Iris was a well known and much loved lady in her community, And she loved Ship Cove with her whole heart. She showed her dedication to the town and its people over the years through her efforts, which were focused and also far reaching. She wanted to see the community cleaned up and preserved for all to enjoy for generations to come. She worked with the government to get improved roads, walking trails, benches, picnic tables and signs. She worked along side the recreation committee to clean up the beaches, and got work for summer students to preserve the history of Ship Cove. From her 35 years as a teacher to later years on the Labrador Grenfell Board she served tirelessly to improve the lot of the people she considered her friends and family. The children she taught were special to her and she never forgot one name. Iris also served her God throughout her life, teaching Sunday school, leading the United Church women, serving on the manse committee to get a permanent minister for the area. She made many friends with the clergy and was always pleased to have them share a meal after Sunday service. Through the years she wore many hats, wrote letters for people, prepared their taxes, tended to the sick as they needed it, but she was most proud to be a mother and grandmother, taking time to travel and visit her children as they scattered around the world, displaying their pictures and praising their accomplishments whenever she had a willing ear. She was a devoted wife of nearly 60 years and Ross and Iris spent very little time apart. She was a force to be reckoned with, a light to her family , friends and community. She will be forever loved and missed. Services overseen By Reverand Sandra Cox of Knox United Church & Reverand Gus Pendleton via Zoom.
