REID, ELAMORE FRANCIS

May 13, 1949 - August 25, 2023

Elamore Francis Reid passed on August 25, 2023 at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, at the age of 74 years.

Elamore is the son of the late Esther (Reid) Compton, and step father Noah Compton. He leaves to mourn his stepfather, Noah; two siblings: Kevin Welcher and Vivian Compton as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. 

There will be a memorial service held at the Apostolic church in Roddickton to be announced at a later date.

SHEPPARD, HEPSEY

Hepsey was born August 6,1940 to Jacob & Sarah Fanny Cunard of Brig Bay. She married Heber Sheppard and made a home in Brig Bay and raised a family. She was known and loved by many. She passed peacefully on Sept 11, 2023 at Curtis Memorial Hospital St. Anthony at the age of 83 with loving family by her side.

 She leaves to Mourn, her son: Myles (Cindy); daughter: Paula (Wade); a very special niece: Tannis (Stedman Jr.); grandchildren: Scott, Jake, Calletta, Bobby, Brittany; as well as a great-grandchildren Genah, Jason, Kain, Kaleigh, ; Siblings: Eli, Eric (Ann) & Terry; and a large extended family who loved her dearly.

Hepsey is predeceased by her husband: Heber; son: Bob (Alma); grandson: Jeff; Siblings: Grant (Elsie) MaryAnn (Eric) Wallace (Rita) Hubert, Matilda, Issac, Elizabeth (Donald); as well as many other in-laws.

The family would like to send a special thank-you to the staff of the Curtis Hospital in St. Anthony for their wonderful and compassionate care, we deeply appreciate all that you have done.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will soon be announced for The Church of the Advent in Plum Point.

TWYNE, BLANCHE (Nee Moores)

December 2, 1948 - August 26, 2023

Blanche Was born on December 2, 1948 in Forteau, Labrador to the parents of the late Thomas and Martha Moores.

After completing high school, she moved to Grandfalls where she obtained her certificate as an LPN. After nursing in several outport villages in Labrador, she moved to St Anthony in 1970, it was there where she met George Twyne the love of her life.

She was then blessed with two beautiful children Colinda and Lenny, whom she loved unconditionally. Blanche devoted her life to her career, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and to many many more. To them she was their loving aunt B.

Her respect for nature was passed along to all through countless adventures. Her smile, her laugh, her love for life will continue on forever with her countless surviving family, friends and those whose lives she touched .

Blanche leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, Her children: Colinda (Warren), Lenny (Lorie); Her grandchildren: Rikkie, David, Rikita; and her darling great grandchildren: Peyton and Drayden; Brother: Richmond'; Sister: Thelma (Hubert), as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

She was pre deceased by her late husband: George Twyne; her parents: Martha and Thomas Moores; her brother: Harry Moores; Her parents in law Herbert and Cinderella Twyne; her sister in laws: Judy Moores, Alma Francis Twyne, Elsie Moores; Brothers in law: Barry Newell, Robert Small, Stafford Cooper, Alonzo Twyne, as well as many other extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM from the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Interment to follow in the United Cemetery.

WAY, IVY

February 28, 1955 - August 27, 2023

Ivy passed away August 27, 2023 at the age of 68 years.

She was a hardworking woman who loved her family dearly. She is loved and missed beyond measure.

Ivy leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, her husband of 42 years, Stewart Way; Daughter: Tana Way; Grandson/Son: Jaden Way; Grandsons: Jagger Coles, Jaxon Coles; Brother: Kirby (Marion); Sister: Phoebe (the late Baxter Hughes), as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

She is predeceased by her Son: Darryl Way; Parents: George and Una Coates; Brothers: Ross, Stan, and Winston; Sister: Hazareth.

Visitation to take place from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Lower Cove beginning the afternoon of Friday, September 1, 2023, with the family service to take place at 7:30 PM. The Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 2, 2023 with Rev. Vernon Short officiating. Interment to follow.

KELLOWAY, HENRY

June 7, 1934—August 21, 2023

On June 7, 1934 Henry was born to Garfield and Dinah Kelloway, he was the 4th of 5 children.

Henry enjoyed the outdoors from an early age. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with whoever would go along. He also liked picking berries with his sister-in-law, Jackie.

Henry moved to Main Brook at the young age of 8. At the age of 31 he met the love of his life, Gladys Roberts. Together they had 4 kids. When the oldest granddaughter was born, they fell in love with her and took her as their second daughter.

