Dale was born in Main Brook on February 12, 1957 to Leonard James and Louise Effie Hedderson. Dale lived in Main Brook until the age of 15, when she moved to St. Anthony to work and attend college. Dale met her best friend and companion, Don, in November, 1974. Dale worked 23 years with the School Board and continued her career at Shears Building Supplies. Dale enjoyed her walks and outdoors down the bay. Together, both Dale and Don spent their time enjoying their cabin. Dale marveled at the beauty of her flowers, she always had a passion for her garden and she always had the biggest and brightest flowers; just like her heart. On the morning of April 11, 2020 Dale passed peacefully away after a sudden and short illness at the age of 63. Dale is survived by her lifetime companion of 46 happy years, Don Milley. Her mother Louise, Sister Fay (Alwin), Brothers; Rennie (Sheila), Ralph (Sandra), Eddie, Fabian (Phyllis), nieces and nephews; Sarah (Johnathan), Ian (Kelly), Krystal (Dylan), Chad, Ryan (Jodi), Bobby, Brittany, Ashley; her great nieces and nephews; Camryn, Cali, Maddie, Noah, Lucas, Lexie, Levon, Kia and Kaden. In laws: Carl and Pearl, Greg (Judy), Lynette (Derrick); nieces and nephews; Curtis (Sarah), Nancy (Mike), Kirk, Kyle, Scott, great-niece Maddie. Dale is predeceased by her father Leonard James Hedderson. Dale’s fun, wit, laughter and love for us all will be sadly missed. Passed away April 9, 2020 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 71, we wish we could have been at his side as he passed. Frank will be sadly missed by his Wife, Alice; Son, Shane (Lesley); 2 grandchildren that he dearly loved, Karina and Kade (pops little big man); Brothers, Andrew (Barb), Pierce (Joyce), Monty (Linda), Hoppy, Owen (Hazel); Sisters, Blanche, Donna (Abe), Pansy (Bob); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends. LODER, PHYLLIS JEAN
November 21, 1925 - April 7, 2020
It is with Sadness and blessings we announce the quiet passing of Phyllis Jean (King) Loder, on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 in her 94th year. Mr. And Mrs. Loder married in Cooks Hr. on August 31, 1945, and she soon became a loving fisherman’s wife, working side by side with Mr. Loder, at the fish, in the woods, and whatever else needed to be done, all while raising their five sons. She enjoyed the simple things in life; going to church, making quilts, knitting hundreds of pairs of socks to give away, baking the best pies, cooking the best soup, and of course “going for a ride.” But most of all, she loved berry picking, especially if it included a boil up with a camp fire and a rooting stick. Anywhere, anytime, any kind of berries, she was ready....she even picked a few berries this past summer at the sweet age of 93. She loved traveling on long trips to visit her sons, and all her little ones, who she let help with making bread, and making pies and cookies. She was always happy in the outdoors and enjoyed going to the cabin, and sitting out by the fire; playing trouble and doing puzzles...if it was at Bruce’s cabin, she enjoyed hearing him play and sing... Of course, she wouldn’t have done any of this if her hair wasn’t done just right! Even though she loved to travel, she loved coming home more; to the house she lived in for 70 plus years with the man who had won her heart. She was so happy when her sons came home, and her grandchildren, and great grandchildren visited... She didn’t care how many came, there was no shortage of food, and she loved to cook it. She was quite content to live in her house, right next door to Al and Wavey, who were always there for her (thankfully). She was a woman of tremendous faith, and was happy to be joining Mr. Loder at last. She peacefully went to her heavenly home to the sweet sound of Bruce singing, Francis praying, and Eli, Cyril and Allan, by her side. Pre-deceased by her loving husband, Seymour Alexander, in 2001, she leaves to mourn, with lots of memories, five sons, Eli (Judy), Francis (Anita), Cyril (Mildred), Allan (Wavey) and Bruce (Joan): 14 grandchildren, Nancy, Jill, John, Tammy, Marsha, Dale, Dion, Michael, Terry, Angie, Lisa, Susan, B.J, and Robert; 25 great grandchildren, Peyton, Kristen, Nate, Noah, Sarah, Katie, James, Benjamin, Evan, Ethan, Brayden, Olivia, Reese, Magnus, Brandon and Jack, Ella, Henry, Stephen, Laura, William, Silas, Ezri, Adah, Jamin; one great great-granddaughter, Victoria Rose; Sister Mary Taylor and a large circle of family and friends, especially Evelyn, her good friend. She was pre-deceased by her parents Elihu and Gladys King; Sisters Hazel, Janet, Ruth, and Brother Maurice. Graveside services took place on Friday, April 10, 2020. Passed away suddenly but peacefully at home with her Mom by her side. She leaves to mourn with fond and beautiful memories her Mother Sheila, Stepdad Bob. Siblings Glennis (Jeff), Twin sister Crista, Keith, Derek (Michelle). Large circle of nieces and nephews, family, friends and her special home care worker Kayla Bastone. She is Pre-deceased by her Dad Wayne and her Nan and Pop Reardon (Hilda and Ambrose). To know Candice was to love her. She spent her days painting, doing puzzles and playing on her iPad. She will be remembered by her loving heart, kind soul and contagious smile.

