MCGRATH, GENEVIEVE DORCAS

Genevieve Dorcas McGrath of Grandois, born on July 5, 1938 to Ambrose and Isabella McGrath (nee Bromley). Gen passed away peacefully on March 26, 2020 at the John M. Grey Centre at the age of 81. Gen had a love of crochet and quilt making, and loved a good game of darts or bingo in her younger years. Leaving to mourn is her brother Ambrose (Maureen), sister in law’s Nora, Ida and Doreen, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Gen was predeceased by her parents, Ambrose and Isabella McGrath, brothers John Joe, Leo and Timothy, sister Maude Whiteway, and brother in law John Whiteway. At the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will schedule a memorial service at a later date this year. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff of the John M. Grey Centre for the kindness they have shown to her and our family during her time there. PILGRIM, MELVIN EARL

March 17, 1960 - March 19, 2020

Melvin Pilgrim was born in Main Brook to Bessie and Benjamin Pilgrim. He and his twin brother arrived on March 17, 1960 and were inseparable throughout their lives. Melvin was a hardworking and conscientious man working for the NLESD. He and his brother approached everything together. They were mainstays of the church and participated in all facets of church life. He loved woods work, hunting, berry picking, gardening, and above everything his family. On November 29, 1985 Melv married Karen Canning of Englee and together they raised two daughters. When the girls were grown and had left home they took on foster care, caring for three foster children. On March 19th, Melv suddenly passed away. He leaves to mourn his wife Karen, daughters Amy (Andrew) and Amelia (Jonathan) and Grandson Logan. He also leaves to mourn his twin brother, Mervin (Wavey); Siblings, Leander (Isabella), Alice, Druscilla (Doug), Stella (Dennis), Herman (Gladys), Elsie (Alwin) Cassie, Belinda (Brian), Triffie (Edward) and Margie (Yasim), as well as aunt Lizzie Richards, sisters-in-law Joy and Shirley, nieces and nephews as well as parents-in-law Wilson and Lillian Canning, special friend George Carroll and many other extended family members and friends. Melv was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Bessie Pilgrim, Brother, Stanley Pilgrim, nephew Clayton, nieces Roxanne, Rosanna, Julia and Bonnie, and brothers-in-law Kenneth and Thomas. Visitation to take place from the United Church in Main Brook beginning Saturday evening and will continue daily until the funeral on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Rev. COOMBS, BENJAMIN

March 17, 1934 – March 16, 2020

Passed suddenly but peacefully away at the health science Center in St Johns at the age of 85 years. He leaves with many beautiful memories, his children; Chris (Krista), Dan (Carol), Sheila (Craig); Grandchildren, Benjamin, Halle, Anna, Ellen and Stephen; Sister In law, Effie; Nephew/friend, Lawrence, as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years Marion (Way), infant grandson(Dan & Carol), Parents William and Matilda Coombs, Brothers George C, George Y, Kenneth, Wallace, Hubert C, Hubert Y, Jack, Absalom, and baby Charlie. Sisters Una, Sarah Fanny, and Mary Ann. He was a gentle fun loving good man. Visitation will take place from the Anglican Church in Plum Point beginning the evening of Friday, March 20, 2020 and will continue on Saturday, March 21, 2020. The funeral will be by invitation only. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Deacon Short officiating. Interment to follow in the Pond Cove Anglican Cemetery.

Walter Williams of Eddies Cove East passed away tragically at the age of 88 years old . He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Hazel; Daughters Lillian (Perry) Williams, Beverly Dale (Roger) Veniot ; Granddaughter, Laura (Corey) McLean & Great Grandson Brody, as well as extended family & friends. He is predeceased by his daughters Laura Michelle & baby Williams , his parents Henry & Laura Williams & his brothers , sisters & in laws. PATEY, MAISIE HATTIE