On August 21, 2023, God decided it was time for Henry to take his heavenly home. Forever and always in our hearts, until we meet again.

He leaves to cherish memories his Wife: Gladys Kelloway; Children: David (Tammy) Kelloway, Yvonne Kelloway, Ernest (Angela) Kelloway, Andy Kelloway & Pansy Kelloway; 2 Children away from Home: David & Gloria Gibbons; Grandkids: Dwayne (Patricia), Dillon, Carson, Georgina (Dwayne), Ryan; Great-grandkids: Monica, Annabelle, Aurora; Sister-in-law: Joy Kelloway; nieces and nephews, as well as the Roberts family and many more extended family and friends.

BARTLETT, WILLIAM (BILL) FREEMAN

Passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born on Quirpon Island on April 11, 1931 to Effie Mae Laundry (nee Bartlett). Bill married the love of his life, Mabel Gillingham on November 9, 1956. Together they welcomed and raised a family of 8 children, 5 girls and 3 boys.

Bill worked many jobs over the years including: fishing, master carpentry, and mason layer. In other words, he was a “Jack of all trades”. He did whatever it took to provide for his family. If we had to name all the jobs and places he worked the list would be a mile long.

He was definitely an historical man who would tell anyone who would listen about the history of Quirpon and Quirpon Island. He loved to tell about the Royal Canadian Air Force Base that was near Cape Bauld. His folklore and history knowledge was phenomenal. He was often sought out by many media personnel such as CBC Radio and the CBC television show Land and Sea which relied on him, particularly for the episode “Which Way To Quirpon”. He also had many archeologists and historians from around the world seeking his knowledge of the local history and folklore.

In his retirement years he took up the hobby of building replicas of the Cape Bauld Lighthouse and Newfoundland dories. These too were sought by people around the world.

He met, invited, and entertained all who donned his doorstep by singing his own written songs that the performed himself on his many musical instruments.

Bill leaves to mourn: his loving wife of 66 years, Mabel Bartlett (nee Gillingham); Children: Margaret Winter (Bruce), Terry (Sadie Carroll), Eugene (Maria), Karen Patey (Enos), Marilyn Earle (Wayne), Dean (Susan), Rynette (Mike McCarthy), Frances (Chris Phillips); Grandchildren: Greg, Lisa, Bobby, Jessica, Keith, Melissa, Jennifer, T.J., Stephen, Dean Jr., William, Andrew, Jennilee, Brian, Jamie, Keira, Kaden; as well as 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; Siblings: Jessie Ivany, Roland Laundry, Calvin (Vivian) Laundry, Clayton (Dianne) Laundry; extended family: Maxiene and Ed Sumner, Sheila Broydell, Ida and Bob Haesler, Rae and Bruce Bedford; In-laws: Annie Wiseman, Edgar Gillingham, Jack (Edna) Gillingham, Doris Gillingham, Jessie Gillingham, Prentzelene Laundry, Ola Richards, as well as other extended family and friends.

He is predeceased by his Mother, Effie Mae Laundry (nee Bartlett); Mother and Father in-law: Charles and Fannie Gillingham; very special Aunt and Uncle: Joshua and Violet Bartlett; Brothers: Ches and Albert Laundry, Wayne Bartlett, Leonard Broydell; Sisters: Dinah Richards, Claudia Mercer, Verna Luikert; In-laws: Harry Ivany, Shirley Laundry, Gladys and Harry Woodland, Fred Wiseman, Joyce Gillingham, Fraser Gillingham, and Maurice Gillingham.

WILLIAMS, JAMES

March. 11, 1954 – August. 10, 2023

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of the late James Williams share the sad news of his passing at Straits of Bell Isle Hospital on August. 10 2023 at the age of 69. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends.

James was born to John and Susanna Williams on March 11 1954 on Current Island. He was one of his fourteen siblings. He married the love of his life Cornelia Williams on February 13th 1976 and together they raised three daughters.

James will be forever remembered and sadly missed. James leaves to mourn: his beloved wife Cornelia, daughters Tonya (Marcus), Trudy (Jamie), Tara-Lynn (Billy): Grandchildren Jemma (Christopher), Jorden, Jamie-lee, Bailee, and James: Great-Grandchildren Noah. Siblings Stanley (Bessie), Cora (Melvin), Edith (Kirby), Ruby (Gerald), In-Laws Ivy (Wade), Philomena (Abe), George (Barb), along with several nieces, nephews and a large circle of family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Susanna, sisters Hazareth (Arch), Virginia (Ches), along with seven other siblings deceased at a young age. In laws Elias and Rita. Along with his nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Strait of Bell Isle Health Centre and Curtis Memorial Hospital staff for their care during his illness. Special thanks to Bonnie and Helen at the chemo center at Curtis Memorial.

