It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of Louis Caines. Born March 22, 1958 passed away peacefully at the Health Science Centre on Nov 11, 2018. He leaves to mourn his loving and dedicated wife Jane; Daughters Jilda (Abraham) and Paula. His pride and joy granddaughter Mia; Sisters, Dorcas, Elizabeth (George), Mary Ann (Edmund), Levinia, Myrtle (Wayde); Brother, Walter (Maria); Brother and sister in laws, Terence (Lucy), Troy (Trudy), Regina (Larry), Trudy (Lyndon), Anne (Garfield); as well as all of his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were very special to him. Louis was predeased by his parents Garfield and Kezia, in laws Leslie and Hilda Chambers, brother in laws Kerry Fillatre and Churchill Mitchelmore. He will be missed forever! Visitation took place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove. The funeral was held on Friday, November 16th 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating, inurnment followed. HUMBY, MARY LAVENIA

October 19, 1935 - November 7, 2018

On November 7th, 2018, Lavenia Humby (Levie) passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she loved and served. She was committed to her faith, loved God and his word, and attended church regularly. Levie was born in Griquet Newfoundland, where she married Henry Humby and raised her family. Levy is remembered as a soft-spoken, kind-hearted person. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Levie leaves to mourn her sons Raymond (Bessie), Robert (Gina), Michael (Sheila), Daughters Blanche and Pearl, as well as 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and close friends. Levie was predeceased by her parents John and Rhoda Pilgrim, husband Henry George Humby, son Lawrence Humby, grandson Jim Hillier, brothers George, Chesley, Gordon and Allen as well as sisters Pearl, Rita, Ruby, Olive and Lucy. The homegoing service was held at 2 p.m. on November 11th, 2018 from the Calvary Tabernacle in Griquet Newfoundland with Pastor Bill Harnum officiating. CARROLL, LORETTA (LAURIE) MARY

July 6, 1941 - November 7, 2018

Loretta (Laura) Carroll, born in Conche to Patrick and Mary Ellen Byrne. Laura moved to Fortune Arm where she married William Carroll. Together they had ten children. Later in life, they uprooted again and moved to Alcock’s Point in Griquet. Laura worked at the fish plant for many years then later she went fishing with her husband. Laura was a strong-willed woman who not only took care of her own, but everyone else –whether it was making them bread or knitting them socks. She was blessed with 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren that she loved dearly. Leaving to mourn sons; John (Wanda), Louis (Daphne), Mike (Belinda), Patrick (Tonya) and Anthony, daughters; Annie (David), Mary Ellen (Leaton), Sadie (Bud), and Marie (Keith); brother William Byrne (Effie); 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, William Carroll, daughter, Mary Ellen, brothers; John, Patrick, Joseph, Edward, Charlie, Francis, Thomas, and sister Gertie. Funeral mass took place at 1:00PM on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 at St. Monica’s Church, Griquet, NL, officiated by Father George. CULL, LORIE

September 5, 1926– October 28, 2018

Passed away October 28, 2018 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 92 years. She leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, her Brother Bill; Children, Annie (Lloyd), Aubrey (Judy), May (Reg), Jean (Bruce), Roger (Audrey), Marie (Tony), Sharron (John), Yvonne (Ed), Renee (Neil), and Randy; 24 grandchildren; 29 greatgrandchildren; 2 great-greatgrandchildren; as well as a large circle of family and friends. Mrs. Cull is predeceased by her husband, Freeman Cull; Son, Calvin Cull; Parents, Jessie and Aubrey Saunders; and ten of her siblings. Visitation was held from Kerry M. COOMBS, LESLIE GEORGE

September 7, 1949 – October 26, 2018


Passed away October 26th, 2018 from the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 89 years. Leslie George Coombs was the youngest son of Morgan and Rosanna Coombs of Pond Cove. Leslie had one sister, Elizabeth, and four brothers: William, Nelson, Adam, and Benjamin. As a young man he spent most of his time working in and around the woods, both in camps and logging boats. In 1966, he met the love of his life, Inga Mitchelmore, and was married in June of 1967. Leslie leave to mourn his loving wife Inga, his oldest son Todd, daughter-in-law Gail, two loving granddaughters Morgan and Megan, and youngest son Leander, daughter-in-law Laiheang, loving grandson William and his stepson Dean Mitchelmore as well as a large circle of family and friends. Visitation was held from the Pentecostal Church in Main Brook from where the funeral took place on Thursday. November 1, 2018 with Pastor Skinner officiating. BYRNE, CLIFFORD PATRICK

August 31, 1953 – October 26, 2018

Passed tragically away in Conche on October 26th, 2018 at the age of 65 years. Cliff was a member of Alberta Carpenters and Allied workers. He spent many years working in the oil sands in Fort McMurray. He loved to fish and hunt, and especially loved Newfie music and dancing. He will be sadly missed. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his mother, Ellen; Brothers, Garrett (Selina), Gerry, Michael (Bernice), Kenneth; Sisters, Christine (Matt), Frances (Gary), Elsie (Bob), Doreen (Jean-Guy), Margaret (Bill); Son, Shannon; and Special Friend, Shirley. Cliff will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family, and circle of friends. Clifford was predeceased by his Father, William Byrne; Twin Brothers, Robert and William Byrne; as well as his Nephew, Jeremy Scott. POWELL, DONALD LEWIS

October 28, 1979 - October 25, 2018

“Donny” passed away on October 25th, 2018 at the age of 38 years. “Mr. Donald Powell” was a special child to proud parents Walter and Josephine. He was the third child, and brother to Pansy and Frank. Don was a member of a very large and loving family. He was special not only to family, but to numerous friends, neighbours and strangers. He was a friend to everyone he met. All of the community of St. Anthony and area knew him well. A wave, a smile and an excited greeting was for everyone. Left to mourn, with many fond Memories: His Mom, Josie; His Sister Pansy (Dave) and His Brother Frank (Lee); His Nephews Mitchell and Matthew; His Niece Erika; His Uncle Ray and His Cousin Donna along with so many friends! Passed away October 21, 2018 at White Bay Central Health Centre in Roddickton at the age of 87 years. Isabella was predeceased by her husband, Edward Hopkins, and her Parents, Reuben and Harriet Hopkins. WEIR, CRYSTAL DAWN

Born in Thompson, Manitoba to Melvin and Sandy Weir on June 6th, 1985, Crystal Weir passed on October 2nd, 2018 at the age of 33 years. She is survived by her two children, DJ and Destiny. Crystal loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and time with her family. She was an LPN and Graduated from the College of the North Atlantic in 2012. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her two children, DJ and Destiny; Husband, Dexter Fillier; Father, Melvin Weir (Agnes); Brothers, Chris, Tyrone, Steven, and Michael; Nieces, Abbie, Audie, Allie; Special Aunt and Friend Cindy, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Crystal is predeceased by her mother, Sandra Stillar-McCall; Grandparents Jim and Edna Stillar, and Maxwell and Ester Weir.
