GIBBONS, WINSTON CHURCHILL

July 4, 1940 – January 4, 2019


Passed away on January 4th from the Western Regional Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 78 years. Winston will always be remembered by Wife, Minnie; Children, Marvin, Roger, Michelle, Marilyn; Grandchildren George, Peter, Amy, Alex, Matthew, Ryder, Sam, Ashley, Andy, Jamie; Great-Grandchildren, Hailey, Avery, and Kruz. Visitation was held from the Anglican Church of the Advent in Plum Point from where the funeral was held on January 10th, 2019 with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating. Interment followed.

HOPKINS, MELINDA CATHY

August 22, 1968 - January 1, 2019

Heaven gained a precious angel when Melinda Cathy Hopkins (nee Randell) of Englee passed away in the comfort of her home in January 1, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Melinda was very well known in the community and surrounding are having her own hair salon for over 20 years. Her family was her whole world and she put them above all else. She met the love of her life Kevin in June 1987 only to marry him a short time later on May 21, 1988, together they built a loving home and family with whom she deeply cherished. Left here to mourn is husband of 30 years Kevin; daughter Aimee; son Aaron; Parents Norman and Mae Randell; sister Juanita(Roy); brothers Ricky (Havaliene) and David(Daphne); Parents-in-law Scott and Shirley Hopkins; sisters-in-law Bonnie (Derrick) and Kathy (Perry), as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Special thanks to Bonnie Decker and Rhonda Hicks at the Chemo unit in St. Anthony for all their care and support over the last 4 years. Visitation will be held from Salvation Army Church in Englee beginning the evening of Thursday, January 3, 2018 and will continue until the funeral on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Major Simms officiating. CLARKE, BERNARD WILLIAM

October 11, 1938 - January 2, 2019

With admiration but with heavy hearts and great sadness that the Clarke family announce the passing of Bernard (Bern) William Clarke of Croque, NL on January 2nd 2019 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 80 years. Bernard was loved by anyone who knew and touched by many in his 80 years!. He leaves behind to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 57 years Nellie; Sons: Tony (wife Julia), Brenden (wife Loretta), Kenneth (wife Hilda), Melvin (wife Tracy); Daughters: Geraldine, Marcella, Kimberley, Grandchildren: Gene (Wife Tiffany), Colette, Chelsea, Sheena, Jonah, Robbie, Cheyanne, Corina, Brooke; Great Grandchildren: Calvin, Kinley, Hailey, Christopher, Emily, Miguel, Riley, Nicolas, Natalie; Brothers: Frank, Leonard, Terry, Kevin; Sisters: Maude, Millicent, Bernadette, Maureen, Brenda as well as many more nieces, nephews, Cousins and Many Friends. POWER, PHILIP JAMES (PHIL)

April 2, 1952 – December 27, 2018

Passed away suddenly in his home in Conche at the age of 66 years. Phil was a young boy when he began fishing on his father's boat in Conche along with his brothers. With a heavy heart, he left the island briefly in the 1970s and again in the 1980s and worked tirelessly for decades at Chantler Packaging Inc. in Ontario.  Upon his retirement he finally returned to where his heart and soul belonged by the Atlantic Ocean. He spent his retirement doing what he loved most -- on a longliner fishing with his dear friends. He is survived by brothers and sisters - Angela (Jerry), Madonna, Maurice, Evangeline, Frank (Dianne), Albert (Debbie) Wayne, Fabian (Gina), and Linda as well as his adored nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and countless friends. Phil was predeceased by his loving parents Rita and Cornelius, Sister Joan and Brother Anthony. Visitation was held from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic with the funeral mass taking place on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 11:00 am with Father George officiating. Interment followed. Passed away December 22, 2018 at the age of 83 years. Henry Chambers Sr. is remembered with love by his family; Barbara Chambers, wife of 57 years; Children, Gorvin (Debbie), Pam (Barry), Judy (Monty), Darlene (Earl) and Henry (Tanya); Grandchildren, Ryan and Mitch, Cameron, Chanelle, Megan, Abby, Noelle, Ryder and Linden; Great grand children, Ethan, Kashton and Taylor. Henry is predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Jane Chambers as well as his Brothers and Sisters. WAY, LOUISA

