SANSFORD, CHARLES GORDON

June 21, 1947 - February 19, 2023

Charles Gordon was born to Lilly and Henry Sansford on June 21, 1947; a brother to June and Triffie. In 1967 he met the love of his life, Eileen, and one year later they were married. They were blessed with two children; Gordon Jr. and Angela. He worked hard to give them a good life.

Gordon was a very patient man and it showed, as there was always a skidoo or bike in his work shed being repaired for some teenager. He was a great friend, counselor, and served his Lord and Savior.

On Sunday, February 19, 2023 Gordon passed at his home in Brig Bay surrounded by his loving family at the age of 75 years.

He leaves to mourn with many found memories, his Wife, Eileen; Children: Gordon (Joanne), Angela (Ramsey); Grandchildren: Amanda (Travis), Reiley, Adam, Jessica, Shavonne, Chad; Great-grandson: Avery as well as many relatives, friends, and our special girl- a daughter by choice- Rhoda.

Gordon is predeceased by his Parents: Lilly and Henry Sansford; Sister: June (Michael) Ianuzzi; Nephew: Mark Stratton; In-laws: Martha and Simeon Ford.

Visitation to take place at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 and Wednesday, February 22, 2023. The funeral service will take place from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. Terry Coates officiating on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow.

Wilson Toope

July 13th, 1946 - February 16th, 2023

76 Years

It is with great sadness that the family of Wilson Toope has to announce the peaceful passing from this life to the next at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St Anthony on the 16th day of February, 2023. Mr. Wilson Toope was in his 76th year. Always a loving husband, father and grandfather. He did everything he could for his family. Wilson loved his family more than anything in this world. He was a family man and worked hard all his life to ensure that his wife and children were taken care of. He enjoyed playing cards, cutting wood, moose hunting and spending time with his family. Left behind to mourn his loss are his children daughter Mamie Ellen (Randy) Sons James (Holly), Wilson Jr. Granddaughter’s Sacha(Anthony), Brooklyn Grandson Sean His brothers Whyman (Emeline), Nicholas (Ivy), Leslie (Edith).

His sisters Cicely (Selby), Sharon (Reginald) and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Wilson is predeceased by his loving wife Cinderella his parents James and Mary. Sisters Margaret, Elva, Shallottie and brothers Isaac and Abraham.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the thoughtful and caring staff at the dialysis unit as will as the emergency and ICU staff at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St Anthony.

CAINES, PHYLLIS JEAN

With heavy hearts the family of the late Phyllis Caines would like to announce her passing on February 7th 2023 at the age of 74. Phyllis passed away at Curtis Memorial Hospital after a long battle with dementia.

Phyllis Jean Gaskin was born in Moncton, NB on December 8th 1948 to Ronald and Beryl Gaskin. She grew up on a farm outside Salisbury, NB which played a large part in her love of the outdoors and animals. After finishing nursing school in Montreal, Phyllis worked in several provinces before finally taking a job as a nurse in Flowers Cove. It was here she met her husband, George Caines with whom she spent the following 48 years and raised two sons, Brian and Trevor.

Phyllis enjoyed her job as a nurse and was loved and respected by both her patients and co-workers for her caring nature and endless patience. She was also heavily involved in the local Anglican Church and played the organ in various churches in the parish for regular services and special occasions. She will be dearly missed by both her family and all that knew her well.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, George; sons; Brian (Marcia) and Trevor (Trina), grandchildren; Caylea, Keanan, Kyauna, and Emerise. In-laws; Hazareth (Isaac); Evelyn (Sam); Sharon (Floyd) and nieces and nephews.

She is pre-deceased by her parents Ronald and Beryl Gaskin, brother, Roger Gaskin and in-laws Hazel & Roland Caines.

The family would also like to thank her home care workers who cared for her during the past number of years. Also, thanks to the doctors and nurses at Curtis Memorial Hospital who cared for Phyllis during her past three weeks at Curtis Memorial Hospital.

Cremation has taken place. A family service will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Sandy Cove on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 8:00 PM. The funeral service will follow on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating. Interment to follow.

MITCHELMORE, MAMIE ELLEN

Mamie Ellen Mitchelmore passed away peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, on January 30th 2023 at the age of 84, surrounded by her loving family. 

