GIBBONS, MERONA MARGARET

Passed away on April 3, 2016 at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at 75 years of age. Born April 15, 1940 to Leander and Minnie Mitchelmore of Green Island Cove. In 1946 her family moved to Main Brook. In 1959 she moved to St. John’s to work in the hospital. There she met her husband, David Gibbons. They married on May 15, 1961. In 1962 she moved back to Main Brook to start her family. She had three daughters and two sons. In 1970 she started her own business, “Gibbon’s & Sons.” In 2000 she retired. She leaves to mourn her Sons David (Gloria) Gibbons, James Gibbons; Daughters Donna Gibbons (Faron Caines), Shirley (Graham) Powell; Grandchildren Shawna Colbourne, Mark Powell, Darren Patey, and Derek Patey; Great-Grandchildren Jenna Coulbourne, Monica Kelloway-Gibbons, Jackson Powell; Brothers Primus Mitchelmore, Baxter (Melinda) Mitchelmore, Harvey (Marilyn) Mitchelmore; Sisters Shirley Simms, Sybil (Lloyd) Piercey, and Inga (Leslie) Coombs. She is predeceased by her Husband David Gibbons Sr.; Daughter Roberta Mitchelmore; Grandson Scott Gibbons; Parents Leander and Minnie Mitchelmore; Brothers Howard Mitchelmore, Trueman Mitchelmore; Brother-in-law Sterling Simms; and Sister-in-law Mae Mitchelmore. Visitation was held at St. Marks Anglican Church from where the funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Fr. Lourdhu officiating. Interment  followed at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Main Brook. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. FILLIER, WILBURN EDWARD

Passed away at White Bay Regional Health Centre on March 29, 2016. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Joan; Son Dexter; Brothers Rifford (Gaye) Fillier, Edwin (Minnie) Fillier (Twin), and Eric (Jessie) Fillier; and Sister Mae (Thomas) Waskiewicz. The funeral took place on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton with Rev. Christopher Hewlett officiating. Interment followed in the Roddickton Apostolic Faith Cemetery. WOODWARD, MARGARET MARY

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Woodward at Charles S.  Curtis Memorial Hospital on March 26, 2016 at the age of 73 surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband William Woodward, parents- Clara and Noah Woodward, sisters - Elizabeth, Vina, Nellie, and Rosmond, brothers - Theophilus and Noah. Leaving to mourn with loving memories is her son Rod (Charlotte), daughters - Cindy (Graham), Sandra (Steve) and Jennie (Dean). Grandchildren - Chelsea, Nicholas, William, Heidi, Dillon and Hailey. Very special companion George Smith. Sisters- Hope (Lorne) and Elvia (David). Brother - John and nephew - Trevor (Louise). Also leaving to mourn a big circle of family and friends. Visitation was held at the Funeral Home in St. Anthony after which the funeral service was held at 11:00am on Wednesday the 30th day of March 2016 with Rev’d Fr. Paul Findlay officiating. RUSSELL, VERA BLANCHE


Vera Blanche Russell (nee Burden) daughter of Charles and Clarice Burden was born August 27th, 1945 in George’s Cove, NL. She was one of nine children. On April 13, 1966 she married the love of her life James. Together they raised five children, Perry, Marilyn, Darrell, Denise, and James. On February 24, 2016, Vera passed peacefully away at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony after a courageous battle with cancer. She spent her life caring and loving her family that surrounded her. She leaves to mourn with heavy hearts and loving memories her children Perry (Paula), Marilyn (Junior), Darrell, Denise (Derek), and James (Collette); her grandchildren Shannon, Stephanie, James, and Amy; great-grandchildren Hunter and Hannah; her seven sisters, one brother, and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves her special friend Jeff Pardy. Vera was predeceased by her Husband James Russell, Grandson David Burden, Sister Ina Turnbull, and Parents Charles and Clarice Burden. March 24, 1924 to March 18, 2016

Helen was born in Great Brehat on March 24, 1924 to Thomas and Emily Jane Cull. She lived her young life in Great Brehat, and then moved to L’Anse aux Meadows, where she married the love of her life, Job Anderson. They raised one child, Delena, whom they cherished more Than life itself. Helen peacefully passed away at the John M. Gray Centre at 4:45 AM Friday, March 18th, 2016. It is with great sadness that the family of Frances Carol (Patey) Hedderson announces her passing on March 16, 2016 at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 91 years. Frances was born and raised in St. Anthony, and she went on to be a Teacher in North West River, and then Noddy Bay. It was in Noddy Bay that she met her husband Garland. They settled in Hay Cove and raised a family of twelve. Her most joyful moments were when all the family was home sitting around the kitchen table. Frances loved going to Church,

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 13th day of March 2016. Mr. Samuel Compton of Roddickton was in his 84th year. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mr. Garry George Pilgrim announce his sudden passing at his home in Main Brook on the 11th day of March 2016. Mr. Garry G. Pilgrim was in his 64th year. He was predeceased by his Mother Eliza Pilgrim, Father Cecil Pilgrim, Brother Ricky, and Father-in-law Charles Hancock. Visitation was held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in Main Brook from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 14th day of March 2016 with Lt. Randy Shears officiating. PILGRIM, GEORGE BRAMWELL

George Bramwell Pilgrim was born November 16, 1925 to Lucy and Bramwell Pilgrim. September 11,1959 he married the love of his life Margaret Hussey. He lived in Little Brehat where he fished until 1961. He then resettled to St. Anthony and fished for a while then took up employment as night watchman at The College of the North Atlantic retiring at the age of 65. Through his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting, berry picking, gardening, playing cards, catching smelts for their cat Tigger and singing Christian Hymns. George passed away into peace on the Second of march, 2016, he Leaves to mourn Sister Maisie, sister in law Maisie (Morgan) Morgans Predeceased by His wife of 51 years Margaret, his parents, brothers Donald (Violet) Spurgeon ( Jemima), sisters Valetta (Reuben) Cull, Florrie (Abram) Richards, and brother in law Clem. Visitation was held at the Funeral home in St. Anthony, after which the funeral service was held at the St. Anthony United Church at 2:00pm on the 5th of March with Rev. Dinesh Gomes Officiating. APPLIN, WILLIAM

It is with great sadness that the family of William Applin announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, March 1st, 2016 at Charles S.
