born at Great Brehat to Arthur and Caroline Fowler on July 12, 1933. Also born to that family - Mary-Jane, Rosie, Alma, Victor, William & Ross. Walter married Melita Hancock on May 20th. 1960. Bom to this union was Wayne, Judy, Linda, Dennis, Dean, Doreen, and David. He was a hard worker. He went to work in the woods at the early age of sixteen and continue working as a legger until he retired. All the while doing other jobs to help provide for his growing family. He was a good carpenter, he built his own home as well as other buildings and helped to build several long liners. He loved the outdoors, whether it was moose hunting, fishing, rabbit catching or planted his gardens. He also loved to discuss politics with anyone. Walter was not a church going man himself but always made sure that his family went to Church and Sunday school. He gave his life to the Lord in 2007. He was a very meek and mild man who didn't want to be a bother to anyone. After becoming a widower in 2007 he decided to move to Shirley's Haven in St. Anthony. Then in 2012 he suffered a stroke and was moved to the John Grey center where he remained until Monday evening. June 29, 2020 when he peacefully departed this life. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Melita; Parents Arthur & Caroline Fowler, Sisters Alma and Rosie and brother William. He leaves to cherish his memory, his Sons, Wayne (Shirley) Fowler, Dennis (Valerie) Fowler, Dean (Lisa) Fowler, David (Sheila) Fowler; Daughters, Judy (Boyce) Reid, Linda (Derrick) Reeves, Doreen Fowler; Brothers: Victor (Elaine) Fowler, Ross (Pauline) Fowler; Sister, Mary-Jane Hopkins. Private visitation took place from the Apostolic Church in Roddickton from where the funeral was held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 2, 2020 with Pastor Chris Hewlett officiating. EDISON, MARTHA ALICE
Martha Alice (Tucker) Edison was born to Thomas and Eliza of Ship Cove, NL on Dec. 13, 1926. Alice married the love of her life Jacob Edison of Hay Cove on Sept. 28th, 1948, where together they raised their family. Allie, As she was affectionately called by Jake, loved her children and grandchildren and they both Enjoyed visits form them all. When Jake passed away in 1992 she moved to Griquet and lived with her daughters until moving into Shirley’s haven in 2013. Alice enjoyed the simple pleasure in life, she cherished every gift someone gave her. She loved going for rides in car and looked forward to her Sunday car rides with her son John. Her favourite pass time was knitting, she would knit a baby sweater for anyone she knew that was having a baby. She loved her nighttime lunch of cheesies and the occasional lunch at Herb’s. Alice always had a smile and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Alice leaves to mourn with cherished memories her daughters Inice (Francis), Gloria (Albert), Deborah (Duncan), Daisy, Dora (Bob), Son Ramsey, Daughter in law Bessie, 14 Grandchildren and 17 Great grandchildren as well as Sister, Delilah. Alice was predeceased by her father Thomas, mother Eliza, husband Jacob and son John. The memorial service was held at Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home in St. Anthony NL with Rev. John McGonigle Officiating, Burial followed the Service at the Community Cemetery in L’anse Aux Meadows. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. COLES, BARBARA CAMILLA (Cammy)
June 10, 1974 – June 28, 2020
born June 10, 1974, passed away peacefully with her Mom and Dad by her side after a long struggle of different health issues at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on June 29, 2020 at the age of 46. Cammy loved everyone, especially her Mom and Dad, 2 Sisters Joanne and Jaylynn, and Madi, Kate, Luke, Nate, and Shea. She was very outgoing, loved to party and enjoyed her darts. She will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her parents, Philomena and Abe; Sisters, Joanne (Floyd), Jaylynn (Brandon); Nieces, Madi and Kate; Nephews, Luke, Nate, and Shea; Aunt Ivy, Uncle Wade and Family; Aunt Cornelia, Uncle Jim and Family; Uncle George, Aunt Barb and Family; Cynthia, Gord, and Family; Bill, Evelyn and Family; very special friend Zita Rumbolt and a large circle of extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her Grandparents, Elias and Rita Coles as well as her little cousin Ryan Coles. The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Claire’s Hospital and the Health Science Center for taking good care of Cammy during her stays. Also a big thank you to K. M. WOODWARD, NINA LILLIAN
Passed away peacefully on June 16, 2020, surrounded by her family in her home, in her 74th year. Nina Lillian Woodward was born on September 5, 1945 and spent her early years in Wild Bight. She later moved to St. Anthony with her family. Nina met the love of her life James Woodward while teaching at her first job in Boat Harbour. They had three daughters, Sheila, Shauna and Shirley who then became the love of their lives. Nina was known throughout her community and beyond for her delicious and skillful baking, especially her homemade bread. She loved flowers and gardening, was an excellent road hockey goalie and loved watching just about any sport her grandchildren were playing. She most recently worked at College of the North Atlantic as the campus Librarian where she thoroughly enjoyed working with her colleagues and helping students. She was a big part of the community, known and loved by all who knew her. To her nieces and nephews she was affectionately known as “Aunt Nina.” And whether it was a day, a week, or a month since she last saw you, you would be greeted with that beautiful smile and asked to sit down for a cup of tea and something to eat. She loved everything about life, but most of all she loved her family. She will be forever remembered and always loved by, husband James, daughters Sheila (Jeff), Shauna (Barry), Shirley (Chris), grandchildren Adam (Nikki) and Megan (Neil) and a long list of extended family and friends. Nina is predeceased by her parents Henry and Adelaide Decker, brothers Nathaniel (Emily), James (Ada) and Sisters Edith (Erastus), Joyce (Mark), her nieces Winnifred and Vivian and nephew Martin. Private Visitation to take place from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony with cremation to follow with a church service to be held at a later date.
