COLES, WALLACE

Wallace Coles was born on March 10, 1920 in Sandy Cove to Archibald & Eliza Coles.

He was a war veteran who served in World War II for 3 years and 8 months. He showed great pride for his country. After returning from the war, he married the love of his life, Marie on her 17th birthday in Flower's Cove. They had 12 children, 4 of whom died at a very early age.

Five years ago, he lost his oldest son, Lambert, and the love of his life, Marie. With the remaining 7 children they helped to lighten the load of his burden. He was taken care of by his daughters until going to the Ivy Durley Place 1 year ago. He was quite contented and really enjoyed living at the Ivy Durley in the time that he spent there.

He was a very special war veteran in our area. Every year he celebrated Remembrance Day Service at CRMA School in Flower's Cove. He would dress in his uniform all adored with his hat, medallions and of course his poppy. He told stories to the students and staff about his journey to the war.

He also attended the Remembrance Day breakfast in his own community of Sandy Cove every year which began to honor him and other war veterans for what they did for our country.

He was a very hard working man. He spent his summers fishing and the winters working in lumber camps. He also enjoyed going to parties with family and friends. He loved to hear music, dancing and sharing stories of the past.

He lived a long and happy 94 years of his life until he peacefully passed away at Charles  S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at St. Anthony on May 5, 2014. His family and friends have been blessed to have such a wonderful man in their lives for so long. It comforts everyone to know that he is with his family in eternal life.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his 4 sons; Calvin (Edith), Coy (Vernita), Gorvin (Debbie), Clayte (Wendy); 3 daughters; Lavenia, Patsy (Levi), Darlene (Wood); daughter-in-law; Sheila; 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; sisters; Alma Diamond and Selina White; and sister-in-law; Rita Coles.
