GARDINER, BERNARD JOHN

Passed away from the White Bay Health Centre in Roddickton on October 29th, 2017 at the age of 58 years. He leaves to mourn with cherished memories his spouse Paula Talbot; Children Brady, Alexis, Jenny, Jacinta, Bernard Jr; Brothers Martin (Patricia), Paddy; Sisters Eileen (troy), Madeline, Maureen (Gale); Special Aunt Gwendolyn Clements as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Bernard was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Mary Gardiner. Visitation was held at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Conche from where the funeral was held on November 3, 2017 at 2:00 with Fr. Ralph officiating. Interment followed. BYRNE, TERRENCE (TERRY) DAVID

Passed peacefully away on October 29th, 2017 at Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 59.  Terry lived a simple life.  He was a very quiet and gentle person.  Terry loved to read, watch movies and had a large collection of both.  At some point while driving or walking the streets of St Anthony you would have passed him along the way.  Terry is gone, but never forgotten for he lives on in the hearts and minds of those he knew and loved. He will be greatly missed and remembered by his mother Nellie; Sisters Philomena (Blaine), Gertie (Kenny), Bernice (Lonny); Brothers Anthony, Vince, Frank (Faye), Gord and Wilburn as well as a large circle of aunts, an uncle, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Terry is predeceased by his father Joseph. Visitation took place from Kerry M Fillatre’s Home with the funeral service taking place from the Roman Catholic Church in St Anthony at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 1st, 2017 with Father Ralph officiating. LODER, GORDON STERLING

Born June 14th, 1953 at Curtis Memorial Hospital to Arthur and Olive Loder. He married Dorcas Hedderson on June 8th, 1973 and had two children, Trina and Tanya- and later, two grandchildren, Meagan and Jenna. Gord’s career in health care started in St Anthony with Grenfell Regional Health Services. In the early eighties, Gordon and his family moved to Summerside P.E.I. where he worked as Purchasing Manager with Prince County Hospital. In 2012, Gordon and Dorcas decided to move to Edmonton, AB to be closer to their kids and grandkids; where he worked as a Purchasing Agent with Alberta Health Services. After being diagnosed with cancer he decided to retire. In 2016, after battling cancer for 5 years, Gordon and Dorcas moved back to St. Anthony and then to Hay Cove. Gordon succumbed to his disease on October 28th, 2017 at 2:20 am. He leaves to mourn his Wife Dorcas; Daughters Trina (Paul) Loder, Tanya (Shawn) Arsenault; Granddaughters Meagan and Jenna; Brothers Al (Colleen), Don (Linda), Bob (Eileen); Sisters Ruby McConnell, Mitzie (Carl) Wethrell, Shirley (Carroll) Harper, Yvonne (Troy) Henson, Delphanie (Tom) Cunningham, Myrtle Larkin, Winnie (Daniel) Ellsworth, Sandra (Paul) Fraser, Linda (Garfield) Fillier, Mary Loder as well as a large circle of family and friends. Gordon is predeceased by his Parents Arthur and Olive Loder; Brother Pearce (Bud) Loder; Brothers-in-law Jerry McConnell, Thomas Larkin, Cyril Bessey; Nephew Tommy Cunningha,; Nieces Theresa and Donna Harper; and Parents-in-law Dorman and Blanche Hedderson. Visitation was held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church from where the funeral was held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Bessey officiating. Interment followed. GENGE, GEORGE STEPHEN

Passed away on October 27th, 2017 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 87 years. He is forever remembered by Steward and Dorcas; Easta, Dan and Lauren; Rick, Crystal, Malcolm, and Ricki. Sadie Genge and Family as well as extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents George and Evangeline Genge as well as special friend Porter Genge Junior. Visitation took place from the Anglican Church in Anchor Point from where the funeral was held on Monday, October 30th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Omar Reyes officiating. Interment followed. WILLIAMS, WHYMAN

Passed away on October 24th, 2017 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 57 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his partner Michelle; Son Dylan; Stepsons Ryan and Jeff; Grandkids Jade, Autumn, Parker, and Kirsty; Sisters Caroline, Vivian, Yvonne (Lambert); Brothers George (Judy), Stephen (Rachel), Cornelious; Mother and Father in law Pat and Angela Walsh; Sisters and Brothers in Law as well as extended family and friends. Whyman was predeceased by his Father and Mother Hubert and Jane Williams. Visitation took place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove from where the funeral was held on October 27th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Katie Flynn officiating. NEWMAN, JULIA GLADYS

