BURT, ROY JAMES

Passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on January 4, 2016 at the age of 56 years. Roy James Burt was born in St. Anthony on May 22nd, 1960 to the proud parents of Cecil and Dora Burt and graduated Harriott Curtis Collegiate in 1978. On June 17th, 1989 Roy married the love of his life, Joyce Seaward and on June 5th, 1998 they were blessed with the birth of their beautiful daughter Leanne Jessica and in 2009 Roy’s devoted four legged puppy Elbee joined their family. Roy was a devoted husband, amazing father, loving son, brother and a true friend to all who knew him. Roy worked for a number of years with Fishery Products and in 2010 he completed a Heavy Equipment Operator course and was employed as a Distributor with Professional Business Solutions/ Browning Harvey. Roy enjoyed the great outdoors and would always participate in such things as snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. Roy’s greatest love was hockey and he became a valuable player while attending school and later joined a senior league. Roy is predeceased by his parents Dora and Cecil Burt. He will be sadly missed by his family, wife Joyce, daughter Leanne, loyal companion Elbee, Mother in Law Nita, Brothers-Albert (Jo), Gary (Irene), Gus (Cora), Ern, Benson (Daphne) Sister Dorothy (Dennis), Brothers in law-Selwyn (Ivy) Charles (Gaye), Carl (Selma), Guy ( Karen), Sisters in law Marilyn, Eva (Riley) 22 nieces and nephews, Aunt Linda Tucker(Roy) Uncle Henry Kelloway (Gladys) cousins and a large circle of friends. Visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral took place on January 7, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Captain Brown officiating. Interment followed. JOHANNESSEN, JANE

Passed away peacefully on January 6, 2017 at the John M Gray Centre in St. Anthony at the age of 72 years. Jane was born in Ballerup, Denmark on the 21st of November 1944 to parents Svend Aage Johannessen and Lillian Johannessen (Rasmussen). She leaves to mourn her son Bradley, Sister Lisbeth, Niece Carina as well as many coworkers, friends, and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents. WOODFORD, KATHLEEN

Passed away on January 3, 2017 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 83 years. Kathleen was born in Grandois on February 6 1933.  The first born of Edward & Alice Alyward, she grew up on Fishot Island with her four sisters Teresa, Josephine, Marie and Gertie and with three brothers Francis, Edward and John.  Kathleen met the love of her life while teaching a Conche.  James Woodford and Kathleen were married on July 19 1953.  Tragically, James died at an early age while relocating the family to Goose Cove, leaving Kathleen to raise 13 children.  Kathleen was always very devoted to her faith and family.  She was at her happiest when the family were around her, especially on a Sunday, when everyone gathered at Mom’s for dinner. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her chiildren Leone, Josephine (Dan), Mary (John), Beth (Cyril), Alice (Wade), Bertha (Gregory), Matilda (Mark), Terry, Edward (Wendy Dale), Darren (Debbie), Wanda (David), James (Coleen), Keith (Gaye); 27 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great- Great Grandchild; siblings John (Pauline), Francis (Bernadette), Josephine (Dorm), Gertie (Ambrose), Marie (Bill); Sister-in-law Mildred McGrath as well as a large circle of nieces & nephews, family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband James, son Edward, her parents Edward & Alice, Brother Edward, Sisters Loretta and Theresa and son-in-law Dennis Troy. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral on January 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Fr. Lourdhu officiating. Cremation followed with burial taking place at another date. REID, ERIC JAMES

Passed away on January 2nd, 2017 at the John M. Gray Centre at the age of 56 years. Eric was born to Bartholomew and Velma Reid on October 14, 1960 in Englee, NL. He married Sharon Pittman on Sept 26, 1992 and they had three daughters; Lorna, Sandi, and Sarah. Eric started finishing with his father at the age of 16 and continued to do so until his surgery in September 2013. He also had a great passion for woodcutting and hunting. Many of his friends could tell endless stories of their adventures together with him. Eric had many friends and was well liked by everyone who knew him. He leaves to mourn his wife Sharon; Mother Velma; Daughters Lorna (Dion) Sexton, Sandi (Pete) Budgell, Sarah (Robert) Chaisson; Granddaughters Kylee and Koriana; Sisters Patricia (Dorman), Rowena (Nigel), Dora; Brothers Guy (Rowena), Raymond (Loretta), Alyvone (Mary), Willis, Don (Wanda) as well as a large circle of Family and Friends. He was predeceased by his father Bartholomew on November 5th, 2014. Eric slipped peacefully away into the presence of the Lord on January 2, 2017 at the John M. Grey Centre. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held on January 6, 2017 with Pastor Simms officiating. Interment followed. BUTT, WILLIAM

