RANDELL, CECIL

Passed away peacefully at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on October 22, 2016 at the age of 83 years. Cecil was born to Joshua and Sophia Randell on December 17, 1932 in Williamsport, NL. He married Ida Randell on November 10, 1952 and they had five children; Barbara, Garry, Wayne, Jerry, and Barry. Keith was born to Barbara and Cecil, and Ida raised him as their own. Cecil and Ida resettled their family from Williamsport in 1969. They moved to Bide Arm for two years and then to Englee in 1971, where they built their home and raised their family. Cecil was a man who could put his hand to any job, a proper jack of all trades. There was no job that he would not take on. He was a home builder and also a boat builder. Over the years he worked on the whale plant, a whale boat, he sawed logs and even spent two years as a teacher. However, fishing was his calling. He leaves to mourn his Wife Ida, Daughter Barbara, Sons Garry (Brenda), Wayne (Marlene), Jerry, Barry (Kathy), Keith (Nadine) as well as six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of family and friends. Cecil was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and one sister. He was the last of his family. Cecil slipped peacefully away into the presence of the Lord on October 22 at the St. Anthony Hospital. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 with Major Collins officiating. Interment followed. SMITH, HARVEY NEHEMIAH EARLE

Passed away on October 21, 2016 at his Private Residence in Cooks Harbour at the age of 71 years. He leaves to mourn his Niece Tammy (Claude); Great-Niece Lilly; Nephew Ephriam (Jennifer); Brother Leavitt Smith; Sisters Linda Hedderson, Rose Desmaris (Keith). Marilyn Saunders, Jessie Coulbourne (Tony), Elsie Osmond, Lucinda Colbourne (Lorne); Nieces and Nephews Scott, Brett, Sharon, Mary, Marie, Stacey, Kim, Amy, Melanie, Michelle, Michael, Lori, Lorenda as well as many other great nieces and nephews; as well as special friends Alex, Alpheaus, and Julie Smith. He was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Florence Smith, Brother Stanley Smith, Nephew Levi Colbourne and Brothers-in-law William Hedderson and Havner Saunders. STRANGEMORE, MARJORIE

Passed away peacefully at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on October 21, 2016 at the age of 90 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and long memories her children: Monte (Christine), Rendell, Kevin (Marlene), Joy (Charles), Ivy Grace; Brothers Willis (Rita), Bruce, Albert, Morgan (Linda); Eight Grandchildren; Seven Great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Everton; her parents Frederick and Jane Colbourne; special Uncle John Colbourne; Sister Florence, Irene, and Beryl. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Passed away peacefully at St. Claire’s Mercy Hospital in St. Johns on October 19, 2016 at the age of 90 years. She leaves to mourn her children: Michael John (Madelyn), Theresa (Bud), William James (Jane), Mary (John Joe), Primus (Christine), Ronald (Gloria), Shelia (Hughie), Melvin (Mary), Maurice (Wanda), Eileen (Matthias), Christine (Royal), Lorraine (Lawrence); Brother Edmund (Irene); In-Laws Geraldine (Late William Lawless “Bill”). SIMMS, FANNIE

Passed away peacefully at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 87 years. Fannie Simms was born on March 14. 1929 to William and Annie Hancock of Roddickton. On December 14, 1944 she was married to Frederick Simms of Woodstock, NL and blessed with seven children. Fannie was a hard worked and for a number of years worked at the local fish plant. She was also a faithful member of LOBA for many years. Fannie was widowed at an early age (45) but continued to carry out her regular duties of running a home and raising a family alone. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her children Joy (Pleman) Weir, Grant (Margaret), Wilfred (Wavey), David (Judy), Shirley (Hedley) Randell, and Guy (Donna). She also leaves seventeen grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; Sisters Hazel Brenton, Irene Jacobs, Rowena Hopkins and a large circle of family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Simms and son George. Passed away at the Health Science Centre, St. John's in her 77th year.  She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her two sons:  Terrence (Lucy), Troy (Trudy), four daughters:  Regina (Larry), Jane (Louis), Trudy (Lyndon), Anne (Garfield). Grandchildren: Neil, Jody, Mark, Chad, Ryan, Jilda (Abbie), Hope, Gina, Zane, Daniel and Tristan. Wallace Dempster, 73, of Nameless Cove passed away at Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony on October 5th, 2016. Wallace had made the Ivy Durley Place his home for the past few months, where he soon made friends with the residents and staff. He was looking forward to spending the winter there with them. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his children Shawn (Connie), Shona (Amos), and his three grandchildren Kyle, Kendall, and Laci. He is predeceased by his wife Ellen, parents Maude & Richard, two brothers Baxter and Dudley, and two sisters Irene and Margaret. BARTLETT, BRIDGET (KEARNEY)

Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on September 30th, 2016. Bride was born in Croque; the youngest child of Francis and Catherine Kearney. In September 1951 she married Leo Bartlett of Fortune Arm and together they had twelve children, nineteen grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren. Bride spent most of her life as a devoted wife and mother. In 1972 the relocated to Griquet. Over the years Bride was a second mom to her children’s friends where her door was always open. She was employed at Fisher’s Products and Work until she retired. In 1991 she joined the St. Lunaire-Griquet Firettes and continued to support until 2015. Following her retirement she was instrumental in the opening of St. Monica’s Catholic Church and Cemetery in St. Lunaire-Griquet. In 2013 Bride moved into Shirley’s Haven in St. Anthony where she continued to be an active member of her new community. She was predeceased by her Husband Leo; Children Catherine, Ray, Kate, and Ben. Visitation was held at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in St. Lunaire-Griquet from where the funeral service was held on October 4. 2016 with Father Vitus Echedo Chidi officiating. Interment followed. COMPTON, JOHN THOMAS

John loved to fish and spending time with his family. Especially his son, daughter and grandchildren. His family was his life. During his life, John was a fisherman and worked many years at the Salt Fish Store. He also framed homes. John was also a member of the Orange Lodge, Pillar of the community and a member of the Salvation Army Englee Corps Men’s Fellowship. Mr. John Thomas Compton of Englee passed away at the Lion’s Manor Nursing Home in Portugal Cove, NL on the 17th day of September 2016 at the age of 74 years.