SHe was predeceased by her late husband, Neville; Son, Craig; and Son in law, Lauren Gaslard. Curtis passed away peacefully on March 29, 2020, in his home surrounded by his children, grandchildren and fur baby. Curtis was born in 1933 in Green Island Cove, Newfoundland to Austin and Eliza Mitchelmore. Curtis married Naomi Mugford in 1954; together, they had 3 children and they created a loving home for their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and fur baby. He will be remembered for his work ethic and sense of humor. He leaves behind his loving Wife Naomi; children Delilah (Harold) Rose, Rebecca ( late Harvey) Mitchelmore, Wade Sr (Sarah) Mitchelmore; grandchildren Kim (Trent), Ken (Rosie), Della (Marc), Wade Jr (Marissa); great-grandchildren Trisha, Tia, Kendra, AJ, Kira, Karley, Weston and William; his best friend his fur baby, Charlee; sisters Cora Mitchelmore, Nellie (Norman) Parrill and Eliza ( late John) Parrill; and sister-in-law Marina (Albert) Applin . He will be missed by them all. The family extends its deepest gratitude to his personal care workers Carmel, Jenette, Janet and Cindy who provided him with the best care and compassion in his last few years. We also thank the nurses, doctors and paramedics at the Strait of Belle Isle Healthcare center who helped care for and provide us with guidance during his final weeks so he was able to stay at home with his family and friends. As per Curtis’ request cremation has been entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony. Due to the Public Health Advisory of COVID-19 no visitation or ceremony will take place at this time. A visitation and celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
MCGRATH, GENEVIEVE DORCAS
Genevieve Dorcas McGrath of Grandois, born on July 5, 1938 to Ambrose and Isabella McGrath (nee Bromley). Gen passed away peacefully on March 26, 2020 at the John M. Grey Centre at the age of 81. Gen had a love of crochet and quilt making, and loved a good game of darts or bingo in her younger years. Leaving to mourn is her brother Ambrose (Maureen), sister in law’s Nora, Ida and Doreen, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Gen was predeceased by her parents, Ambrose and Isabella McGrath, brothers John Joe, Leo and Timothy, sister Maude Whiteway, and brother in law John Whiteway. At the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will schedule a memorial service at a later date this year. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff of the John M. Grey Centre for the kindness they have shown to her and our family during her time there. PILGRIM, MELVIN EARL
March 17, 1960 - March 19, 2020
Melvin Pilgrim was born in Main Brook to Bessie and Benjamin Pilgrim. He and his twin brother arrived on March 17, 1960 and were inseparable throughout their lives. Melvin was a hardworking and conscientious man working for the NLESD. He and his brother approached everything together. They were mainstays of the church and participated in all facets of church life. He loved woods work, hunting, berry picking, gardening, and above everything his family. On November 29, 1985 Melv married Karen Canning of Englee and together they raised two daughters. When the girls were grown and had left home they took on foster care, caring for three foster children. On March 19th, Melv suddenly passed away. He leaves to mourn his wife Karen, daughters Amy (Andrew) and Amelia (Jonathan) and Grandson Logan. He also leaves to mourn his twin brother, Mervin (Wavey); Siblings, Leander (Isabella), Alice, Druscilla (Doug), Stella (Dennis), Herman (Gladys), Elsie (Alwin) Cassie, Belinda (Brian), Triffie (Edward) and Margie (Yasim), as well as aunt Lizzie Richards, sisters-in-law Joy and Shirley, nieces and nephews as well as parents-in-law Wilson and Lillian Canning, special friend George Carroll and many other extended family members and friends. Melv was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Bessie Pilgrim, Brother, Stanley Pilgrim, nephew Clayton, nieces Roxanne, Rosanna, Julia and Bonnie, and brothers-in-law Kenneth and Thomas. Visitation to take place from the United Church in Main Brook beginning Saturday evening and will continue daily until the funeral on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Passed suddenly but peacefully away at the health science Center in St Johns at the age of 85 years. He leaves with many beautiful memories, his children; Chris (Krista), Dan (Carol), Sheila (Craig); Grandchildren, Benjamin, Halle, Anna, Ellen and Stephen; Sister In law, Effie; Nephew/friend, Lawrence, as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years Marion (Way), infant grandson(Dan & Carol), Parents William and Matilda Coombs, Brothers George C, George Y, Kenneth, Wallace, Hubert C, Hubert Y, Jack, Absalom, and baby Charlie. Sisters Una, Sarah Fanny, and Mary Ann. He was a gentle fun loving good man. Visitation will take place from the Anglican Church in Plum Point beginning the evening of Friday, March 20, 2020 and will continue on Saturday, March 21, 2020. The funeral will be by invitation only. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Deacon Short officiating. Interment to follow in the Pond Cove Anglican Cemetery.
