BURDEN, JUDY GRACE

June 2, 1953 - December 24 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of Judy Grace Burden announce her passing on December 24, 2022 at Curtis Memorial  Hospital at the age of 69. Judy  was born on June 2, 1953 in Noddy Bay, NL to Elsie and Ambrose Hedderson. Judy was a great mom of four boys as well as a grandma and great grandma. She was married to Elias Burden for 53 years. She was a  member of the church pretty much her entire life.  After her boys were all grown up she spent her later years volunteering in her home town of St. Lunaire -Griquet, NL Left to mourn her:  Husband Elias, Sons  Murray(Lana) Morgan (Tammy), Dexter.  Grandson Damien(Dawn) and Granddaughters Chloe, Destiny, Hayley, Tamara, and Brooklynn. Great Grandkids Hunter, Heath and Caleigh. Sisters Cassie(Karl), Rita, Iris and Lorrie Pilgrim (Marlon). Brothers Ross(Pansy), Ernest(Frances) Also all her in-laws, her homecare worker Sandra Pilgrim and a large circle of nieces, nephews and the numerous close friends that she had made over her 69 years.  Predeceased by parents  Ambrose and Elsie, Son Danny as well as many more family members The family would like to thank all the staff at Curtis Memorial hospital who took such good care of Judy. Special thanks to Mikey for being my our Mom's nurse for all these years  and taking such good care of her.  She talked about you all the time. Also much appreciation to everyone for the support given us at this sad time. The visits, prayers, food or just being there when  we needed to talk or cry. All your support will never be forgotten. In lue of flowers memorial donations are being accepted.
The visitation and Funeral Service were held at the Pentecostal Church in St. Lunaire- Griquet on December 29th, 2022 at 2:00pm with Major Anthony Stokes and Major Beverly Dart Stokes, burial followed in the St. Lunaire- Griquet Salvation Army Community Cemetery. DAWE, LARRY JOSEPH

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our sweet brother and Uncle Larry Joseph Dawe at the age of 56 years. Enjoying the simpler things in life, it took little to make him happy. Larry had a deep love for sports, friends, and family gatherings. He loved the comradery of friends and enjoyed a heartfelt laugh when there was one to be had. He was the most selfless, caring and kind person who would leave a lasting imprint on the heart of those who had the privilege of meeting him. Left to mourn are; his sister Lillian (Ralph) Taylor; brother Sterling (Audrey) Dawe; Nieces Carla(Bart); Debbie (Todd); Samantha( Draper); and Amanda as well as his very special Friends Don and Ada Weir. Larry is predeceased by his parents Caleb and Elizabeth, sister Lavinia and brother Medford, who will be there to meet him with love and open arms, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that made the journey before him. The memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Raleigh NL, at 11am on the 26th of December 2022 with Rev. RICHARDS, DORCAS

May 15, 1927 - December 17, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Dorcas Richards announce her passing on December 17, 2022 at the age of 95 years at the John M Gray Center surrounded by her loving family.

Dorcas was the loving wife of the late James Richards as well a Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Great-great-grandmother, Mother-in-law, and Sister. She was a very caring person who loved to spend time on the rivers salmon fishing and on the bogs and hills berry picking. She was a great cook and baker and made many wedding cakes. She also loved to knit and sew.

She leaves to mourn her Children: Rex (Joan), Lester (Viva), Ruth, Patricia (Charlie); Son-in-law: Freeman; Daughter-in-law: Cindy; Grandchildren: Shane, Janice, Trina, Tina, Kevin (Jaymie), Terry (Joni), Greg (Lyndelle), Glenn (Shannier), Melissa (Jeremy), Chad (Karisa); Great-grandchildren: Madison (Chris), Lucas (Caris), Autumn, Brady, Sydney, Katee, Cameron, Hayden, Brooks, Shayla, Emmy, Casey, Clarice; Great-great-granddaughter: Ivy; Half-siblings: San (Eliza), Melvin (Carol), Joyce, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation to take place from the Pentecostal Church in Main Brook the evening of Monday, December 19, 2022 from 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 2:00 om with Pastor Skinner officiating. Interment to follow in the Salvation Army Cemetery.

CANNING, JEAN

January 29, 1935 - December 17, 2022

It is with a heavy heart that the family of the late Jean Canning announce her passing on December 17, 2022 at the age of 87 at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born to Stella and Sidney Pilgrim on January 29, 1935 at St. Anthony, NL. She started teaching in 1952 in Norris Arm South. In 1957 she went teaching in Great Brehat where she met her husband, Job, and they married on March 1, 1960. They moved to St. Anthony in 1966 where they raised their two children. She enjoyed knitting and socializing with her friends at Shirley’s Haven. She will be sadly missed by all.

