FILLIER, EMILY ETHEL CAROLYN

April 30, 1925 - June 26, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ethel Fillier announce her passing on June 25th 2024 at "White Bay Health Centre" in Roddickton, NL. in her 99th year, with her family by her side.

Born to Matthew and Emmeline (nee Reid) Denney on April 30th 1925. Ethel, raised in Englee, NL, Loved and adored her children.

Left to mourn with found and loving memories are her children; six of her seven sons: Alex, Edgar (Betty), Jack (Patricia), Eugene, Morgan (Teena) and Kirby; Two daughters: Florence (Flo) (Richard) and Doris (Bob). She will be missed by her Step-brother Leonard Fillier from Ontario and especially missed by her 23 Grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and many Great - Great - Grandchildren.

Predeceased By: Matthew and Emmeline (nee Reid) Denney (Parents), Clancy (Husband), son Junior (Don) and grandson Tyson Fillier.

Ethel was predeceased by her husband Clancy; son: Junior (Don); grandson: Tyson Fillier; and her parents: Matthew and Emmeline (nee Reid) Denney.

Visitation to take place from the Pentecostal Church in Englee, NL beginning on Friday, June 28, 2024 for 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Andrews officiating. Interment to follow.

MITCHELMORE, GRAYDON

April 1, 1939 - June 25, 2024

Is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Graydon Mitchelmore. He passed with his daughter Jill by his side. Born April 1st to Thomas and Mamie Ellen. He was the eldest of 6 kids.

Graydon was devoted husband, Daddy, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He was a family man and worked hard to provide for his family. He worked many years in Lab City where he was away from his family to provide for them and give them the best life possible. After retirement he liked to keep busy.  He cut all his wood for the winter, tending his gardens, and kept his lawns nice and trimmed and working on anything that needed to be done. He took a lot of pride in everything he did. 

He had a deep love of animals and passed that love down through his family.  At times we think he loved the pets as much as he loved the rest of the family. He has returned to be with the love of his life and is now at peace. 

He is survived by Son: Jasper; Daughters Jill and May; Grandchildren: Graydon (Tammy), Deanie, Michael, Tammy; Great grandchildren Darrius and Marcus; Sisters: Myrtle (Ren), Bertha, and Velma (Wally); Brother-in-laws: John Thomas (Winnie), Vincent (Jessie) and Marcelle (Eura). He will be missed by many of his furry grandkids, especially River.

He is predeceased by his wife Rhoda Susan, his son Dean, his grandparents George and Sarah, mom and dad Thomas and Mamie Ellen, Brother’s Maitland and Harvey. Sister-in-laws Millicent, Maisie and Mamie Ellen (Lambert).

Visitation to take place from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Lower Cove on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Artur Kinsella officiating. Interment to follow.

SYMMONDS, MICHAEL JOSEPH

December 21, 1946 - June 23, 2024

Passed peacefully away in the presence of his family at White Bay Central Hospital in Roddickton at the age of 77 years. He is fondly remembered for his love of music and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents: Jack and Kathlene; and Brothers: John and Tony.

The family would like to thank the staff at Curtis Memorial and Roddickton Hospital for making him comfortable in his last day.

NEWMAN, FREDERICK


April 25, 1942 - June 20, 2024

Fredrick was born on April 25th, 1942, to Ben and Gertrude Gillard of Englee, NL. At the age of 2 months his mom died of Tuberculosis (TB) he was Adopted into the Newman family to Cecil and Ameta Newman. This brings such a large number of relatives to Fredrick's family where each and everyone of them are dear to Newman family. He grew up In Englee, Newfoundland and Labrador and remained there for his entire life except for the past month where he was admitted to the hospital in St. Anthony, Newfoundland due to his illness.

At the age of 16 years old Fredrick met the love of his life Alton Newman and they were married on August 31st, 1965 which continued for another wonderful 58 years. Together they had three sons Ransey Newman, Robert Newman, and Travis Newman.

His life was based around the fishing industry also he loved living close to the water and had such an amazing view from his home. He worked in the fish store in Englee, NL for 23 years while fishing part time. After this time, he felt the need to buy is own fishing vessel to support his family and fished full time until he retired in the fall of 1998.

