Wanita and Cliff, brothers Jonathan and Alexander, maternal grandparents Levi and Tamsie Normore, and a host of extended family and friends.
Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home has been entrusted with final arrangements. Janine’s cremains and a slideshow celebrating her, will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church on Thursday, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm for family and friends. The funeral service will be held on Friday, 11:00 am.

CANNING, ROGER SIDNEY
July 1, 1965 – September 12, 2019
Roger Sidney Canning was born on a beautiful sunny day on July 1, 1965, in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, to the late Arthur and Hilda Canning. Roger grew up in his hometown Roddickton, Newfoundland, a place that was always very near and dear to his heart. In his hometown, he built a life for him and his family and made such precious memories along the way. Roger was well known for his carpentry skills, building his first home in his mid-twenties. Roger spent over 30 years traveling outside of Newfoundland, to the Northern Ontario area, to pursue his career in carpentry. Roger is also known for his love of playing guitar, singing and his chats with good friends and family over a cup of coffee. Roger was the beloved father of Skyler and Dylan Canning; being their dad brought so much joy to his life. Roger married the love of his life, Dorothy, on December 17, 2015 and together made a lifetime of happiness and memories. Roger welcomed into his life, with love and open arms, two step-daughters; Jessica and Rachel. Roger cherished every minute he spent with his four grandchildren; Terrell, Mylah, Jaxson, and Jordyn , who always put a smile on his face. Upon returning to work this September, Roger passed suddenly in Red Lake, Ontario, leaving behind his knowledge and fascination for the word of God with others. Roger adored his family and will always be remembered for how much love and support he offered to them during his time on earth. ROBERTS, LOREN KURT
Passed away September 5th, 2019 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 55 years. Loren leaves to mourn with cherished memories; Wife - Pansy, daughters – Samantha (Keith) and Lorna (Ryan), along with the lights of his life, three precious grandchildren; Clay, Kai and Rachel. He also leaves to mourn his extended immediate family; Frances (Isreal), Ralph, Hubert (Doris), Edward (Lavenia), Albert (Triffenia), Boyce (Michele), Alec (Loretta), Eli (Marlene), Grace, Amanda (Wayne), Gail (Keith), Samantha (Brian), Lucy-Ann, Tim (Angela), Ena, nieces, nephews and numerous special friends. Loren was pre-deceased by; Mother – Jean, Father – Andrew, father-in-law - Carmen and brother - Calvin.
Loren was a jack of all trades and loved spending time in the great outdoors. He took great pride in everything he did and had never backed down from a challenge. Other than spending quality time with family, his three greatest loves included spending his time on the great North Atlantic, truck driving on the wide open roads and mastering any carpentry task sent his way. Even in his months of illness, Loren took each day as a blessing.
Family and Friends are welcome to visit the Central United Church on September 8th, 2019 from 7-9pm to pay respect. A celebration of life will be held September 9th, 2019 at 2pm followed with inurnment burial at Central United Cemetery. PILGRIM, RONALD HAYWARD
June 6, 1935 – August 30th, 2019
Ronald was born in Griquet to George & Mae Pilgrim on June 6, 1935. He married the love of his life Sylvia October 23, 1957 and together they raised ten children which includes Renee. It was on June 29, 1992, that he received a heart-breaking blow when his daughter Minnie passed away suddenly due to an automobile accident. Ron loved making a living on the water, he loved to build boats and wood working, loved to drive works and loved watching the boys sparring with boxing gloves. He loved to work with his hands and loved the harbour view from his kitchen window. No one loved chips, ice cream and candy like Ron did. He also loved his evening ritual of visiting Burden's store for his snack cravings and always did his best to provide for the family. His kids kept him in the taxi business throughout their teenage years but he loved it. He was never a big man but he could work with anyone and took pride in that. He was at times a private person and on early Friday morning in a private moment he slipped away without so much as a sigh. He was a greatly loved man who drank from the cup and saucer of life for 84 years. If love could have saved him, he never would have died. PORTER, RUDY