Passed away at the John M Grey Centre in St. Anthony on December 30th, 2016 at the age of 87 years. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in Port Hope Simpson from where the funeral service was held on January 3rd, 2017. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. BYRNE, FRANCIS MURRAY

Francis (Frank) Murray Byrne, 64, Born January 20th, 1952, in Conche, NL, died suddenly on December 24, 2016 in Croque, NL. Francis is survived by his loving wife Donna of 41 years, Daughter Melissa, husband Ian Rice, and a large circle of extended family and close friends. He loved God, his dog Brandy, fishing in his boat or out ski-dooing in the woods.  He was a special loving man who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In lieu flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Visitation was held at Barrett’s Funeral Home in St. Johns where cremation took place. Ashes were retained by the family. Memorial arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. LEWIS, HARRY JOSEPH

It is with deep sadness that the family of Harry Lewis announces his passing at the Labrador-Grenfell Health Centre in Roddickton on December 21, 2016 at the age of 86 years. Harry was born to Henry and Ellen (Power) Lewis on January 1, 1930. Harry lived a good, healthy life until three years ago when he was diagnosed with a terminal illness. He recovered from surgery and spent the next three years with his daughter Mary (Terry) Flynn) of Conche. Sadly, this fall his health began to deteriorate and he passed peacefully away at the Labrador-Grenfell Health Centre on December 21, 2016. He leaves to mourn his daughter Mary (terry) Flynn; sons Gerry (Loretta), Pat (Ratu), Gordon, and Brian; Grandchildren Stephanie, Cory, Paul, Kirby, Rosalee, Kyle, Alisha, Vanessa, Joshua, Danielle, Jeffrey, Bobby; Great-Grandchildren Emily, Alex, Nathan, Nicholas, Autumn, Hunter, Chloe, Sara, Max, Rory;  daughter-in-law Myrtle Lewis, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Rose; parents Ellen and Henry; brothers Albert, William, Bernard; sisters Elizabeth J, Alice, Madeline, Cecilia, Bridget, Amelia, Mary, Veronica, Elizabeth A.; sons Jerome and Paul Lewis; and 2 great-grandchildren, Ethan and Nathan Fly. Visitation took place from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Conche from where the funeral mass was celebrated at 9:30 AM on December 24, 2016 with Fr. Lourdhu officiating. SAUNDERS, NORMAN GARFIELD

Passed away at the John M Gray Centre in St. Anthony on December 19, 2016 at the age of 90 years. Norman Garfield Saunders was born on June 5, 1926 to Fred and Mary Saunders. On July 1, 1947 he married Cenith Richards and together they raised seven children and one grandchild. Norman worked for the Grenfell Association for forty-one years. He was a faithful soldier of the Salvation Army for more than seventy years and attended the church regularly until two months before his passing. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Cenith and family; Marie (John), Lloyd (Elizabeth), Betty (Boyd), Calvin (Ellen), Edith (Winston); Olga (Larry), Paul (Sharon), Michele (Dan); step children Sylvia (Tommy) and Louis (Betty). He was also blessed to have an extended family of half-brothers and sisters (Budgells) of Campbelton; two half-sisters Pearl Pilgrim and Mabel Canning of Deer Lake. A number of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and great-greatgrandchildren, as well as a large circle of friends. Norman was predeceased by his Father, Mother, his half sisters and brothers. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral service on December 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm which was held from the St. Anthony Salvation Army Church with Captain Brown officiating. POOLE, ELDRED

Passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on December 17, 2016 at the age of 71 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Sister Provie; Sisters-in-law Doris, Muriel, and Doreen as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews. Eldred was predeceased by his parents Mary and James Poole, Brothers George, Hubert, Leander, Albert, James; Sister Elizabeth; and sister-in-law Helen. Visitation was held from the Anglican Church in St. Lewis from where the funeral took place on Wednesday, December 21st, 2016 at 11:00 am with Rev. Pervez Baig officiating. Interment followed. CLEMENTS, MINNIE

Passed suddenly away on Dec. 19, 2016 Minnie Clements at the Connaigre Peninsula Community Health Centre, Harbour Brenton. She was predeceased by her husband Sidney Cassell and husband Randolph Clements. She leaves to mourn her daughters Joan (Bert) Hopkins and Doreen Cassell (Fred Reid); brother Boyce Winsor; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and her step-children and step-grandchildren and a circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Ben Brown will conduct the funeral service at Calvary Pentecostal Temple Roddickton on Thursday at 11:00 a.m., Dec. 22, 2016, from where visitation took place..  Interment to follow at Roddickton Pentecostal Cemetery.