She leaves to mourn her Daughters: Eileen (Mike) Pilgrim, Sandra (Lorne) Pilgrim; Grandchildren: Jamie (Jennifer), Michael (Kendell), Robyn (Matthew), Marshall (Brittney), Wilson (Janelle), Michelle (Steph); Great-grandchildren: Amber (Randy), Kaiden, Kalum, Mia, Braden, Seth, Wren, Kevin; Great-great-grandchild: Olivia; Sister-in-law: Bernette Pilgrim; Special Niece, Eliza Pittman; Special Nephews: David (Cindy), Maurice, Brian (Yvonne), as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She will be lovingly and sadly missed by all who knew her.

Jean is predeceased by her Parents: Sidney and Stella Pilgrim; Husband: Job; Daughter: Cavell; Sister: Joan Simms; Brother: Wayne Pilgrim; Brother-in-law: Reginald Simms.

Visitation to take place from the Salvation Army Church on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm . The funeral will take place the following day: Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm with Major Anthony Stokes and Major Beverly Dart-Stokes officiating. Cremation to follow.

ANDERSON, HENRY MAXWELL

1927 - 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Maxwell Henry Anderson announce his passing. Max passed peacefully away on December 16, 2022 at Long Term Care in Happy Valley Goose Bay, NL surrounded by his family.

Max married the love of his life Gladys Tucker on March 10th, 1949. They had 10 children, 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.  

Leaving to mourn his wife of 73 years, Gladys (Tucker) Anderson. Children; Mil, Charlie (Heather), Val, Edward, Dorman (Joan), Barry (Velma), Diane, Morris (Glowena), Morgan (Debbie), Lorne (Bonnie). Grandchildren; Greg, Jody, Robin, Rachel, Robert, Sean, Shawana, Stephen, Sheryl, Candace, Jeremy, Brad, Katrina, Brandon, Jennifer, Jessica, Matthew, Travis, Chad, Jeffery, Jonathan, Lindsey, Adam. Greatgrandchildren; Torsten, Sienna, Ava, Colin, Jacey, Austin, Brynlee, Hannah, Cameron, Kylee, Kaycie, Aurora, Jacob, Rylind, Kennadi, Kambree, Kiara, Logan, Jameson, Dakota, Emma, Arianna. Predeceased by his father, Charles Anderson and mother Delina (Bartlett).  

 A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at LTC in Happy Valley Goose Bay for taking special care of him during his stay.  

Public visitation to take place from the Central United Church (Quirpon Branch) beginning Sunday, December 18, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 11:00 am with Rev. Arthur Kinsella officiating. Interment will follow the service at the L’Anse Aux Meadows Community Cemetery.

NEWMAN, WARRICK

May 14, 1932 - December 12, 2022

Mr. Warrick Newman passed away December 12, 2022 from the Curtis S. Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. He leaves to Mourn his loving Wife, Madeline Newman; Sons: Arch (Lorraine), Rick Newman, Kirby (Belinda) Newman, Dennis (Cindy); Daughter: Sheena (Keith) Newman; Grandchildren: Shevon, Richard, Kiara, Shawna, Sheldon, Sarah, Dj, Matthew, Adam; Great Grandchildren: Olivia, Jack, William, Cody, Alex, Kenji, Ethan; Sisters: Christine, Velma, Alton as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

Warrick is predeceased by his parents: Chesley and Beryl Newman; Brother: Calvin Newman as well as Sisters: Clementine Hamlyn, and Mary Newman.

Visitation will take place at the Salvation Army Church in Englee on Friday, December 16, 2022. The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 17, 2022 with Major Janes officiating. Interment to follow.

CURL, DAPHNE DARLENE

January 31, 1968 - December 12, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Daphne Darlene Curl, aged 54 years, shares news of her peaceful passing, after living with early dementia, on December 12, 2022. Originally from St. Lewis, Labrador, Daphne most recently resided in Roddickton, NL.

Predeceased by her beloved parents Thomas and Margaret Curl, brothers David & Garland (Jane) and sister Beatrice.

Left with fond and loving memories are her sister Verna Smith (Lawrence d.), brothers John (Phyllis), Guy (Ivy) and Denley (Donna) as well as a large circle of nephews and nieces, special friend Michael Hennessey and her treasured dogs Joey & Bailey.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of the John M Grey Center in St. Anthony who cared for Daphne in the last few months.

Cremation will take place with a memorial service to follow at a later date in St. Lewis.

RANDELL, BOYCE JUNIOR

September 4, 1950 - December 9, 2022

Boyce was born on September 4th, 1950 in Hooping Harbour to Thomas and Florence Randell. He was the last of six children with two sisters and 3 brothers: the late Ethel Reid (Ludwick), the late Spurgeon (the late Marie), Ruby Randell (the late Freeman), Claude (Jean), Beaton (Shirley) as well as half-sister, the late Winnie Cassell.