TUCKER, ALLAN ROY
Passed away peacefully surrounded by Family at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, Mr. Allan Roy Tucker of Quirpon NL, in his 79th year. Left behind to mourn his loss are his beloved wife of 53 years Linda, his Children Deon Kelloway (Christa), Dereck Tucker (Jennifer) and Debbie Humby (Chris); his Brothers Levi (Nina - Deceased), Roland (Minnie), Les (Millicent), Carl (Joyce), Wilburt (Irene), Sister Pearl Earl (Herb), Brothers Alwin (Millicent) and Gary (Marion); his grandchildren Charlie, Morgan, Megan, Jack, Sam, and his Great Great Grandchildren Logan, Brooke, Brittney and Anwen. Roy was predeceased by his parents Arch and Aurelia and tragically, his grandson David. A celebration of Roy’s life will be held by the family at a later date, after which burial will take place at the Quirpon Community Cemetery in Quirpon NL.
PILGRIM, DAVID GRAHAM
David Graham Pilgrim was born September 15, 1963 in St. Anthony, NL. He is the firstborn child of Donald and Dulcie Pilgrim. He was predeceased by his father Donald in April 2004. David leaves behind to mourn his loving mother Dulcie, Siblings Mona (Todd), Dean ( Trixie ), Marsha ( Norman), Maxine (Perry.) He had no children of his own but played a huge role in the lives of his nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Nicole ( Trevor), Blair ( Sarah), Brandon ( Kayla), Brady (Marissa ), Reghan, Toby and Kylie. Great nieces Addison, Ariel and Audrey. David spent most of his adult life working with his father, Donald and brother, Dean in the family trucking and logging business in Roddickton. He spent the last 3 summers working with his sister Maxine and brother in law Perry in Ft. McMurray. David will be remembered for his love of family and friends. He had a large circle of friends far and near. He has been known as “Uncle Dave” to many. He had a gentle spirit and a heart of gold. He loved checking in with everyone as he made his rounds around town in his beloved truck. David had a great love of the outdoors. He was always the first one ready to head off on a skidooing or boating adventure. He was the life of a party and couldn’t wait to get out on the dance floor or play the garbage bag. David passed away suddenly in his sleep on June 7, 2020 leaving many saddened hearts. He will be deeply missed by all. He leaves to mother, Dulcie Pilgrim; Siblings, Mona Flynn (Todd), Dean Pilgrim (Trixie), Marsha Pilgrim (Norman), Maxine Tobin (Perry); Nieces and Nephews, Nicole, Brandon, Brady, Blair, Reghan, Kylie, Toby, Addison, Ariel, Audrey, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. David was predeceased his Father, Don Pilgrim. A small family funeral service was held at the Calvary Pentecostal Temple in Roddickton on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 with Pastor Mark Locke officiating. TAYLOR, MAMIE VICTORIA
March 1, 1930 - June 5, 2020 Born and raised in Raleigh, NL Mamie passed peacefully away at the age of 90 in her home, with her loving family by her side. Straight out of high school, Mamie taught school at St. Anthony Bight. She married Garland November 9th, 1949. She also spent 32 years as the post mistress in Raleigh. Mamie loved life and was very Social lady who enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family. She was particularly fond of travelling, as well as time Spent at the cabin snowmobiling, smelting and Cookouts. As well, she was an active member of the UCW, and a great support to the Church. She was avid gardener and had a great passion for flowers. She will be forever missed and admired by all who knew and loved her. She had zest for life and was a light to all she met.
