Born in St. Anthony on April 18, 1938 to William and Maude Elliott, Wilbert Wallace Elliott passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2016. He married Juanita Taylor on December 3rd, 1960 and together they raised four children: Diane, Peggy, Jackie, and Danny. Wilbert was a hard working fisherman. When he retired, he took to gardening, as well as playing and singing. His music was a great pastime. He also loved berry picking and cutting wood. He leaves to mourn his Wife Juanita; Children- Dianne (Alonzo), Peggy, Jackie (Marshall), and Danny (Ursula); Grandchildren- Ryan, Robbie, Adam, Melissa, Michelle, and Dylan; Great-Grandchildren Tyler and Paige as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers Chesley, Ross, Kenneth, Ernest; and his sisters Phyllis, and Hazel. Visitation was held at the United Church in Raleigh from where the funeral took place on January 24, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. COMPTON, VELMA JANE
Passed away Peacefully on January 16, 2016 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. Velma was born in Bear Cove, White Bay on September 6th, 1924 to William and Hilda Hollett. She moved to Englee at an early age where she worked at John Reeve, General Store. She later married Albert Compton on October 3rd, 1946. Together they raised six Children; four sons and two daughters. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her Sons Garfield (Mary) Compton (Roddickton), Woodrow (Marilyn) Compton (Spaniards Bay), Dorman (Patricia) Compton (Englee), Leaton (Carolyn) Compton (Deer Lake); Daughters Magretta (Frank) Pilgrim (Roddickton) and Brenda (Gary) Randell (Englee); Sister Rowena Hollett (Gary Reid) (Englee); Brothers Maxwell (Deliah) Hollett (Bay Verte) and George (Sarah) Hollett (New Harbour). She was predeceased by her Husband, Albert Compton; Mother Hilda Hollett; Father William Hollett; and Brother Garfield Hollett. Visitation was held in the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral took place on Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Burton officiating. CARROLL, FRANCIS HERBERT
It is with great sadness that the family of Herbert Carroll announce his passing on January 18, 2016. Herbert was born in Locke's Cove on July 20th, 1943 - he was the oldest child of William & Emily Jane Carroll. He lived in Locke's Cove until he married the love of his life Mamie Williams in 1967. Thatsame year theresidents of Locke's Cove were forced to resettle. Herbert & Mamie then moved to Cook's Harbour where they built their own home and began their family, in 1971 they welcomed their first born daughter Darlene & their second daughter Deanna was born in 1977. They loved life & family so much, but with the birth of their first grandson Jayden Adey in 1999, they experienced a love much greater than life itself. Then, in 2000, they were blessed with a second grandson Dustin Carroll. In, 2010 Herbert was blessed with yet another grandson Justice Adey, which helped him deal with the grief of losing his beloved wife Mamie. Herbert had a very difficult year in 2009, when his loving wife passed away from heart failure on August 9th. Herbert's family was his life, he lived each day making sure his wife, daughters & grandson's were well taken care of. He was a hard working fisherman and the captain of his own fishing VesselThe "Fortune Cape" until the decline in the fishery. On February 22nd, 2011 Herbert was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer & would need to undergo emergency surgery. He had a very difficult recovery and was forced to move out of his own home, he moved in with his youngest daughter Deanna & her family in March 2011. The next few years he continued to battle several rounds of chemotherapy and the return of his cancer. Herbert passed away peacefully at his daughter's home on January 18th, 2016 at 11:12pm, surrounded by his family who will miss him for the rest of their lives. Herbert leaves to mourn his loving daughters - Darlene Carroll (Deon Curl) & Deanna Adey (David Adey); his grandsons - Dustin Carroll, Jayden & Justice Adey; mother - Emily Jane Carroll; Sister - Girty Larkin (James); Brother - Maxwell Carroll (Barbara); Sister-in-law - Annie Williams; Brother-in-law - Roland Williams (Marg) as well as a large number of nieces and nephews, friends and family. Donna was born in St. Anthony to Sadie and Jehu Parsons. She leaves to mourn her loving partner Karla Loder, her daughters Emily and Hannah and their dad, Morey Hillier. She also leaves her mom Sadie and sister Joan Pynn, niece Chelsea Pynn and nephew Jeremy Pynn and all of the Hillier family. She is predeceased by her father, Jehu Parsons. Donna's life was dedicated to her family and the brightest lights in her life were her daughters. Donna spent her work life with Labrador Grenfell Health and leaves many loyal friends and coworkers in the dental department. She was a dedicated employee and was proud of the work she did there. Hers is a light that went out much too soon but the glow from her life will long shine bright through those who remember her. Visitation was held at Kerry M. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mabel Caines (King) announce her passing at the John M Gray Centre in St Anthony on Saturday Jan 16, 2016 at the age of 70. Mabel will be sadly missed by her loving children Mark (Shona), Ralph (Augustine) and Theresa (Eric) and her grandchildren Matthew, Noah and Olivia. Mabel also leaves to mourn her sisters Nina, Shirley, Linda and her brother Wayne and a large circle of family and friends. Age: 84