He married Alma Elisabeth Cassell on January 30, 1969 in Hooping Harbour. Born to this union was six children. Five Daughters; Glennis Randell (Andre Du Plessis), Phyllis Patey (Scott), Mavis Canning (Brian), Mona Randell (Todd), Shirley Gillard (Howard) as well as son Jeffrey (Vicki Lemay). He also has 16 Grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 29 nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Boyce taught in school for two winters in Williamsport. He attended college in Stephenville and then worked for Arthur Locke of Roddickton installing furnaces. He moved into the fishing industry and worked various jobs and positions in plants around the island. This job also included a trip to Oslo, Norway where he dismantled fish processing equipment, prepared it for shipping and put it back together when it arrived in NL.

When he left the fishing industry he started B.J. Randell and Son. A self employed business that serviced heating, air conditioning and refrigeration, that he ran successfully for many years, After retiring his business he worked in Kitchener, ON for a short time before moving on to work at Wilderness North, based out of Thunder Bay. He worked there for 18 years at a fishing resort that he often referred to as a working vacation.

He prayed and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on February 21, 1972 along with his wife, Alma. He devoted much of his life outside of work to the Apostolic Faith work in Englee. He was a choir director for many years, played in the music department, volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, helped build a new church and took on many carpenter projects around the church.

He was known as a Jack of all trades, and lent a helping hand to many friends and family around him. He spent much time in recent years doing whatever he could to help his two brothers (Spurgeon and Claude) living next door, and his sister Ruby down the road.

His love of laughter and fun, being a jokester and his infectious grin was well known around his community. A community that he loved and was proud of. He loved being involved and helping to make it a great place to live.

He had some health issues in past years that he faced with strength and courage. He was back on his feet as soon as possible to face his next challenge head on.

On Saturday, December 3, 2022 his family called the ambulance, as he had been struggling with sickness for the past week. He was transported to St. Anthony Hospital and on Tuesday, December 4, 2022 he was airlifted to Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook. He fought to the end and on Friday, December 9th, 2022 at 1:26 pm, he passed peacefully away surrounded by family as they sang the last refrain of “Because He Lives”. When the minister whispered last amen, he took his heavenly flight.

Visitation will take place from the Apostolic Faith Church beginning the evening of Wednesday, December 14, 2022 with the family service to take place on Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Kirby Hewlett officiating. Interment to follow.

KENNEY, FRANCIS JOSEPH

Francis Joseph Kenney

August 31, 1932-December 8, 2022

Frank was born to James & Helen Kenney (Dower) in Conche. Age 90 years. He had 2 sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth, a stepbrother Jack Kearsey. Frank was a fisherman all his life. He was a kind and gentle man; looking after his Mom & Dad until their passing. He liked the outdoors, picking berries and talking to friends and strangers, alike, often over tea and a lunch. On April 30, 2018, he took up residence at Roddickton House until a week before his passing at CSCM Hospital, St. Anthony. Cremation has taken place as per Frank's request. The family would like to say a special Thank You to the staff of Roddickton House. Also, Thank You to staff of WBCH Center, Roddickton, CSCM Hospital, St. Anthony and Kerry M Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony.

PARRILL, WILSON

Passed peacefully away on the 1st of December 2022 Mr. Wilson Parrill of Eddies Cove East in his 74th year. By his side as he passed was his devoted loving wife of 50 years Violet Parrill, also left to mourn his passing was sons; Boyd (Joanne), Bart (Carla), Bruno (Stephanie); Grandchildren Clinton, Maddison, Carter, Abby and Aiden. His sisters Hazel (Late Walter Williams), Dulcie (Late William Applin), Beulah (Bruce Coates); his brothers Stewart (Juanita), Wallace (Thamsie). Sister in-laws Rachel Parrill, Laura Parrill and Myrtle Noseworthy. Brother in-laws Albert (Barbara Noseworthy), Eli (Dianne Noseworthy). Wilson was predeceased by his parents Albert and Laura, father and mother in-law Leander and Hildegarde Noseworthy. Brothers Gordon, Cecil and John (Rosie) and sisters Marjorie (Nicholas Hughes), Evelyn Parrill and Olga Parrill.

Wilson started work at an early age, going away to Labrador City working in the woods and then working in construction industry, returning to Eddies Cove East to start his family and where he built his forever home with Violet. He spent remainder of his time, do what he truly loved; fishing lump, caplin, cod, herring and mackerel from Eddies Cove and lobster from Barr'd Harbour. Only to return to construction one more time in Grande Prairie, AB.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at the Strait of Belle Isle Health centre in Flowers Cove and Dr. Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, especially the Doctors and nurses of OBS, Medicine, ICU and Palliative Care. The family would also like to thank those who sat with him during his sickness.

Visitation will be taking place at St. Andrews Anglican Church In Lower Cove beginning December 2nd in the afternoon and continuing until the family service at 8:30 pm Sunday evening. The funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm on Monday December 5th with Rev. Vernon Short Officiating. Interment will follow in the Eddies Cove East Anglican Cemetery.
