PARRILL, FLOSSIE VICTORIA

Passed away peacefully at the John M. Gray Center on August 8, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Flossie Victoria (Taylor) Parrill was born on April 21st, 1922 in Raleigh to Harvey and Eva (Pynn) Taylor. On January 4th, 1941 she married the love of her life, Norman Parrill of Pines Cove. They made their home in St. Anthony raising 6 children. On Monday morning, August 8th, 2016, Flossie passed peacefully away with her family by her side. She leaves to mourn; one son Roy (Rachel), four daughters, Ena, Dorothy, Mary Ellen (Randy) and Jackie (Hayward). She leaves to mourn, also, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Norman, son Elijah, son-in-law Robert, parents Harvey and Eva, Brothers Elijah, Valen, Llewelyn, Ernest and sisters Bertha, Ellen, Evelyn, and Ivy. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony, the funeral took place on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 2:00 from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. Dinesh Gomes and Rev. ROBERTS, EVELYN REBECCA

Passed away at Curtis Memorial Hospital on August 5, 2016 at the age of 83 years. Evelyn Rebecca (Taylor) Roberts was born on May 3, 1933 at Raleigh to Allan and Deliah (Bessey) Taylor. On December 21, 1951 she married the love of her life, Wilfred Roberts of Quirpon. They made their home in Quirpon together raising 6 children. In 1972 they moved to St. Anthony, where she worked for many years with Fishery Products. After retirement she and Wilfred enjoyed time with their family and friends, their cabins and gardens and attending this church. Evelyn was a life member of the UCW. On Friday, August 5th Evelyn passed peacefully away after battling cancer, and went to be with the love of her life, with whom she spent 64 years. She is survived by her children Marie (Ralph), Cecil (Jessie), Stafford (Patricia), Wavey (Dean), Keith (Marie), Kevin (Debbie), 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by sisters, Elvie (Cyril) Campbell, Selma Taylor and Grace Taylor, her brother-in-law George, sister-in-law Peggy Taylor many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred, her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral which was held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dinesh Gomes and Rev. John McGonigle officiating. PILGRIM, BEATRICE VIOLET

Passed away at the White Bay Health Centre in Roddickton on July 25, 2016 at the age of 73 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Earl Pilgrim; Sons Caesar (Barbara) Pilgrim, Baine (Nancy) Pilgrim, Norman (Marsha) Pilgrim; Daughter Nadine (Ian) Ellsworth; Brothers Allan (Olive) Compton, Joe (Christine) Compton, Ross (Carrie) Compton; Sisters Louise Simms, Daisy (Ross) Decker, Anne (Grand) Hancock, nine Grandchildren, three great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of many other relatives and friends. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Christopher Hewlett officiating. TROY, VINCENT LEO

Passed away on July 23, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Vincent was born in Goose Cove, March 4, 1939 to Rita and Peter Troy. He was a very quiet man that was dearly loved by family and friends. Some of his favourite things were playing cards and playing bingo with his friends at the complex, and going for car rides. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his Daughters Diane and Carol (Paul); Brothers Mike, Felix (Edna), Garry (Flo); Brother-in-law Will Cull; Sisters Minnie, Gertie (Bax); Sister-in-law Leone; Grandchildren Jason, Kirby, Tyler, and Cooper as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Rita and Peter Troy; Sister Ann Cull; Brother Dennis Troy; and brother-in-law Pat Walsh. Visitation took place at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St Anthony beginning Sunday, July 24, 2016 and continuing on Monday, July 25, 2016. HUGHES, ROLAND

Passed away on July 20, 2016 at the age of 78 years. He leaves to mourn his Son Roderick Noseworthy (Kaye); Grandchildren Tyler and Sabrina Noseworthy; Great-Granddaughter Jayme Noseworthy; Siblings Amy (Stanley) Coates, William Hughes, Israel (Frances) Hughes, Nathanial (Patsy) Hughes, Elva Caddy, Beulah (David) Wells, Sheila (Frank) Whalen, Winston (Mona) Hughes; Sister-in-laws Vera and Phoebe Hughes as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Bridget Hughes; Siblings Stella, Mariah, Baxter, Claude and Whyman; sister-in-law’s Rosie and Margaret Hughes; and brother-in-law Orval Neil Caddy. Visitation took place from St. Andrew’s Church in Lower Cove from where the funeral service was held at 2:00 pm on July 23, 2016 with Rev. Omar Reyes officiating. RANDELL, NORMAN

