ELLIOTT, SAMUEL

Samuel Elliott Sr. was born July 9th, 1934 to Gordon and Mae (Bessey) Elliott
of Raleigh, NL. He grew up in Raleigh with his sister and 7 brothers until he
came to Port Au Choix looking for the woman of his dreams. He found her and they got married November 30th,1963. They made a home and raised their 2 sons and 2 daughters in Port au Choix. He worked at FPI for 36 years, most of them as a watchman where he fed many of his co workers from the electric frying pan. He was a dedicated family man who provided for his family with kindness and patience and was well respected by many as
they considered him “ the gentle giant”. He deeply loved a game of cards; especially if he was winning! Through all his sickness he always kept a positive attitude but despite his 4 year fight against the dreadful disease he passed away on Sunday, September 13th,2015. He is survived by his wife Christine of nearly 52 years, his sons Sam(jr), Kevin (Sherry-Lynn), his daughters Melita (Bob), Mae (Vince), his 6 grandchildren, Joshua, Allyson, Wyatt, Kaitlin, Skyler and Chayce, his sister Vida( Ross), brothers Reginald (Irene), Weldon (Alma), Garland (Pansy), Max (Judy),Winston (Cindy) and Alvin (Yvonne). Pre- deceased by his father Gordon, mother Mae, sister Selma and brother Wayne. Visitation Was held at the Roman Catholic Church in Port Aux Choix, from which the Funeral Mass was held at 1030am on the 17th of September with Fr. Raj Officiating. Burial followed the Service in the Sandy Cove Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director. 

LAWLESS, MICHAEL JOHN

Passed away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 14th Day of September 2015, Mr. Michael John Lawless of Flower’s Cove was in his 75th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Rosie Lawless, Children Kevin (Michelle), Robert Jock(Myrtle), Michael Jr. (Karen), Perry(Sandee), Patty(John), Kelly,  Grandchildren Scott, Randy, Robyn, Alyx, Mackenzie, Tori, Trisha, Evan, Ava and Piper, Great Grandchildren Rebecca, Logan, and Sophia and Sister Christine Richards(Roy)as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his Mother Harriet Carnell (nee Lawless), and his Step-Father Roy Carnell. Visitation was held at the Our Lady of the Snow Roman Catholic church in Flower’s Cove from which the funeral mass was held at 2:00pm on Thursday the 17th day of September 2015 with Fr. Bosco officiating. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Nameless Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. BILES, MAXWELL

Passed peacefully away after a short illness at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on September 11th, 2015, Maxwell Henry Biles of St. Anthony, NL in his 90th year. Max was a fisherman and carpenter before his retirement. He was a member of the choir at St. Anthony United Church for 50 years, a member of the church’s board of session and a long-time member of the Loyal Orange Lodge.
Max loved his family and his church, building model boats, hunting, salmon fishing, picking berries, playing cards, reading; watching boxing, hockey and wrestling.
Max leaves to mourn his four daughters; Joan Rumbolt, Eileen Reeves, Celeste Thompson-Vey (Bruce Vey) and Maxine Earle (Junior). Grandchildren; Curtis Rumbolt, Annette Rumbolt, Paulette (Allister) Russell, Jeanette Dwight) Russell, Paul (Brenda) Reeves, Terry (Sherry) Reeves, Rodney (Susan) Thompson, Colin (Melissa) Thompson, Denise (Robin) Collier, Jennifer Earle and Justin Earle. Great-Grandchildren; Marijke den Otter-Rumbolt, Terri (Allan) Healey, Kimberly Russell, Kelly Russell, Kassidy Russell, McKenzie Russell, Marc Russell, Julie (Terry) Wolfe, Jamie Reeves, Victoria Thompson, Miranda Thompson, Gabriel Thompson, Orianna Thompson, Reece Thompson, Christins Collier, Mya Collier and Teyla Collier. Great-great-grandchildren; Ava Rumbolt, Jayce Wolfe and Ethan Wolfe. Brother in law Wilfred Boyd, sisters in law Lizzie Boyd and Flora Dean. Visitation was held at the St. Anthony United Church from where the funeral Service was held at 2:00pm on September 15th, 2015 with Rev. Dinesh Gomes officiating. GILLARD, FLORA CHRISTINA

