ELLSWORTH, ROLAND

Roland was born to Thomas and Jessie Ellsworth on April 21st, 1935 in Englee, NL. He married Stella Loder of Harbour Deep on July 5th, 1956. Roland made his living by working in the woods, fishing, and working in the fish plant as a cutter. He also spent time working in construction work. Roland gave his heart to the Lord under the ministry of Pastor Peckford. Roland slipped away into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, July 2nd, 2017 at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 82 years. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. He leaves to cherish memories his Brothers Ralph (Shirley), Ron (Wavey); Sisters Lily, and Drucilla as well as his nephews, nieces, and many other relatives. He was predeceased by his wife Stella; His parents Thomas and Jessie, and by his sister Audrey. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in Englee from where the funeral was held on July 7th, 2017 with Pastor Simms officiating. Interment followed in the new Pentecostal Cemetery in Englee. PYNN, MADELINE E.

Passed away July 1st, 2017 at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony at the age of 73 years. She leaves to mourn with a lifetime of fond and loving memories her Children, Patty (Terry), Michelle (Simon), Wanda (Jake), Amos (Shona); Grandchildren Kayla, Kyle, Tyler, Sheena, Zachary; Great-Grandchildren Kate, Cooper; Brothers Isaac, George (Lucy); Sisters Nancy (Grenfell), Wavey (Calvin); In-Laws Phyllis White, Virtue Barton, Gayden Pynn, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Amos Pynn; Son Tony Pynn; Parents Harrison and Selina White; and Parents-in-law Ebenzer and Louisa Pynn. Visitation was held at the St. Thomas Anglican Church in Sandy Cove from where the funeral was held on July 3rd, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Katie Flynn officiating. Interment followed. JOHNSON, EILEEN DORIS

Passed away June 24th, 2017 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 85 years. Eileen was born on September 20, 1931 to the late Charles and Elizabeth Hopkins. She married Fred (Ted) Johnson on April 16, 1956. Eileen was an outdoor person and loved to go trouting and rabbit catching. She loved to knit and knitted hundreds of socks. Teachers boarded at her house for several years. She worked at the fish plant for 20 years. She came to know the Lord in 1999 in her own home. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her daughter Joy; son-in-law Guy; Grandchildren Paula, Tyson; Sisters Muriel, Ethel, Rita; and Brother John as well as nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father, mother, and her husband Ted. Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Church in Englee from where the funeral was held on Wednesday, June 28th, 2017 with Major Maurice Collins officiating. BURDEN, TYRONE WAYNE

Passed away on June 27th, 2017 in Grand Prairie, Alberta at the age of 33 years. Tyrone was born to Wayne and Alma Burden on February 13th, 1984. He graduated high school in 2002 and moved to Ontario where his sister Vanessa lived to search for work. He returned home in 2008 but left again for Grande Prairie shortly after. Tyrone loved hanging out with his buddies and enjoyed playing hockey, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and any outdoor activities. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his parents Wayne & Alma Burden; Sisters Vanessa (Eyon Goosney), Vivian (Corwin Randell); Nephew Alex Burden; Nieces: Kerissa Burden, Keesha Goosney, Katona Goosney; Grandmother Elizabeth Richards; Uncles and Aunts Willis (Shirley) Wyatt, Nellie (Richard) Mitchelmore, Nina Hill, Ben Denney, Hedley (Faye) Richards, Harrison (Judy) Richards, Hubert (Barbara) Richards, Lester (Viona) Richards, Florence (Freeman) Richards, David (Jackie) Richards, Glenn Richards (Penny Kinsella), Wavey (Alick) Pilgrim, Judy (Randy) Wiseman, Peggy (John) Barnes, Terry Burden (Cathy May), Tommy Burden (June Offrey); and a large circle of relatives and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. WARD, GEORGE ERNEST

Passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Health Science Centre, St. John’s, NL at the age of 86 years– George Ernest Ward of St. Anthony, NL. He is now re-united with his loving wife Caroline (April 18, 2004). Left with cherished memories are his daughters Leona (Pat McGuire) Paradise, NL and Sharon (Paul Gosse) Torbay, NL.; granddaughters Denee Stokes, Fort MacMurray, AB and Jillian McGuire, Paradise;  great-granddaughters Mackenzie, Raisa and Jamie Stokes, Fort MacMurray, AB;  sisters, Marie Blake, Doris Calloway (Wilson), Jessie Ward and Ella Michelin; sisters in law Ethel Ward, Sara Winsor (John), Violet Richards, Naomi Colbourne, brother in law Heber Colbourne (Thelma); family friend, Anna Gosse and many nieces, nephews, cousins and valued friends. He was also predeceased by hisWife Caroline, parents Alice and Henry Ward, Brother Wallace and Sister Mary Lyall.  In addition to being caring and dedicated to his family, he was a faithful, life-long member of the Loyal Orange Lodge 126 and Royal Black Preceptor 1048. He also loved fishing, berry picking and spending time at his cabin. Visitation was held from Kerry M. CUNARD, GRANT

passed away on June 21st, 2017 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 80 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Wife Elsie; Brothers Eric (Ann), Eli, Wallace (Rita), Terry (Donna); Sister Hepsy; Brother-in-law Kevin Samson; Sister-in-law Barbara Brown; Special nieces Sara and Stephanie; Nephew Stephen as well as a wide circle of family in friends. He was predeceased by his Parents Jacob and Sarah Fanny Cunard; Brother Issac, Hubert; and Sisters Matilda, Elizabeth, and Maryann. Visitation took place at the Church of the Advent Anglican Church in Plum point from where the funeral took place on Saturday, June 24th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating. NEWELL, MURIEL ANN

