ELLIOTT, OLIVE BESSIE

January 21, 1939 - April 6, 2023

Olive passed away peacefully on April 6th, 2023 in her 84th year, into the presence of her Lord and Savior whom she loved and served faithfully.

She proudly worked in her Grandfather Ollerhead’s store until the age of 16 when she moved to Stephenville and started working as a waitress.

After a few years of working she moved back to Main Brook where she met Francis Elliott. Olive and Francis were married in June of 1962 and together they raised a beautiful family, shared over 60 years of marriage until her passing. Olive was a godly woman who had a deep and devoted love for her family.

She leaves to mourn her devoted husband Francis Elliott, her daughter Catherine Bishop (Michael), her sons, Jack (Cathie), Paul (Donna), Russell (Ruth), Ronnie (Amy) and Calvin (Michelle). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Murray (Dana), Justin (Jenn), Robin (James), Ravyn (Jimmy), Delaney (Elliott), Avery, Camryn, Raymond (Carissa) and Jonathan (Carolanne). As well as her great-grandchildren Logan, Elliott J., Connor, Astrid and Elliott T. She also leaves behind her dear sisters Isabella Pilgrim (Leander) and Irene Earle (Fred). Olive will also be missed by a very large circle of extended family and friends.

Olive was predeceased by her loving parents Stanley and Ruth Ollerhead as well as her brothers James, Raymond and Roy.

Visitation to take place from the Pentecostal Church in Main Brook beginning the afternoon of Sunday, April 9, 2023 and will continue on Monday, April 10, 2023. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Skinner officiating. Interment to follow.

PENNEY, OLIVE

Passed away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial hospital on the 31st of December, 2019. She will be sadly missed by her lifelong friend and husband of 64 years, Tom, her son Jim Penney (Catherine), her daughter Debbie Anderson (Morgan), her three grandchildren, Gail Sexton(Mason), Jeffrey Anderson and Jonathan Anderson, her great granddaughter Ember Sexton, her brother Lloyd Tucker (Clara), stepsister Mary Kinsella (Gilbert), stepbrother Ford Pilgrim (Susan), brothers -in-law Roy Penney, Paul Penney (Becky), and Stewart Payne and a large circle of family and friends including her furry friends Jessie and Raya.

Predeceased: Father and mother, Gordon Tucker and Julie Ann Pilgrim, step-father Eric Pilgrim, father-in-law Clement Penney Sr., sisters in-law Selma Payne and Ivy Pilgrim.

Her memorial service was held at the St. Anthony United Church in St. Anthony at 11am on the 3rd of January, 2020 with the arch bishop Stewart Payne officiating. Burial followed the service at the Fishing point United Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres funeral home, st. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard funeral director.

COMPTON, OLIVE ADELAIDE ANETTA (nee HOPKINS)

January 1, 1934 - February 20, 2019

It is with great sadness that the Family of Olive Adelaide Anetta Compton nee Hopkins, announces her passing with her family by her side at Western Memorial Hospital on Feb 20, 2019, at the age of 85. Born on Jan 1st 1934 to the late Tammer and Jonas Hopkins of Englee. On March 25, 1953 she married Allan Compton. Olive will be remembered for her love of gardening. Her favourite pastime was going for a evening ride around town. She was a life long member of the Salvation Army Corps and Home League of Roddickton and Englee. Most of all she loved talking to her children daily to see how they are doing. She loved her Family very, very much. Her life will be forever cherished by her children Joan (Tony), Yvonne, Bernice (Edmund), Jean (Harold), Clyde (Babe), Lesa (Fergie), Connie (Jeff) ; Daughter in-law Sharon; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren as well as numerous family, dear friends and her very Special Friend, Rudy. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Allan and son, Robert. Special thanks to her friends and staff at the Dear Lake Manor over the past 2 years. The Family would like to Thank the many Doctors, especially Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Fudge and staff from all the floors and ICU and Palliative Care at Western Memorial Hospital who attended to our Mother. Visitation will take place at Salvation Army Corps in Englee on Feb 22, 2019 at 7 pm. Funeral Services will take place on Feb. 23, 2019 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Salvation Army Corps of Englee.

