JOHNSON, JOSEPHINE

Passed away at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony on the 4th of January, 2015, Mrs. Josephine Johnson of St. Anthony in her 80th year. Left to mourn her passing are her Sister Phoebe (Ralph), Delena, Victoria (Tex), Brother John (Jean), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends. she was predeceased by her husband Harvey, Parents Walter and Delena Hedderson and Brothers Jerry and Vernon. Visitation took place at the funeral home in st. Anthony, From which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on January 8th, 2015 with Rev'd. Fr. Paul C. Findlay Officiating. Burial followed the service at the Anglican Cemetery, St. Anthony. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.

SIMMS, JOAN BERTHA CAROLINE

Joan was born in St. Anthony on Jan. 29, 1935 to Stella and Sidney Pilgrim of St. Anthony Bight. She married Reginald Simms on May 11, 1955. Together they had two sons, David and Maurice. She retired in December 1996 after working with the International Grenfell Association and Grenfell Regional Health Services for 23 years. Joan was a generous and kind-hearted woman who loved her family. She loved to knit, crochet, pick berries, bake and cook. There was always room for one more at the dinner table. She passed away into peace on the third of January 2015. Left To Mourn: Sons David (Cynthia) and Maurice (Beverly); grandchildren Jason (Catherine), Heather, Shayna, Paul and Ryan; great-grandchildren Joshua, Zachary, Maxx, Charlie (Jason – Charlie’s dad), Dylan, Lucas and Thomas; sisters Jean and Cavell; brother Wayne (Bernette), as well as a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her father Sidney (1988), her mother Stella (1995) and her husband of 59 years, Reg (2014). Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony, after which the funeral service was held at the St. Mary’s Anglican Chruch in St. Anthony with Rev. Fr. Paul C. Findlay officiating. Burial followed the service in the St. Anthony Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard funeral director. 

INGS, AUBREY

Passed away peacefully at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on Jan. 2, 2015 in his 76th year, Mr. Aubrey Garfield Ings. Left to mourn his loss are daughters, Bonnie Pelley (Rick), and Harriet Ings; his sons Grant Saunders (Denise), Trent Ings (Lisa), and Aubrey Ings (Angela); 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and two sisters, Daisy Burden and Josie Rodgers. Visitation took place at the Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony. The funeral service was held at Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jeffery Bessey officiating. Burial followed the service at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director. 

REID, MATTHEW LEVI

Matthew was born in St. Anthony on Jan. 15, 1987. He moved away with his mom to Gander at the age of two years. He made many moves with his military family throughout his childhood years. In December, 2010, Matthew decided to move back home to St. Anthony. In 2011, Matthew met his wife Penney and his stepson Reid Taylor. They began their lives together and were happily married on Nov. 9, 2013. Matthew dearly loved his family and cherished every moment he spent with them. Despite a very difficult year, Matthew and Penney shared a miracle when their beautiful daughter, Isabella, was born. Anyone who knew Matthew knew that he was so proud to be a father. He loved his children, wife and family and his extra special friends unconditionally without question. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Penney; son Reid, daughter Isabella; son Emmanuel (adopted); parents Dawn and Mike Walsh; brother Leo; grandparents Jean and Levi Reid; grandmother Isabella Walsh; grandfather Mike Walsh (Barb), numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, extra special friends Brenda Best and Brad Shattler, the Nicholas family, and a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by a number of grandparents and aunts and uncles on both sides of the family, and especially his great uncle Levi Reid, who Matthew held very dear to his heart. Visitation took place at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service was held At 2:00pm on Saturday, Jan. 3 with Rev. Paul Findlay officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Trust Fund (see Below). Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. One of Matt’s greatest concerns was that his children’s future and education would be taken care of.