Mamie Ellen was born in Green Island Cove on December 22nd, 1938 to James and Amy McLean. She was raised with her three sisters and three brothers, whom she remained very close with throughout her life. 

She married the love of her life, Lambert Mitchelmore, on August 16th of 1959 and together they had five wonderful children; Brenda, Scott, Sidney, Kirby, and Ruby. She was also blessed with ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren whom she adored. 

Mamie Ellen loved visits from her wide circle of family and friends. She enjoyed cooking their favorite meals and always had something sweet in the fridge for her visitors to enjoy. Mamie Ellen also enjoyed gardening, knitting and playing cards. 

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories; Children- Brenda (Loomis), Scott (Janette), Sidney (Gail), Kirby (Velda), and Ruby; Grandchildren-  Monty (Denise), Ryan (Judy), Holly (Pelle), Dylan (Megan), Katie (Brandon), Kianna (Ryan), Colton (Kate), Nicholas (Mackenzie), Shannon (Jessica), and Alyson (Dillon); Great-Grandchildren- Cody (Michaela), Leya (Jack), Reid, Emma, Ashton, Kaseon, Finnley, Taylen and Owen; Brothers- John Thomas (Winnie), Vincent (Jessie), and Marcelle (Eura); In-Laws- Rhoda and Graydon; special nephew- Brent; special friends- Selby and Cicely, as well as a large circle of family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Lambert, her parents, James and Amy McLean, her In-Laws, William and Ruth Mitchelmore, her sisters, Millicent McLean, Maisie McLean, and Rhoda Susan Mitchelmore, as well as her Son-In-Law, Randy Moores. 

The family would like to send a special thanks to her wonderful homecare workers, Jill and Robin, whom she adored. 

Visitation will take place at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Lower Cove, NL from where the funeral service will also be held on Thursday, February 2nd 2023 at 2pm with Rev Canon Vernon Short. Norman and his sister, Margaret

February 4, 1966 - December 5, 2022

Born February 4, 1966, Norman grew up in St. Barbe. He .loved sports, especially hockey. He tried playing himself when he was younger but figured it was not for him. He loved his music, his favourite song was “Tiny Red Light”. He enjoyed visitors, going camping, and anything outdoors. Norman enjoyed life to the fullest.

He leaves to mourn his Mother, Eileen; Sister: Edith Jane (Wade); Nieces, Jadean (Dane), Edith (Bon), Jolene (Jordan); Great-nephews: Ashton, Ryan, Eric, Zander, Luke; Great-nieces: Kyla and Emma, as well as a large circle of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends,

He is predeceased by his father, Abraham; as well as a large circle of relatives.

January 8 1966 - January 28, 2023

Born January 8, 1966, Margaret was raised in St. Barbe and attended St. Genevieve Elementary. She participated in many activities and Girl Guides. She loved getting ger hair done, having her makeup done and having her fingernails painted. She was quite the pro at dancing. her favourite moves were shaking and twisting. Her passion was children, especially her nieces and nephews. Margie could be really witty on times, and loved everyone. Her love was unconditional. She lived life to the fullest.

She leaves to mourn his Mother, Eileen; Sister: Edith Jane (Wade); Nieces, Jadean (Dane), Edith (Bon), Jolene (Jordan); Great-nephews: Ashton, Ryan, Eric, Zander, Luke; Great-nieces: Kyla and Emma, as well as a large circle of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends,

HANCOCK, MAUREEN MARY

February 14, 1930 - January 26, 2023

Maureen Hancock passed January 26, 2023 at the age of 92 years.

Maureen leaves to cherish memories; her Sons: Gordon (Marion) Hancock, Lee (Dianne) Hancock, Kevin Hancock, Shawn (Jennifer) Hancock; Daughters: Bessie (Ed) Pilgrim, Shirley Pilgrim, Darlene Hancock (Rob), Hilda Hancock (Danny), Donna (Craig) Canning, Michelle (Ross) Randell; Sister-in-law: Pearl (Hancock) Taylor, 14 grandchildren, 2 foster grandkids, 21 great grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends.

Visitation took place from the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held on Monday, January 30 2023 with Rev. Rene Cassell officiating. Interment followed.