May 10, 1927 – December 16, 2018

Passed away on December 16th, 2018 at the age of 91 years. She leaves to mourn her Husband, John; Daughters, Winnie (Stan), Daisy (Tom); Son, Elijah (Cicely); Grandchildren, Jeff, Sheldon, Chad, Denise, Damian, Robin, Cleon, and Families; Sisters, Gladys and Sarah; Sisters-in-law, Winnie (Ken), Jane, Lourie as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Louisa was predeceased by her Parents, Clara and Stephen White; Parents-in-law, Kizzie and Elijah Way; Brothers, Raymond (Clarissa), Theophilus (Millie), Algerion (Mary), Porter, Isaac, Harrison (Selina), Stephen (Mary Jane), and Freeman’ Sisters, Irene, Maria Jane (Steward); In-laws, Llewellyn (Dulcie), Earl (Mary Ellen), and Rachel (Charlie). Visitation took place from St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Savage cove from where the funeral was held on December 19th, 2018 with Rev. Omar Reyes officiating. Interment followed. RANDELL, FREDERICK CHARLES

February 24, 1922 – December 15, 2018

Frederick Charles Randell was born on February 24th, 1922 to Eli and Tryphena in Williamsport. He, along with this brother and three sisters were raised in Williamsport. On October 19th, 1944, Fred married Violet Randell, also of Williamsport, and together they raised three sons. They remained in Williamsport until they resettled to Englee in 1969. Fred and Violet were business people who ran their own business. Fred was also a boat builder and mail carrier. In 1999 Violet passed away and Fred continued on his own, until he took up residence in the John M. Gray Centre. On December 15th, Fred passed peacefully away. He is survived by his sons, Jesse (Gladys), Hedley (Shirley), and Ted (Emma). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from the Englee United Church from where the funeral took place on December 18th with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed. ELLIOTT, AMELIA ELIZABETH

August 27, 1943 – December 14, 2018

Passed away December 14, 2018 at the age of 75 years. Thankful for a lifetime of memories are Husband Reuben; Sisters Ruth and Mary (Herbert); Nephew Erastus (Sharon); Brother in Law William (Elizabeth); Sisters in Law Pheobie, Bessie, Alice, Naomi; Special Nephew Justin (Shauna); Special Niece Charmaine (Chris); Special Grand Nephew Brody; Special Grand Nieces Elena, Isla, and Ava as well a large circle friends, nieces & nephews, and extended family members. Amelia is predeceased by her Mother and Father, Hazel and William Rice, Brother Elihu, and Sister Gladys. Visitation was held from St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Cooks harbour from where the funeral was held on December 17, 2018 with Catechist Art Kinsella officiating. Interment followed. LODER, URSULA FRANCES

Passed away into peace on the 8th of December, 2018, Ms. Ursula F. Loder of St. Anthony Newfoundland (originally of Harbour Deep) in her 74th year. Left to mourn are Ursulas nephew Eddy Cassell, Eddies spouse Nicole and their children Amy and Jonah, sisters Marie Hiscock, Ida Ropson, Annie Compton, Marjorie Cassell (Paul), brothers Gerald Loder, Freeman Loder, her spicial life long friends Gladys, Tony and their son Christoper, as well as many Nieces, Nephews and Friends. Ursula was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Delilah Loder; Sister Stella Ellsworth, Brother Andrew; Brothers in law, Roland Ellsworth, Eliol Hiscock, Richard Ropson, Norman Compton, and George Cassell. Visitation was held at the Funeral Home in St. Anthony on Dec. 10th and 11th. The funeral took place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. ADAMS, JESSIE BLANCH

August 26, 1950 – December 5, 2018
Passed away December 5th, 2018 from the Charles S. Curtis Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 68 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her Siblings, Dulcie, Elva, Robert, Wilson, Ford, Lawrence; as well as all of her nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. Jessie was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Kenneth Adams, and Brother Wilfred Adams. Visitation was held from Calvary Pentecostal Church in Roddickton from where the funeral was held on Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Benjamin Brown officiating.