In the fall of 1998 He gave his life back to the Lord and became an active member of the Salvation Army Church in Englee, NL until he could no longer attend due to his illness. Regardless he remained faithful to God while at home with his loving wife before being admitted in the St. Anthony Hospital on May 16th, 2024 where he remained until he went to his heavenly home on June 20th, 2024.

Fredrick Leaves to Mourn his wife of 58 years Alton Newman of Englee, NL; his three sons: Ransey (Sherry) Newman, Robert (Madeline) Newman and Travis (Alva) Newman; Grandchildren: Coutney Newman, Chantel Newman, Calvin Cassell, Jarrett Newman, Colin Newman, and Carmen Newman; 1 Great-Grandchild Memphis Torresan. He also leaves to mourn his siblings: Wilfred Gillard, Dorothy Wells, Carmel Waldron, Ben Gillard, Gregory Gillard, and Joy Ellsworth. Also included in his family is his two stepbrothers: Shem Newman and Colin Newman; two stepsisters: Alzena Ellsworth and Jane Denny who are both deceased; and Sisters-in-law: Velma Simms and Christine Fillier. Fredrick has a large number of family and friends whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will take place from the Salvation Army Church in Englee on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Major Crocker officiating. Interment to follow.

FITZGERALD, GERALD DANIEL

November 25, 1930 - June 13, 2024

Passed away peacefully in the presence of his family at the Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, NL on June 13, 2024,  Mr. Gerald Daniel Fitzgerald

Predeceased by his wife Ellen (Nellie), his son Stan, daughter Helena, grandson Trevor and his sister Evangeline.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his children; Mary (Henry), Linda, Judy (Paul), Elizabeth (Michael). His siblings; Ida, Alicia, Stan, and Annie. Ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild. Special cousin Dan. As well as a large circle of nieces/nephews and extended family and friends. 

The family would like to thank the staff at the Curtis Memorial Hospital for the excellent care and comfort to Gerald and the family. 

Visitation will take place from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 7-9 PM. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Fr. George officiating. Interment to follow.

DRUDGE, PARTICK GEORGE

Patrick George Drudge passed peacefully away on June 13 at Charles. S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family, at the age of 91. Patrick was born to John and Ellen (Kearney) Drudge in Grandois and was the second eldest of 7 children. He lived his life in Grandois before moving to Goose Cove in the 1970’s.

Patrick was predeceased by his parents, John and Ellen, brothers Clifford (Mary Theresa) Kearney, John (Evangeline) Drudge, Sisters Anastasia (Albert) Chaytor, and Edna Drudge. Sister in law Mary Theresa Kearney and Brother in law Albert Chaytor.

Patrick leaves with loving memories his sisters Bridget (John) Murrin and Anne (Wayne) Sedore, sister-in-law Evangeline, his brother William who was his best friend, caretaker and support throughout his life, as well as his many nieces and nephews, whom he adored as they did him.

The family would like to thank:

Compassionate Home Care, your support during the last years of his life was the very best and we could not have managed to provide him with the comforts of home for as long as we did without you all. He so enjoyed the support and the daily special wave from one of his workers, Thank you.

The staff at Shirley’s Haven, our sincere thanks for the wonderful care you gave him and the support to us during his short stay.

To the doctors, nurses, social worker, dietary and EVS staff at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, Thank you. The expert care given, the compassion to assist us in care decisions and the care during his final days was so greatly appreciated. Your work is difficult but we can’t thank you enough for all you have done for Patrick and us.

To Uncle Bill, thank you for always being there, for your companionship, cooking skills and support. We love you.

Patrick was a quiet man who loved his family and enjoyed the simple aspects of life. He had a great sense of humour and was generous to all those around him. He had a way about him that caused all those who met him to love him and although quiet, he was able to form strong bonds with many who met him. He was the best Uncle, gave the best hugs and had the most beautiful smiling blue eyes. We will miss him terribly but know how fortunate we were.