July 15, 1952 - August 29, 2019
Rudy was born in Kelligrews, on July 15, 1952. He was adopted by Wilfred and Clairenda Porter and he was very devoted to them. Rudy spent his early years in Long Pond, before coming to Englee as a young man. After graduation from high school he went on to Memorial University to become a teacher. He loved his profession and served 30 years as a teacher. In 1982 he married Glenda Newman and they raised their children here in Englee. Rudy was a devoted member of this church, serving on the boards of both this congregation and the Pastoral Charge. He was an extremely talented musician, leading our choir and providing music for our services. Rudy also gave of his talents to the other churches on our charge regularly. He said he wanted to thank the church for the opportunity to serve. Rudy also offered himself to provide music in the other churches in the area as well as the community. He was a tireless volunteer serving on council as Councillor and mayor. If there was a need, Rudy gladly stepped up to the plate to offer help. Nearly two years ago Rudy discovered he had cancer. He bravely fought the disease, but on August 29th he passed away at the Health Centre in Roddickton. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Glenda, his son Adrian, daughter Kerry-Lynn (Travis), daughter Lynette Simms (Doug),as well as his grandchildren Braylon, Quinn, Rebecca and Ryan. He also leaves to mourn his sisters Velma, Joyce (Ron), Trudy (Bob), brothers Frank (Phyllis), and Dwight (Julia). Rudy is also survived by nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law aunts and uncles, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Clairenda, and his biological mother Dora Tilley As we remember Rudy, we realize how much he enriched our lives by his generous spirit and how much he will be missed. Visitation to be held from the United Church in Englee on Sunday, August 31, 2019 with the funeral taking place on Monday, September 2, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. FILLIER, RHODA
September 11, 1930 – August 27, 2019
Rhoda passed away on Aug. 27, 2019 at John M. Gray Nursing home in St. Anthony. Rhoda Fillier was born in Williamsport, NL on Sept. 11, 1930 to Harry & Faith (Canning) Randell. On April. 13. 1949 she married Hubert Fillier of Englee. To complete the family, six children were born: Hardy, Leamond, Harold, Joan, Edwin & Varrick. They later accepted a foster son (Howard Fillier) into their home for five years. Rhoda worked hard to provide and care for her family. For several years, she was employed at the local fish plant. She also loved the great outdoors and along with her friend Eileen, spent much time rabbit catching, trouting and berry picking. In later years, she enjoyed travelling out of town to visit her relatives. She also loved her evening drives around the area with her friend, Fannie. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter: Joan Randell (George), sons: Edwin (Lily) and Varrick (Pansy); foster son: Howard (Evelyn); daughters-in-law: Patsy & Mary, stepsister: Edith Newman (John), grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives & friends. She is predeceased by husband: Hubert, sons: Hardy, Leamond & Harold. Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Church in Englee with Majors Wilfred and Wavey Simms officiating on August 30, 2019 at 11:00 am. Interment followed. Passed August 26th, 2019 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 63 years. She leaves to cherish memories, her daughters; Laurie (Fern) Schnabel, Gwen Wilcox, Tanya Sayner; Son, Kevin Wilcox; Brothers, Gideon (Judy) Randell, Vay Randell, Ambrose Randell, David (Sharon) Randell, Osbourne (Roxanne) Randell, as well as six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, one step great granddaughter and a large circle of friends and relatives. MITCHELMORE, STEPHEN

Passed away August 20, 2019 at the age of 60 years. Steve was a man who loved life. He was always on the go and could often be found out fishing. He had many friends. He loved to have a good laugh. If he wasn’t on the water you could find him in the woods at his cabin. He loved his husky Storm. He gave what he had with his whole heart and he was always caring for others. He leaves to mourn his Mom, Eleanor; Wife, Lorna Hedderson; Brothers, Lamboyde (Cheryl) and Alvin; Nephews Dustin and Chad; Aunts, Carrie, Effie, Nora & Millie; Uncle Frank; His very special cousin Elizabeth (Sis), and many wonderful friends, cousins, & family members.