MORRIS, JESSIE LOUISA (nee Reeves)

July 20, 1943 - January 22, 2023

Jessie Morris was born in Cape North on July 20th, 1943, to Barton and Edith Reeves, she was raised in Goose Cove. She married Clarence Morris in 1963 and moved to Cartwright where they began their family, Jessie with her children later moved to Goose Bay.

Some years later Jessie moved back to Cartwright where she spent the rest of her years. She did not have an easy life, but she worked hard and raised her children, who were her pride and joy. Jessie’s every thought was for her children and grandchildren, longing for them to know the God that she served. Jessie placed her hope in Jesus, she remained that way until her passing in St. Anthony on January 22nd, 2023.

Jessie was a devout Christian who loved to worship her Lord and Savior, she found great peace in this and would do so at every opportunity. Jessie is now kneeling at her Savior’s feet.

Jessie leaves to remember with love, her Daughters: Nellie (Ronald) Pardy, Darlene (Jason) Taylor; Sons: Clarence (Bernice) Morris, Leroy (Sharon) Morris; 5 Grandchildren; 7 Great-grandchildren; Brother: Benjamin (Francis) Reeves; Sisters: Karen (Bob) Lunnen, Charlotte Coombs, as well as many other extended family and friends

She is predeceased by her husband: Clarence Morris; Son: Clifford Morris; Parents; Barton & Edith Reeves; Brother-in-law: Pete Coombs.

The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all whom contributed through the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to them during their hour of bereavement and sadness. May God Bless You!

HOUSE, JOSEPHINE DOROTHY

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Josephine House announce her passing on January 23rd, 2023 at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in her 86th year.

Josephine Dorothy House was born August 29th in Englee, NL. She was the first-born child of Patrick and Clarissa Ellsworth. When she was 2 years of age her parents moved to Roddickton. Josephine had 4 children whom she dearly loved and cherished.

Josephine was a businesswoman who ran a small retail store for over 20 years. She loved to read and spent most of her time reading her most cherished book, the Bible.

She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her 3 children Norma (Oliver), Ina and Debbie. Grandchildren: Kelly, Teri, Corey, Karla, Justin, Jenny, Joshua, Niki, Matthew and Megan; Brothers and sisters: Ronald (Hazel), Reginald, Sadie (Roy), Joan, Myer (Denise), Shelia, Colin (Lorinda); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Josephine is predeceased by her parents: Patrick and Clarissa, and her son: Monty.

WAY, TRENT

The family of Trent Way, 46, of Flowers cove, NL are saddened to announce his tragic passing on January 21st, 2023.

The family service will take place on Friday, January 27th, 2023 at 7:00 pm. Everyone welcome!! Funeral service will be held at the United Church in Flowers Cove on Saturday, January 28th at 2:00pm with Reverend Mcgonigle officiating. Burial will follow at the United Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the United Church of Flowers Cove.

Trent Way was born in St. Anthony, NL to Clarence and Nancy Way on January 7, 1977. He went to high school at Canon Richards High School and graduated in 1995. He worked his whole life in the oil industry and was lucky enough to get a job in Voisey Bay recently working closer to home. He enjoyed all outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, riding skidoo and bike.

Trent is survived by his wife Bonnie, daughter Kaitlyn (Skyler), mother Nancy, grandfather Stewart Mitchelmore, grandmother Sadie Way, mother-in-law Maria Gould, sister Tisa Tatchell (Kenneth), 2 special nephews CJ & Keegan Tatchell, sisters-in-law Virg Diamond (Clar), Sarah Mitchelmore (Wade), Enid Genge (Lawrence), Brother-in-law Gerald Gould (Dinah), Nieces Della Way (Marc), Gina Normore (Ronnie), Nephews Gerald Gould, Gerald Gould (Celeste), Ashley Gould (Annette), Wade Mitchelmore (Kellen), and Pop’s boy Chase. Trent is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and a large circle of family and friends.

Trent is predeceased by his father Clarence Way, grandfather Henry Way, grandmother Pearl Mitchelmore, Father-in-law Carl Gould, Brother-in-law Martin Gould, Nephew Tyler Diamond, Uncle Boris Mitchelmore, and Aunt Anne Way.

Trent was loved by everyone who knew him. Everyone is welcome to visit, attend the family service, and attend the funeral. Thank you to everyone for their support during this difficult time.