Biography: Dola was born on July 17, 1931 to James and Ann Maria Allingham. She had 6 brothers and 1 sister. She married Stephen Carnell Sr. They had 10 children and raised a grandson; Sibyl, Edna, Nancy, Gloria, Mary, Barbara, Carol, Stephen, Rona, Dawn and Gary (grandson). As a young woman she worked in the hospitals in St. Anthony and Flower's Cove. Later, for about 20 years she worked in the Fish Plant in Flower's Cove. She often recalled the many great years she worked there with the "women in the plant" and told fondly remembered stories. Dola was happiest when surrounded by her children and their families. Cooking meals and baking for her husband, children and grandchildren were things that she took great pride in and she was at her happiest times when doing things for her family. Berry picking, knitting, word searches, and weekly bingo were some of her favourite activities. Dola travelled to Alberta, North West Territories and Labrador to see where her children had settled down. In recent years she loved going home to her favourite place, Flower's Cove for summer and Christmas vacations. Her puppy, Brandi provided her with 13 years of companionship and joy. Dola passed peacefully away on January 11, 2016 surrounded by a large number of family and friends, of whose lives she touched dearly. Special thank you to Dr. Woollam and all the Staff at Labrador Health Centre. There are no words to express how much Mom thought of you all. The kindness and care you all provided to our Mom over the years is appreciated beyond measure - The Carnell family. BUSSEY, RICKY JAMES
Ricky James was born in St. Lunaire to Gordon and Marjorie Bussey on January 25th, 1949. After the passing of his father, Ricky and his brother Wilson, carried on in the family fishery. After the closure of the fishery in 1992 he worked with Burden's Trucking offloading fishing boats.
He was a hard worker, and a fun loving person. He loved gardening, berry picking, hunting and fishing, and playing games. He is survived by 1 brother, Wallace; 3 sisters, Helen, Selma (Wilfred), Irene (Velmer) and a large number of nephews and nieces that he was very fond of. He was also surrounded by a large circle of friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The funeral took place at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Wince was born on Oct. 7, 1940 to Absalom and Elizabeth Chambers of Blue Cove. He grew up in Blue Cove with his twelve brothers and sisters: Ruth, Stedman, Curtis, Stella, William, Virginia, Caroline, Jane, Wilfred, Sophia, Doreen and… a brother from another mother, Absalom. Wince met and married Sandra Pittman of Blue Cove on May 19, 1967. They had three children; Pamie (Eddie), Winston Churchill Junior (Cora), Shawn (Caroline) along with two grandchildren, Liam and Reanna who he dearly loved. Wince loved being a fisherman, he loved music and playing his guitar. His favorite color was green and his favorite hockey team was the Montreal Canadians. Wince passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. He will be sadly missed by a large circle of family and friends. We would like to thank our family from St. Mary’s Bay, Point Leamington, and L’Anse-au-Loup who traveled to be with us.We would like to express our sincerest appreciation for all your love and support during this difficult time. It is with great sadness that the family of Ruby Coombs announce her sudden passing at her home on Sunday, January 10, 2016. Ruby was born on Current Island on September 25, 1941 - the youngest child of Amelia and Walter Coombs. She lived on Current Island until she married Wilfred Coombs in 1964 and moved to Shoal Cove West. Ruby and Wilfred had two sons, Wilfred William (Bill) and John and one could truthfully say that Wilf and the two boys were her whole life. Ruby worked at the fish plant for all her working career until she retired. Ruby lost her beloved husband, Wilfred, to cancer in 1988 and from that time on, she was devoted to her sons. Ruby wasn't much for being out and about, but she could always be counted on to cook when there was a fund-raiser on the go. Ruby suffered another devastating loss in August, 2013 when her son, Bill, died after a short fight with cancer. She had not recovered from that loss when she lost two sisters within a very short time. Rest in peace, Ruby. She leaves to mourn her son John (Vonnie), daughter-in-law Gloria, sister Virginia (Calvin), and brothers William and George (Mamie), extended family Derek (Jackie) Caines and family, Dottie (Eddie) Blanchard and family, Nicholas (Kristy) Caines and family as well as a large number of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Ruby was predeceased by her husband Wilfred, son Bill, parents Amelia and Walter Coombs, brothers John and Jacob, and sisters Caroline, Matilda, and Myrtle.