September 7, 1935 - March 14, 2020

Maisie Patey of Quirpon peacefully passed away in the presence of her family at the Curtis Hospital on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the age of 84 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 66 years, Archibald, her children Janet (Paul), Linda Simms (Bruce), Scott (Gwen), David (Laurie), Ivan (Maxine), Nancy Elliott (Martin), Tony (Kathie), Shirley (Kingsley), and Darrell, 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her sisters Edna Randell and Ivy Cassell (Les), her brother Frank Randell (Patsy), her in-laws, Arthur Noseworthy and Blanche Strickland (Ronald). She is predeceased by her son Teddy, her parents David John and Janet Randell, her sisters Maud Pollard, Effie Randell, Clara Ricketts, Shirley Noseworthy and her brothers Adam, Pleman, and Harold. PATEY, GLADYS

March 9, 1952 – March 13, 2020

Gladys Patey peacefully passed away in the presence of family and friends at her home, on Friday March 13. 2020 at the age of 68 years. Gladys leaves to mourn her children; Earl (Kim), Colleen (Rob), Colin (Colleen), Virginia (Cory), Baxter (Christine) and Cheryl; Grandchildren, Shawn, Robbie, Cole, Andrew, Laura, Nathan, Sophia, Gracie & Eryn; Sisters, Stella (Ralph), Elsie (Carl), Nina (Gerald), Millie (Whyman), Pansy (Ross), Triffie (Harrison); Brothers, Donald (Grace), Enos (Karen); Sister-in-law Karen Patey, Leona Cull (Eric); Brother-in-law, Eldon Patey (Cassie); her very special friend Truman Simms- we cannot thank you enough for everything, as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and a large circle of family and friends. Marie Blake passed away peacefully on March 11th 2020 at Shirley’s Haven Personal Care Home in St. Anthony, NL at the age of 87. Left to mourn with loving memories are her children Ruby (Bob), Vincent (Mildred), Audrey (Lawrence), Harry (Sheila), Keith (Bethany), Edna (Wilb) and Neil; her sisters, Doris (Wilson), Jessie and Ella; Daughter-in-law Daphne, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Marie was predeceased by her parents Alice and Harry Ward; husband Garfield Blake; sister Mary (Eddie), brothers George (Caroline), and Wallace (Ethel). Visitation will be held at United Central Church, Quirpon Branch on March 12th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm and will continue on March 13th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. BOYD, DONALD GLENN

August 3, 1950 - March 3, 2020
Passed March 3, 2020 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 69 years. Donald was born on August 3, 1950 as a twin to Dale Boyd, he grew up in St. Anthony. At the age of 12 he started in the band “Snowflakes” for 10 years. He went on to trade school to follow in his Father’s footsteps and became a journeyman in refrigeration. In 1981 he moved to Calgary and worked for the City of Calgary until he retired in 2005. He returned to St. Anthony with his wife, Gloria after retirement. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, His Sons, Joe Boyd (Shannon), Shawn Patey (Corrine), Ed Patey (Beverly); Daughter, Mel Christen (Dan); Grandchildren, Keavey, Avery, Hayley, Max; Great-grandchild, Harley; Siblings, Rosalind, Eric, Dale, and Roger as well as a circle of extended family and friends. Don was predeceased by his wife, Gloria and Parents, Eric Joseph Harvey Boyd and Cecelia Boyd. No public visitation. GAULTON, BERTHA JANE

May 20, 1963 – March 7, 2020
Bertha Jane Gaulton was born in Main Brook on May 20th, 1963 to Walter and Caroline Gaulton. She was one of ten children. Bertha Jane was fun loving and kind. She loved hanging out laundry and spent many hours doing so. She also loved music. Bertha Jane loved going for rides with her brother, Lester to the airport; she loved watching the planes landing and taking off as well as the caribou. Bertha Jane also enjoyed going to the garage for an ice cream that she wasn’t supposed to have and trying to hide it from her caregiver, Alice. She also loved her cat, Fluffy. She is survived by her brothers, Lester and John; Sisters, Holly and Vivian; nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Walter and Caroline; Brothers, Francis and Barry; as well as sisters, Rosemary, Mary, and Penny. Visitation was held from St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Main Brook from where the funeral was held on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Deacon Short officiating. Interment followed.