Passed away October 24th, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Julia Gladys was born in Great Brehat on January 12, 1927 to William and Jessie Patey. She was one of seven children. At the age of five, she moved to Little Brehat to live with her grandparents, Julia and Joseph Clarke. She finished school at the age of 11 to help take care of her grandparents and two uncles. At the age of 19, Julia married the love of her life Benjamin Newman who was from Great Harbour Deep and together they raised five children. The family lived in Little Brehat until 1959 at which time they resettled to St. Anthony. In addition to raising her family, Julia worked at the fish plant and she also worked in housekeeping. She was a woman of many talents including cooking, baking, knitting and sewing. Together, Julia and Benjamin loved to take part in outdoor activities especially berry picking, snaring rabbits, and trouting. Julia had a strong faith and a love for God and on April 16th, 1995 she was proudly enrolled as a Salvation Army Soldier. She enjoyed all types of church activities, and especially enjoyed the Home League and volunteering at the local Thrift Store. Left with warm and loving memories are her children Ambrose (Peggy), Neil, Patsy (Alphonsus), and Tracey (Lyle), along with 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildrem, and one great-great-grandchild. Julia is predeceased by her loving husband, eldest daughter Jessie, and son-in-law John. Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Citadel in St. Anthony from where the funeral service was held on Friday, October 27th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Captains David and Melanie Rideout officiating. TAYLOR, HARVEY

Passed away October 10th, 2017 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 88 years. Harvey Taylor was born in Raleigh to John & Elsie Taylor on May 19th, 1929. He grew into a hardworking man with a wonderful sense of humour. In the early 1960’s, Harvey found work at the old Viking Inn on Pistolet Bay. It was there that he met his true love, Catherine, who was employed at the Inn. They married in 1963, at the United Church in Raleigh, where they settled down to raise their family. “In sickness and in health” they were always there for each other. Kay and Harvey raised their children, Ford and Amanda, who have been very supportive throughout his illness. In addition to his humour, Harvey was always an energetic worker. Even after he “retired”, Harvey loved getting out into the woods to work at his firewood. Harvey was known to set his family and friends into gales of laughter at the many comical things he would say. His smile made you feel right at home. He touched many people’s lives, and he will be greatly missed. He leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories his wife Catherine “Kay”, Children Ford (Wanda), Amanda (Craig); Grandsons Nicholas and Brock; Brother Hedley; Sisters Nellie (Bill), Gert, and Janice. He was predeceased by his parents John and Elsie Taylor, Brother Norman, and Sisters Ethel and Stella. Visitation took place from the United Church in Raleigh from where the funeral service took place on October 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Interment followed. BURTON, ROY NATHANIEL

Roy N. Burton of Englee, a well respected and loved member of the community passed away at Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife Ivy, Daughter Bonnie (Terry), Son Bob (Wanda), Son Boyd, Son Trevor (Alicia). Grandchildren Brandon, Adam, Andrew, Shania, Cody, Mackenzie, Stephan Burton and Ryder. Great grandchildren Kaden and Bree. Brother Wilson, Lewis, Lorne. Sisters Joyce, Elsie, Verley, Bonetta, Alice, Marilyn. He is predeceased by his parents Hayward and Priscilla (Paddock). Visitation will be held at Englee Salvation Army church from 2 to 4 pm (public) 7 - 9 pm (family only) on Tuesday 10 Oct 17. Funeral service is under direction of Salvation Army ministers Bruce and Judy Giles to be held on Wednesday 11 Oct 17 @ 2 pm followed with burial at Salvation ArmyCemetery. A reception celebrating his life will be held at the Salvation Army church following the burial for family and extended family. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice. DIAMOND, GORDON TRUMAN

Passed away on October 7th at the Charles S. Curtis memorial hospital in S. Anthony at the age of 90 years. Gordon Diamond was born in Flowers Cove on September 26, 1927. Although illness is never good news, Gordon was blessed to be hospitalized in the old hospital in St. Anthony where he met Josie Parrill. That chance encounter was the beginning of a relationship that changed both of their lives. Josie and Gordon were marries on June 13th, 1953. Gordon and Josie raised two children, Sharon and Don. He was a fisherman, and he loved the outdoors. Even after a stroke, over twenty years ago, he loved to get outdoors, go out to Fishing Point and watch all that was going on from boats to seals and other wildlife. He had a healthy sense of humour and he will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 64 years, Josie (nee Parrill) and Children Sharon and Donald. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral on Tuesday October 10th, 2017 from the St. Anthony United Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Passed peacefully away at home in his 80th year after a long battle with cancersurrounded by family and friends. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Patience Marie as well as brothers, Samuel, Eric, and Leslie and sisters Sally, Elizabeth, Selina.and brother in law Frank, sister in laws Olive and Judy.
