SAUNDERS, OLIVE

April 16th, 1920 ~ April 24th, 2014

 

Olive was born on April 16th, 1920 as the eldest child of William and Gladys (Hancock) Allingham in Cooks Harbor. She married Fredrick Joseph Saunders of St. Lunaire on September 2, 1940. As a result of their marriage, they were blessed with the birth of four daughters and five sons. They also raised two granddaughters. Olive’s hands were always busy, making clothes for her children, making skin boots (In the early days!), knitting, hooking rugs, making quilts, and baking. Her bread and pies were the very best! She also spent many hours in the fishing stage with her husband during the 30 summers they spent at Indian Tickle on the Labrador coast. Later in life Olive married Francis Sampson of River of Ponds aknd Selby Loder of St. Lunaire-Griquet. She was loved and cherished by all and will be missed dearly. Olive passed away on April 24th, 2014 at the Charles s. Curtis memorial hospital in her 94th year. Olive Leaves To Mourn her sons; Herbert (Evangeline), Rex (Irene), Ezra (Viann), Sherwin (Patricaia), Wade (Coleen), Daughters Mary (Frank), Isabel Simms, Gladys Hedderson, Alma (Ronald), Maxine Peyton, Glenys (Havner). Sisters; Alma Stryde, Grace (Chuck) Milks, Triffena (Ernest) Rodgers, Laverne (Ralph) Colbourne, June (Ralph) Drover. Brothers Basil (Irene), Edgar (Elsie), Horace, Stedman (Marjorie), Llewellyn (Thelma). Brother in law Eric (Rita) Saunders, Sister in law Loretta Saunders, AS well as 35 Grandchildren, 70 Great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews and other relatives and close friends.  The visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in St. Lunaire- Griquet, from which the funeral service was held on Sunday April 27th with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating, burial followed in the Church Cemetery. PILGRIM, RUTH VIVIAN

Ruth was born in Harry’s Harbour, Green Bay, Newfoundland to Elihu and Gladys King. She had 3 sisters, Jeanette, Hazel, Phyllis and one brother Morris. When her father died, she was three. Her mother then married John Cull who Ruth always said was good to them. Her baby sister Mary was soon born. She spent her childhood in Ireland Bight, and loved it still into her last days. She became a school teacher at the age of 18, taught school in Locke’s Cove, then found herself in another Bight as a teacher. It was while teaching in St. Anthony Bight that she met Clarence Pilgrim. They married and built a life that brought joy, struggle, hope and loss. In 1978 she buried her youngest child Sheldon, and in 1996 she buried her sweet husband. On Wednesday April 23rd Ruth passed peacefully away. She is survived by her children Patsy (Alonzo), Kevin (Veronica), Keith (Yvonne), Lloyd (Jackie), Sharon (Bob), grandchildren Renee, Rhonda (Chris) Lonnie (Karen), Christa (Trevor), Nicholas, Amanda (Jake), Sheldon (Robbi-Lynn), Alex (Kristen), Kristopher, Victoria (Cory), Lucas and great-granddaughter Kalee. Ruth is also held in the hearts of her surviving siblings, Phyllis, Morris and Mary and in many other extended family across Newfoundland, in pockets of Labrador, across Canada and into the United States. Ruth enjoyed her family and friends, loved to travel and into the end of her days was a lover of nature, birds, butterflies, flowers and the rare hummingbird that flew through the trees outside her window. As she prepared to go she said she was about to go on a journey and didn’t even need to pack a suitcase. Her family is certain that her son and husband are waiting for her. She will be missed and ever loved. Visitation was held at the united church in St. Anthony bight, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Saturday April 26th with Rev. John M. McGonigle officiating, burial followed in the St. Anthony Bight Community Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements where entrusted to Kerry M. PYNN, ALBERT GEORGE

Passed away peacefully at the Sir Thomad Roddick Hospital in Stephenville on the 21st day of April 2014. Mr. Albert George Pynn of Quirpon was in his 57th year. He leaves to mourn with loving memories his Daughter Miranda(Chris), Grandson Jax, Fiancee Paulette and daughters Kevannah and Emily, Parents Albert and Effie, Sisters Eliza(Robert), Annie(Guy), Brother Bradley(Peggy) as well as a large circle of family and friends. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony and Central United Church in Quirpon followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm on the 25th day of April 2014 with Rev. Gus Pendleton and Major Baggs officiating. Internment followed in the Quirpon Community Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted Kerry M. GILLARD, HANK BEVERLY FRANK