SIMMS, OLIVE

Passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on March 25th, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Olive Simms was born on April 25, 1921 in Great Brehat to Thomas and Jane Cull.  She was one of ten children. On December 18, 1940, she married Jacob Simms of St. Anthony Bight.  It was here that they lived and raised their two children, Celeste and Wes, and where Olive would live for the next nearly 77 years.  In 1971 Jacob died, and Olive continued on.  Olive was friendly out going person who had a lovely smile and a wonderful laugh. She was a faithful member of the St. Anthony Bight United Church, as well as a loyal member of the United Church Women and a faithful contributor to the Canadian Bible Society. On Saturday, March 25th, Olive passed peacefully away in the presence of her family. She is survived by her children Celeste (John) and Wes, as well as her grandchildren Wade (Sheila) and Brenda (Eric), great grandchildren Shawna (Ryan), Erika, Tony and Jodi and great-great grandchild Eva.  She is also survived by her brother Walter and sister Florrie. She was predeceased by her husband Jacob, her parents, her son-in-law Tony Cooper as well as three brothers and four sisters. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral on March 29th, 2017 at 2:00 pm from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. CASSELL, OLIVE GEORGINA

Olive was born in Englee on December 22, 1932 to James and Elizabeth Adams. She grew up with her brothers and sisters in Roddickton. She met and married Ralph Cassell on March 27, 1952 and they enjoyed 63 wonderful years together. She was a loving and compassionate person who dedicated her life to her family and helping others. She was generous to anyone who came to her door. She loved her family more than words can say. Her smile, humor and love will remain in our hearts. She will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her Loving Husband Ralph, her precious Children Lorne(Grace), Gary(Lilllian), Ruth(Wade), and Linda(Bramwell), Grandchildren Chad, Sarah, Darren, Desmond, Laura, Jessica, and Victoria, Great Grandchildren Anthony, Jade, Brianna, and Liam, her Siblings Charlie, Clara, Rowena, Jasper, Leamon, Dorman, Evelyn, Triffie, and Jerry as well as a large circle of family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents James and Elizabeth Adams, Her Siblings Millie and Jim and Grandson Deon. Visitation was held at the funeral home in Roddickton after which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Sunday November 8 2015 from the Pentecostal church in Roddickton with Lt. Randy Shears officiating. Interment followed in the Salvation Army Cemetery in Roddickton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. CULL, GRETA OLIVE

Passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 28th day of August 2014. Mrs. Greta Olive Cull of St. Anthony was in her 66th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Ernest, Daughter, Kristin(Rich), beloved Grandson Ethan, family dog and friend Molly, Sisters Marjorie (Eric), Christina(Ian), Brothers Chester(Elsie) and Keith, Brothers In Law Albert(Jo), Gary(Irene), Gus(Cora), Benson(Daphne), Roy(Joyce), Sister in Law Dorothy(Dennis) as well as a number of nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends. She was predeceased by her Father Joseph Slade, Mother Rita Slade, Brother Ronald, Sister Rose and Mother-in-law Dora. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony followed the funeral service which took place at 2:00pm on the 31st day of August 2014 with Rev. John McGonigle Officiating. SAUNDERS, OLIVE

April 16th, 1920 ~ April 24th, 2014

 

Olive was born on April 16th, 1920 as the eldest child of William and Gladys (Hancock) Allingham in Cooks Harbor. She married Fredrick Joseph Saunders of St. Lunaire on September 2, 1940. As a result of their marriage, they were blessed with the birth of four daughters and five sons. They also raised two granddaughters. Olive’s hands were always busy, making clothes for her children, making skin boots (In the early days!), knitting, hooking rugs, making quilts, and baking. Her bread and pies were the very best! She also spent many hours in the fishing stage with her husband during the 30 summers they spent at Indian Tickle on the Labrador coast. Later in life Olive married Francis Sampson of River of Ponds aknd Selby Loder of St. Lunaire-Griquet. She was loved and cherished by all and will be missed dearly. Olive passed away on April 24th, 2014 at the Charles s. Curtis memorial hospital in her 94th year. Olive Leaves To Mourn her sons; Herbert (Evangeline), Rex (Irene), Ezra (Viann), Sherwin (Patricaia), Wade (Coleen), Daughters Mary (Frank), Isabel Simms, Gladys Hedderson, Alma (Ronald), Maxine Peyton, Glenys (Havner). Sisters; Alma Stryde, Grace (Chuck) Milks, Triffena (Ernest) Rodgers, Laverne (Ralph) Colbourne, June (Ralph) Drover. Brothers Basil (Irene), Edgar (Elsie), Horace, Stedman (Marjorie), Llewellyn (Thelma). Brother in law Eric (Rita) Saunders, Sister in law Loretta Saunders, AS well as 35 Grandchildren, 70 Great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews and other relatives and close friends.  The visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in St. Lunaire- Griquet, from which the funeral service was held on Sunday April 27th with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating, burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