It is with deep sadness that the family and friends of Muriel Ann (Pike) Newell, (Moo) announce her death on Tuesday June 20, 2017 at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony, NL. There was love in the beginning, as Muriel was an only child born of parents, Mary Edna and Joseph Taylor Pike of Red Bay, Labrador on October 29, 1930. There she lived until, at the age of 13, her widowed mother decided life might be easier for them both if they moved to St. Anthony, NL. They travelled by coastal boat and began working for the Grenfell Mission. Muriel was a nurses’ aide at the age of 16, then a teacher, a Co-op store clerk, and later in life, a store manager for “Newell’s Confectionary”. She married John William Newell (the Co-op Store Manager) and together they raised a family, and cared for her mother until she died in 1972. A strong, vivacious, loving, intelligent, witty woman, she will be fondly remembered by many. Left to mourn are her children, Gary, Tony, Trudy and Wayne and their spouses, Michele Hodder, Beverly, Stewart Read, and Ella, respectively.  A special niece, Louise (Buchanan) Reid will miss her Aunt Moo. Her grandchildren include Andrea (Richard) Kelly; Stephen Newell; Samantha Read (Matthew Cole); Christopher Read (Jacinta Briand); Matthew Newell (Robyn); Jenna Newell; and Hayley Newell who lived beside her for all of her 13 years.  Nan Newell had great grandchildren, Jacob and Maria Kelly and Sarah Newell. Her special cat, Trixie, provided many hours of comfort to her in recent years as she struggled with dementia. She was a kind neighbour and good friend to many, but special friends stayed by her side to the end and included Lottie Simms, Jeanette Hostetter, and Marjorie Richards. Muriel was surrounded by love at the end. A service of remembrance was held at St. Anthony United Church on Friday June 23, 2017 with Rev. John Maich officiating. She was laid to rest beside her Husband, John in the Fishing Point United Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to her next door neighbour, Lee Nippard of Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton.   

TUCKER, MARION AUGUSTA

passed away on June 18th, 2017 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 81 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her Husband Alpheaus; Daughter Sharron (Martina) Elgar; Son Danny (Natalie) Elgar; Sisters Elizabeth Wheeler, Irene Anderson; Brothers Granville Layden, John Layden; Grandchildren Marcel, Jacob, Riley; the Compton. Elgar, and Tucker families as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral was held on Thursday, June 22nd, 2017 with Pastor George Burton officiating. Interment followed. SAUNDERS, CENITH

On November 17, 1924, Cenith Richards was born to Cyril and Mary Richards. On July 1st, 1947 she married Norman Saunders and together they raised seven children and one grandchild. She also had two children from a previous marriage. She was a faithful soldier of The Salvation Army for more than seventy years which she dearly loved and was quite active until her health failed. Mrs. Cenith Saunders of St. Anthony passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 10th day of June 2017, Mrs. Cenith Saunders was in her 92nd year. She leaves to mourn sadly missed and loving memoires her family Sylvia(Tommy), Louis(Betty), Marie(John), Lloyd(Elizabeth), Betty(Boyd), Calvin(Ellen), Edith(Winston), Olga(Larry), Paul(Sharon, Michelle(Dan), a number of Grandchildren, great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren, one sister Viola Patey including a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her Husband Norman, Brothers and Sisters, Grandson, Nephews and Nieces. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony followed by the funeral service which took place on Tuesday June 13th, 2017 at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony at 2:00pm with Captain Brown officiating. Passed away form this life surround by her family, to be forever with with the Lord, Mrs. Linda Cora Cassell of Englee NL. Linda Passed at the Health Science Center in St. Johns NL on the 2nd day of June, 2017, she was in her 64th year of life. Left behind with Hearts full of the joy and love she shared are her Husband Grant, her daughters Venica Cassell of Calgary AB, Tammy (Glenn) Canning of Englee NL, Gaye Cassell of Calgary AB, her sons Larry (Vicki) Cassell of Edmonton AB, Terry (Charmaine) Cassell of Birchy Bay NL, and Ernest (Kara) Cassell of Devon AB. Her parents Spurgeon and Marie Randell of Englee NL, sisters Sadie (Guy) Hopkins of Smoky Lake AB, and Vivian (Keith ) Kenney of Summerside PEI, her Brothers Wayne (Verna) Randell of Englee, Hedley (Irene) Randell of Lincoln NB, and Dixion (Kristine) Randell of Lloydminister AB, as will as 12 grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends.