Passed away on the 14th of April at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, in his 62nd year, Mr. Hank Beverly Frank Gillard. Frank was born in Roddickton on February 29th, 1952 to parents John and Sylvia. he grew up in  Roddickton with his twelve brothers an sister. he later met and married Annie May Adams and they nine beautiful children.  he worked for two years in the mines in Sudbury, worked as foremen for seventeen years, he was also the maintenance man for the town of Roddickton. he owned convenience stores and ran "The Bam" for several years. he played music at an early age . there was not an instrument that he could play. He always had faith in the lord. he was a true believer. Left to mourn are his dear wife Annie May, his son Hank (Melissa), Daughter Vina, Jennifer (Rick), Candida (Jamie), Petrina, Janiece, Beverly (Dean), Deanza, Jacinta. 7 Granddaughters, 8 Grandsons, Sisters Dora Randell (Norman), Myrtle Canning, Etta-Mae Tiller, Brothers John, Lloyd, Leander, Raymond and Robert Randell as well as a large circle of family and friends. He lived to see the passing of his parents Sylvia and Jonathan Gillard, his sisters Marjorie, Mary and Georgie, and his brother Stennie. Visitation was held at the funeral home in Roddickton. The funeral Service was held at the Pentecostal Church in Roddickton with pastor G. B. Pinksen officiating. burial followed in the Church cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. DAVIS, AMBROSE

Passed Away Peacefully on the 10th of April, 2014 at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony, Mr. Ambrose Davis of Goose Cove In his 88th year. Ambrose (Brose) leaves to mourn his ()((*&^%$%^&*^) special Friend Anna Fitzpatrick, and sister Veronica Bromley. Ambrose lived to see the passing of his mother and father, Cecila Alward and Ambrose Davis, his sisters Irene Davis , Bridget (Cyril Ward), Laura (William Alyward), his brother John Davis and special friend Mahala Chambers. The visitation took place at the funeral home in St. Anthony followed by the Funeral Mass in The Roman Catholic Church in Goose Cove at 11:00am on the 14th of April with Father Anthony Nwaohiri officiating. burial followed the service in The Goose Cove Roman Catholic Cemetery. MITCHELMORE, STEDMAN

Passed Away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 10th of April 2014 at the age of 83 years, Mr. Stedman Mitchelmore of Green Island Cove. Stedman leaves to mourn his children Mona (Baxter), Marie (Terrance), Clifford (Betty), Leona (Gary), Vina, Patsy, Jouce (Roland), and Ramsey (Angela). as well his sister Marina, Brothers Claude and Stewart and 14 Grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. Stedman lived to see the passing of his wife Amy, parents john and Alice, brother William Henry, and sisters Celia and Dolorez. The Visitation was held at St. Andrews Anglican Church in Lower Cove, From Which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Saturday April 12th, 2014 with Rev. Letto and lay person Maxine Hughes officiating. burial followed in the Anglican cemetery in Green Island Cove. Funeral Arrangements Were entrusted to Kerry M. RANDELL, MATILDA

June 6, 1938  ~  April 7, 2014 

Matilda was born on June 6, 1938 to the late Arthur & Susanna Compton of Englee. She married the love of her life, Norman Randell of Hooping Harbour, on November 15th, 1955. Together they raised 7 children; Wanda, Gideon (Judy), Ambrose, Vay (Christine), David (Sharon), Nelson (Deceased) and Osborne (Roxanne).Matilda was a devoted wife and a wonderful mom. She was a special friend to everyone and loved by all who knew her. She gave her heart to Jesus around the age of 19, was enrolled as a Soldier on April 11, 1993 and was a faithful member of her Corps until sickness prevented her from attending. Matilda stood on God’s promises all her life and knew what it was to serve him faithfully in every circumstance and was looked upon by many as a great prayer warrior and encourager. Matilda leaves to mourn her husband (Norman), 6 children, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 brother Ray (Ruth) and 2 sisters Ella and Hazel (Ron),  son-in-law Kevin & Daughter-in-law Gloria. She is predeceased by her son, her parents, 5 sisters and 5 brothers. The visitation was held at the Salvation Army church in Englee NL, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Friday April 11th, with Major Bingle officiating. STEVENS, ELDRED

It is with great sadness that the family of the Late Eldred Stevens of Shoal Cove East announce his passing on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014.  He was in his 89th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories special niece Susan White, as well as other nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony from which the funeral service was held at 11:00am on April  4th, 2014 at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Findlay officiating. WARREN, CLAYTON

Passed away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial on the 17th day of March 2014. Mr. Clayton Warren of Cook's Harbour was in his 80th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 59 years Gladys, his children Juanita (Owen deceased), Leu(Bertha), Daphne(Lester), Donna(Allan), Hayward(Bernette), and Jeffrey, Eleven Grandchildren, Seven Great-Grandchildren, Brother Garfield(Ada), Sister Elsie(Leonard), Sister-in-Laws Deborah and Ivy, Brother-in-Laws Everton, Aaron and Winnie as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by  his parents Harrison and Florence, Siblings Irene, Bertram, Rita, Virginia. Visitation was held at the St. Matthews Anglican Church in Cook's Harbour from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 20th day of March 2014 with Rev. Mark O. Wilkoff officiating. DECKER, LOUISE

Passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 17th day of March 2014. Mrs. Louise Decker of Roddickton was in her 79th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Ross Decker(Daisy), Pamela Hillier(Garry), Patsy McAuley(Andrew), Six Grandchildren, Three Great Grandchildren, Brother Ross Powell(Laura), Sister Shirley Fillier(Alvin), as well as a large group of family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Loderick and Gladys Rowsell. Visitation was held at the Calvary Pentecostal Temple from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 20th day of March 2014 with Pastor G.B. Pinksen officiating.