James will be fondly remembered for his strength, love, courage and cheerful soul to all that knew him.

LARKIN, STEPHEN THOMAS

June 28, 1942 - July 28, 2023

Passed peacefully away at Western Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook, Stephen Larkin at the age of 81 years.

Steve grew up in Wild Bight. Over the years he had a few jobs, he was a plumber, fisherman and a truck driver. Two of his favourite things were walking and berry picking in his younger years.

He leaves to mourn his Brothers: Howard (Gladys), Jim (Gurty); Sister: Levenia (Vince) Hedderson; Sister-in-law: Karen Larkin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Stephen is predeceased by his parents: Erastuis and Edith Larkin; sisters: Elizabeth (William) Elliott, Winnie (Harrison) Woodward; and brother: Martin.

Special thanks to the nurses and doctors at the I.C.U. on the 4th floor at Western Memorial for their care and compassion, allowing us to visit and phone anytime, as well as keeping us informed across the miles, thank you.

At Steve’s request cremation has taken place. He will be laid to rest at the Wild Bight cemetery at a later date.

DREDGE, ISABELLA

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness and broken hearts, that the family of Isabella Dredge, share the sad news of her passing on August 4, 2023 at the age of 59. She passed peacefully away at the Curtis Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.

Isabella was born on January 11, 1964, to Maxwell and Marie Williams of Pond Cove. She started dating the love of her life and best friend Stephen Dredge in 1980 and they were married on August 19, 1989.

Isabella will be forever remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 34 years Stephen Dredge, Mother Marie Williams, Sisters Nina Williams (Martin), Maxine McLean (Floyd), Mother and Father in-law Edith and Issac Dredge, sister’s in-law Minnie Gibbons (Ted), Jackie Taylor (Wayne), Myrtle Susan Gould (Martin), brother in-law Martin Dredge (Nina). Nieces and Nephews; Travis Taylor, Nikita Mailman (Josh), Franchesca Taylor (Hunter), Spencer Gould (Alison), Nash McLean and Mackenzie Gould. Great Niece Sophie Mailman, Great Nephew Hayden Taylor, Special Aunts Jane and Peggy, Special Cousin Misty, Special Little Girl Isabella Rose Corbin and a Large circle of family and friends.

Isabella was predeceased by her daddy Maxwell Williams, sister Sarah Jane Williams, grandparents Ida and George Williams and Isaac and Sarah Jane Gibbons, brother-in-law Bill Taylor.

September 17th, 1928 - August 2nd, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Thomas Parrill announce his passing at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on August 2nd, 2023 at the age of 94 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to John and Elizabeth Parrill on September 17th, 1928 in Eddies Cove East and was the youngest of eight siblings. He married the love of his life Mary Elizabeth Applin on April 9th, 1953 and together they raised four daughters.

He leaves to mourn daughters Judy (Kevin), Virginia (Gordon), Joy (Guy), and Ellen (David); grandchildren Rochelle (Morley), Melissa (Chad), Gregory (Tiffany), Tanya (George), Danica (Ashley), and Dominique (Wilga); great grandchildren Jessica, Madison, Nathan, Emma, Akira, Emily, Brooklyn, Harlow, Grace, Sky, Averee, and Larissa. In laws Irene, Sybil, Naomi, Donna, Edna, Rachel and Dulcie, along with several nieces and nephews and a large circle of family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary Elizabeth, parents, John and Elizabeth, in laws Ellen Applin, and William and Eliza Applin: brothers Albert (Laura), Roy (Hazel); sisters Virginia (Jim), Bessie (Jim), Eliza (George Henry), Margaret (Ross), and Goldie (Levi).

Visitation to take place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony beginning the evening of Thursday, August 3, 2023 open daily with the exception of the Sunday Morning Church Service at 11 AM on August 6, 2023. the family service will be held at 7pm august 6 Followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am on Monday, August 7, 2023 with Rev. Arthur Kinsella officiating. Interment to follow in the Pines Cove Community Cemetery.