Visitation Is being held at the funeral home in St. Anthony on Tuesday June 18th, 2024 form 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm, Wednesday June 19th from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9pm followed by Funeral Mass at 2pm on Thursday June 20th form the Goose Cove Roman Catholic Church, Burial will follow in the Community Cemetery.

HODDINOTT, PLEMAN HORACE

March 8, 1931 – June 13, 2024

Passed peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, surrounded by his loving wife and children, at the age of 93 years.

Pleman was born in Brig Bay to Lillian Maude and William James Hoddinott, one of 11 children. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to 8 children, Joy (Baden), Annette (John), Clayton (4 days old), Pleman (Darlene), Della, (Dexter), Shawnie (Ron) Daisy (Rob), Rick (Terri) and his 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was a very dedicated husband/father who tirelessly provided for his family by engaging in forestry, fishing, and showing movies up and down the coast, across the straits, on the Labrador, and on the Quebec shore, with his brother Clyde. He was a mechanic with Lundrigan’s until he purchased his own dump trucks. He also had a contract with Canada Post to deliver the mail to Roddickton Bide Arm/Englee area for over 20 years.

In retirement he enjoyed his well-deserved break by gardening, going for long walks, taking trips to visit family, and by cutting and hauling wood for his woodstove.

He will be greatly missed by his wife and entire family. We will miss his humor, his gratefulness, graciousness and love. Our precious memories will be with us forever, always in our hearts.

Visitation took place at the Church of the Advent in Plum Point, followed by the funeral service on Saturday June 15th, 2024 at 2pm with Rev. Canon Terrance Coates officiating.

ELLIOTT, MARY

It is with great sadness that the Family of Mary Elliott announce her passing at Corner Brook Long-term on the 12th of June, 2024.
Mary met George (the love of her life) when she moved to Locks Cove to teach, soon (June 26th, 1946) they were married. They raised eight children.
Mom was the rock of our family and was great at many things, including sewing, knitting, cooking and baking. meals were always prepared for the family. She was also involved in the ACW, and sang in the choir.
Left to mourn Mary’s passing, with a lifetime of wonderful memories are; her children Guy Elliott, Daphne Elliott (Gord), Melinda Mitchelmore, Marilyn Parrill, Wavey Strangemore (Mait), Juanita Elliott and Sharon Elliott; sixteen Grandchildren, twenty two Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Baxter and Delilah Dyke, her husband George Elliott, Son Lloyd Elliott and Sons in Law Alvin Parrill, Winston Johnson and Baxter Mitchelmore.
Visitation will be held at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Main Brook beginning Saturday Afternoon June 15th, 2024 and continuing through to the funeral service at 11am on Monday June 17th with Rev. Cannon Terrance Coates officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Community Cemetery.

July 8, 1945 - June 12, 2024

Passed peacefully away on June 12, 2024. at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 78 years, Christine Richards.
She will always be loved and remembered by her loving family; her Husband Roy, Children Jackie (Dave), Sheldon (Gina), Lois (Dennis), Michael (Joanne); her grandchildren Samantha, Amy, Lindsay, Larissa, Lauren, Mallory, Natasha and Zachary; her Great Grandchildren; Mya, Boedy and Owen; her Sister in Law Rosie Lawless, as well as many other extended family and friends.
Visitation is being held at the funeral home in St. Anthony form 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Thursday June 13th, 2024, followed by the funeral service at 11am on Friday June 14th, 2024 at the St. Mary’s Anglican church in St. Anthony NL with Rev. Arthur Kinsella Officiating. Burial will follow the service in the St. Carroll’s Anglican Cemetery.

April 28, 1950 - May 31, 2024

Passed away on May 31, 2024 at the Curtis S. Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 74 years, Bridget Tucker.

She will always be loved and remembered by her Sister: Vina (Don) Acreman; Brother: George, Angus (Annette); Niece: Geraldine (Blake) Wells; Brother-in-law: Ignatius Lawless; Special Friends: Marilyn (Weston) Whalen, their families, and other extended family and friends.

Bridget is predeceased by her Parents: Philip and Minnie; Sister: Sheila; Sister-in-law: Dulcie.

The funeral service will take place from the St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Flowers Cove on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating. Inurnment to follow at the Savage Cove Anglican Cemetery.