Passed away on July 14, 2016 at the John M Gray Center in St. Anthony at the age of 83 years. Norman was born on October 7, 1932 to the late Matthew & Bertha Randell of Whooping Harbour. He married the love of his life, Matilda Compton of Englee on November 15th, 1955. Together they raised 7 children, Wanda, Gideon (Judy), Ambrose, Vay (Christine), David (Sharon), Nelson (Deceased) and Osborne (Roxanne). Norman began his working career as a fisherman. He did this for many years and during the winter months he was employed by Bowaters and other companies as a cook. He spent several years cooking on the coastal boats and the whaling plant in Williamsport.  Norman leaves to mourn 6 children, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 half-sister Edith Newman (Wilfred), 1 son in law Kevin and daughter in law Gloria and a large number of close family and friends. He is predeceased by his wife, his son, his parents, 2 brothers and 2 half-brothers. Visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in Englee from where the funeral was held on Monday, July 18, 2016 with Majors Ross and Brenda Bungay officiating. Interment followed in the Old Salvation Army Cemetery in Englee. In Lieu of flowers donation may be made to the family for distribution among local youth groups. PATEY, JACOB

Passed away on July 9, 2016 at the age of 97 years. Jacob Patey was born in Quirpon on April 26th, 1919 to Moses and Clara Patey. It was there he met Beatrice Roberts and was married in 1944. Together they had 11 children. He leaves to mourn his sons Donald (Grace), Enos (Karen); Daughters Stella (Ralph), Elsie (Carl), Gladys (Truman), Nina (Gerald), Millie (Whyman), Pansy (Ross), Triffie (Harrison); Daughter-in-law Karen Patey; Sister Blanche Strickland, Brother Arch Patey; 27 Grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his Wife Beatrice; Sons Clayton & Baxter; Sisters Louise & Una; Brothers Gideon, Clarence & Lloyd; and Son-In-Law Ernest Patey. Visitation began at Kerry m. Fillatre’s Funeral Home and then moved to Central United Church on Quirpon Branch from where the funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Major Bungay officiating. BLAKE, MABLE (NÉE HEDDERSON)

Passed away on July 8, 2016 at the age of 79 years. Along with her twin sister Millie, Mabel was born the last of ten children to Sarah (Patey) and George Hedderson of Straitsview. On January 24, 1956 she married Carson Blake of Straitsview. Together they raised four children and were blessed with six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her Sons Cyril (Barbara), George (Sandra); Daughters Christine (Wilfred), Norma (Dallas); Sister Millie; Sisters-in-law Mae and Nellie Hedderson; Grandchildren Jennifer (Neil), Dustin (Charlene), Mitch (Angel), Christopher, Cameron, Maria; Great-Grandchildren Keira, Eric. Frederick, Shelby, Kenzie; special friend Francis Blake as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Mabel was predeceased by her husband Carson in 1996, and by her brothers Augustus, Willis, Gordon, Ed, Sisters Eliza, Irene, Vida, and Florie. Visitation was held at Central United Church on Quirpon branch from where the funeral was held on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 2:00pm with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. RICKS, GERALD DUNCAN

Passed away on June 2, 2016 at the age of 81 years. Gerald Ricks was born on September 3, 1934 in Goose Cove to Frances & Darius Ricks. On October 27, 1958, he married Carmel Bromley and together they raised eleven children. Gerald was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gerald had a variety of work experiences in his life. They included logging, fishing, carpentry, construction, and heavy equipment operator. He could turn his hand to anything- I guess we would consider him a “jack of all trades.” Gerald had a unique ability to tell stories about things that happened in his life and the many people he met along life’s journey. In his retirement, Gerald enjoyed spending time in his gardens and ski-doing in winter. He loved driving his truck and spending time on the community wharf. He also loved his “morning meetings” in Edward Reardon’s stage. As well, he always looked forward to visiting his sister, Angela and husband Ron every Sunday morning. In 2003, Gerald met Juanita Powell and for the past 13 years have had a very happy and fulfilled life together. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. He leaves to mourn his Children Nellie, Judy (Cyril), Philomena (Ralph), Joyce, Sharon (Steve), Daphne, Geraldine (Todd), Ross (Melissa), Roy (Treena), Ron (Heather), Robert; Partner Juanita and her children Todd and Marilyn; 19 Grandchildren; 3 Great- Grandchildren; his lovable buddy Wince, and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Carmel, parents Darius & Francis Ricks; Brother Ron; Sisters Eileen and Theresa; Son-in-law Bill; and Grandson Justin. Visitation was held a Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral was held in the Roman Catholic Church in Goose Cove at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 with Fr. Vitus Echedo officiating. Interment followed. DENNEY, CORDELLIA V.

Passed away on July 2, 2016 at the age of 79. Cordellia was born July 8, 1836 to Andrew & Emma (Amy) Canning of Roddickton.  She married Fred Denney of Englee and raised their only son Everett. Cordellia was a very special soul with a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and have fun.  She loved her family dearly, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special to her. She leaves to mourn her Son Everett (Tina), Grandchildren -Christa, Megan & Nathan, Great Grandchildren - Noah & Hunter.  Brother Simon Canning (Clara), Sisters Dorcas Cassell (Hubert) and Dora Eddison (Fred) along with a large circle of friends and relatives. She was Predeceased by her Husband Fred Denney, Parents Andrew & Emma (Amy) Canning, Brothers Donald, Arthur & Walter Canning and Sister Ruby Canning Pollard.  The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Calvary Pentecostal Church in Roddickton, with Pastor Ben Brown officiating.
