WELLS, MORGAN KENNETH

January 7, 1937 - May 2, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Morgan Kenneth Wells announce his passing at his home in Pond Cove at the age of 86 years. Morgan leaves to mourn his loving wife, Cecilia (Sissy), of 59 years; daughters, Evelyn (Jim), Gail (Todd). Morgan was born in Brig Bay on January 7th, 1937 to Kenneth and Hannah Wells of Brig Bay where he was raised with his 6 brothers and 2 sisters. On August 15th, 1963 he married the love of his life Cecilia (Toope) of Pond Cove. They started their married life in Brig Bay and shortly after they moved their house to Pond Cove where they raised their 3 daughters. On Tuesday, May 2, 2023 Morgan passed away at his home at the age of 86 years.

Morgan was a very hard worker all his life. He knew what it was like when times were rough. He spent many years as a fisherman in the summer and a woodsman in the winter. Morgan enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, going in over the hills to visit ‘Marg’s Lookout’, using his ride on lawn mower, riding his skidoo and quad, he loved music and enjoyed playing the mouth organ. He spent many hours watching tv; westerns, heavy equipment on discovery and anything else he desired. More than anything he loved having a yarn and having lots of visitors. This of course would be a good reason for Sissy to fix a lunch and have her famous pies and homemade bread on hand.

He always said “there is no such thing as strangers, cause when you meet someone you got another friend.”

Always loved and sadly missed by wife Cecilia (Sissy), daughter Eve Dempster (Jim), Gail Coombs (Todd), Grandchildren: Janice Hughes (Chad), Jimmy Dempster (Colleena), Morgan Coombs, Megan Coombs; Great Grandchildren: Julie Dempster (Dylan), Jordan Dempster (Madison), Ace Dempster; Sisters: Mildred Biggin, Ida Genge (Elgin); Brother: Sterling Wells (Eileen); In Laws: Ronald Toope (Phyllis), Stanley Toope (Kay), Ren Toope (Peggy), Virginia Chambers (Baxter), Gary Toope (Linda), Ivy Toope, Alfred Toope (Linda), Clyde Toope (Elizabeth), Helen Wells, Darlene Wells; Special Nephew: Riley Genge; Special Niece: Natalie Hughes; and a large circle of nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Morgan is predeceased by his Daughter: Meryll Wells; Grandson: Anthony Morgan Dempster; Parents: Kenneth and Hannah Wells; Parents in Law: Bill and Evelyn Toope; Brothers: Bill Wells (Lydia), Isaac Wells (Marion), Howard Wells, Tom Wells (Doris), and Claude Wells, Frank Bennett (Agnes); In Laws: Graydon Toope, Tom Genge, and Walter Biggin.

September 22, 1995 - April 20, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Catherine (Katie) Frances Buchanan announce her passing at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on April 20, 2023. She was in her 27th year.

Katie was born to Louise Reid and Andrew Patey on September 22, 1995. She came into this world early weighing only 4lb 7oz but she was a fighter from the beginning. Her brother often remarked that her red hair was her warning label and that anyone who got in her way should have known better.

Sometimes you know you’ve met someone special and that’s how most people felt when meeting our Katie. She was non-verbal but somehow you knew she had an awesome sense of humor and had the greatest laugh ever.

Katie loved music and dancing; she adored beef jerky and swimming. She loved to people-watch but hated it when people would touch her hair. She was curious by nature and loved to go for drives to see the sites.

In later years, she had been living independently with a wonderful team of homecare workers that took care of her.