Passed away peacefully surrounded by family, at the age of 93, on September 8, 2015. Christina was born in Canada Harbour, NL to Robert and Eliza (nee Gale) Edgar on March 20, 1922. She was the last surviving member of her family, being predeceased by siblings Jessie (James), Dulcie (Stewart), Edith (Donald), Mary (Ross), Beatrice (Cecil), Joseph (Pauline) and Alma (Kenneth). Christina was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert L. Gillard (1987) and son-in-law, Calvin Newman. She will be greatly missed by her children: Maxine (Frank), Robert E. (Margaret), Diana (Calvin), Reta (Guy), Helga (Hoodie) and Douglas (Brenda); grandchildren: Vanessa, Treena, Dana, Robert, Kathryn, Jonathan, Karen, Amanda, Heather, Didi and Lance, André and Melanie (and their mother, Mona); 13 great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the Resident Care Manager - Rod Hayward, the Rev. Elsie Squires, Dr. Chehadi Kareem, the medical staff and the caregivers at Masonic Park Nursing Home for the exceptional care they provided with compassion and dignity during Christina’s passing. ELMS, LEWIS REGINALD

Passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 5th day of September 2015, Mr. Lewis Elms of St. Lunaire-Griquet was in his 90th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Jessie, Daughters Joan (Art), Jean (Barry), Dawn (Ron), Grandchildren Stefan (Dixie-Lee) and Kayla (Devon), as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Luke and Bertha Elms, four Brothers and his Four Sisters. FLYNN, CLIFFORD

He was born March 28, 1935 in Forteau Labrador. He married Sophia Una Chambers on October 20, 1957. Together they raised their two daughters in Blue Cove.  He worked as the lighthouse keeper on Belle Island for Thirty-five years.He passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 3rd day of September 2015, Mr. Clifford Flynn of Blue Cove was in his 80th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of Fifty-Seven years Sophia Una (Chambers) Flynn, his children Daisy(Vaughan), Samantha(Lyndon), Grandchildren Avery Cunard, Joshua Cunard, Brothers Clarance (Harrett), William(Lousia), Eric(Clara), Sisters Una(Lloyde), Phyllis(Kenneth), Sister-in-Laws Mary and Sue as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his Father Edward Flynn, Mother Pearl Flynn, and his Brothers Robert and Almond. Visitation was held at the Church of Advent in Plum Point from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Monday September 7, 2015 with Rev. Harold Harvey officiating. CAINES, CECIL

Passed away suddenly but peacefully on September 2, 2015, Mr. Cecil Caines of Bird Cove was in his 56th year. Left to  mourn but with cherished memories are his brothers  Leo(Marjorie) , Gord(Anita) Peter,  Doug,  Ralph; sisters Cecilia(Mike), Effie(Mike), Liz(Rodney), nieces  and nephews Michelle, Craig, Dwayne, Gordie, Geoffrey and Stacey; also a large number of aunts ,uncles, cousins and friends. We will miss his presence. Predeceased by his father, Peter Caines and mother, Johanna Caines. Visitation was held at the Our Lady of Grace Church in Bird Cove from which the funeral mass was held on Monday September 7, 2015 @ 11:00am with Fr. Bosco officiating. HEDDERSON, MADELINE EMMA PEARL

Passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on August 30, 2015, Madeline Hedderson in her 68th year. She leaves to mourn daughter Diane (Eric); sons Jeffrey (Marlene), Jim (Pauline), Gordon (Cathy), and Jonathan (Jessica); special grandson Steven (Tamara); special friend Virginia; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers Caleb (Margret), and Philip; sisters Louise (Jim), Rita (Ray), and Margret. She was predeceased by her husband Hector Hedderson, son William Hedderson, parents William and Sarah Bridger, Brother John Bridger, sisters Gloria Fillier, Annie Larkin and Elizabeth Mugford. Visitation took place at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony after which the funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2 with Father Paul Findlay officiating. REGULAR, HELEN MAY

She was born April 26, 1928 at Shi Cove, WB. She married Archibald Regular on December 4, 1944. Together they raised eleven children. Helen worked at the fish plant in St. Anthony for thirteen years until she retired in June 1987. She loved to garden and enjoyed her flowers. She enjoyed knitting and other crafts. She was a faithful church goer and taught Sunday school for Twenty-one years. She leaves to mourn her sons Weldon(Laura), John(Leona), Les(Rhoda), Paul(Mona), Daughters Selma Fowler(Francis Hedderson), Loretta(Frank Morris), Joan(Nelson Humby), Pam(Ronald Patey), Gwen(Tom Francis) and Wavey(Kevin Parr), Daughter-in-Law Sylvia, She had a large number of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren, Brother Willie(Irene Tucker), Sister Gladys(Max Anderson) as well as large circle of family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Archibald, Daughter Lillian, Son Newton, Brother Hayward Tucker, Sister Doris Tucker, her parents Henry and Lucy (Bessey) Tucker. Visitation was held at the Grace Pentecostal Tabernacle in Ship Cove from where the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Tuesday September 1, 2015 with Pastor Joy Baker Officiating.