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 28th day of December 2014. Mrs. Florence Simms of St. Anthony was in her 84th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Iris(Mike) Ryan, Darlene(David) Williams, Bella(Guy) Krepps, Josalyn Simms-Elliott, Leroy(Laurie) Simms, Melvin Simms, David Simms, Paul (Sherry) Simms, Paula (Rex) Simms, Carolann(Paul) DraJem, Donna(Lynn) Simms St. Onge, Nineteen Grandchildren, Six Great Grandchildren, Brother Stewart (Flora) Letto, Sister Myrtle Jones as well as a large circle of family and friends. She was predeceased by her Husband Arthur Simms, Father Peter Letto, Mother Martha Letto, Brothers Hedley, Ellis, Manuel, Letto, and Sister Dorothy Letto. Visitation was held at the funeral home is St. Anthony from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Friday the 2nd day of January 2015 with Rev’d. Fr. Paul Findlay officiating.  Passed away form this life to the next at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 27th of December, 2014, Mrs. Cinderella Toope of Black Duck Cove in her 66th year. always a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother, she did everything she could for her family, she loved to play cards and pick berry's. Left behind to mourn her loss are Wilson Toope her husband, her daughter Mamie Elle (Randy), Her sons James (Holly), Wilson Jr. her granddaughters Sacha and Brooklyn her grandson Sean, brother Jake (Jane), Sister Caroline (Walter Sr. ). although not old herself, she lived to see the passing of her father Frederick and Mother Mathilda, her father in law James and Mother in law Mary. Visitation was held at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove, From Which the Funeral service was held at 2:00pm on December 31st, 2014 with Rev. Harold Harvey officiating. burial followed the service in the Black Duck Cove Anglican cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. NEWCOMBE, HONORA

Passed away on Dec. 27, 2014, Honora Newcombe, in her 89th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories brothers John (Effie) Scanlon, and Joseph (Marian) Scanlon; sisters Susanne Thynne, Florence Johnson and Rita Offery; and special niece Honora (Carter) Taylor. Also grieving her death while holding fond memories of her life in their hearts, are a wide circle of special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John, parents Joseph and Mary Ann Scanlon and brothers Elias and Jerry. Visitation took place at Sacred Heart Church in Bartlett’s Harbour from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31 with Fr. Britto officiating. Passed away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 24th of December, Mr Raymond Toope of Black Duck Cove in his 77th year. Raymond Leaves to mourn his passing his Daughter Mary Rachel (Bruce), Grandson Raymond (Jackie), Great grandson Ethan, Brothers Jim (Jessie), Jacob, Mark (Emelene), Tom (Dulcie), Walter (Caroline), Sisters Emily, Maria, Brother in law Calvin, Sister in law Virginia, as well as a large circle of family and friends.  Raymond was predeceased by his wife Enid, Parents Virginia, John and Emmanuel, Brothers Jacob, Wilfred, Sisters in law Nina, Vivian, Pauline and kit, Brothers in law Nelson, George, Carl, nephew in law Dolph and parents in law Walter and Maria. Visitation was held at the St. Mary's Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Sunday December 28th 2014 with Rev. KENNEDY, AGNES

Passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 24, 2014, with all her loving family by her side, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, Agnes Kennedy, in her 90th year. She leaves behind with fond and loving memories her sons John Kennedy (Lily) and Rodney Kennedy (Elizabeth); daughter Lorie Kennedy; grandson Perry Kennedy (Chianna); granddaughters Tara Mahar (Jordan), Viki Kennedy (Mark), and April Kennedy; greatgrandsons Jamal Kennedy, and Nathan Kennedy; brother Michael Mahar; sister Isabel Kennedy, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John Kennedy, parents Michael and Catherine Mahar, sisters Evangeline Caines, Mary Ann Mahar, Catherine Mahar and Josephine Mahar, and brothers Christopher Mahar and Peter Mahar. Visitation took place at Our Lady of Grace Church in Bird Cove from where the funeral service was held on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Britto Adaikalam officiating. DECKER, JANIE

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Centre on Dec. 16, 2014, Mrs. Janie Jemima Decker of St. Anthony in her 87th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memoires her son Jim (Seamon); her daughters Ann (Mathew), Patty (Scott), and Allison; her grandchildren Kris, Sarah, Isaac, Ethan, and Levi; great-grandson Kayden as well as a large circle of other family and friends. Janie was the last departing member of her family. Her visitation took place at the funeral home in St. Anthony followed by the funeral service which was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19 with Reverend Dinesh Gomes officiating.
